PORTSIDE CLUB BULLETIN Secretary’s Message – July 2019 “Dream as if you will live forever; Live as if you will die today.” ― James Dean Good evening, my dear RCCPC Rotarians! Our recorded attendance last meeting, August 5, 2019, was 48% (20/42). There was 1 visiting Rotarian in the person of Dr. Denis Digamon of RC Plant City Tampa, Florida. There were 2 guests and 1 spouse, namely: 1.Mr. Malvin Palacio, 2. Mr. Walter Ong and 3. Sps.Vanessa Sulay and 2 Rotaractors, namely: Gray Hernandez and Rembert Artigo from the Rotaract Club of Cebu Port Centre- Community Based. To those who attended other clubs’ meeting as make-up or those who joined other Rotary activities - physical or online, please report it to us so that we can increase our attendance percentage. The ROTAPLAST Cebu Medical Mission 2019, our flagship project, is in the air. Last meeting of the club, Pres. Jun has appealed to the membership for their full support and cooperation especially on the fund raising. The solicitation letter was already disseminated thru email and printed copies. Last Monday was a holiday, however we had a committee meeting last Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, at 4PM at Cebu Country Club. This was attended by: 1. PDG Anton Florendo 2. PP Marcy Koike 3. PP Ed Go 4. PP Sam Tiu 5. PP Toby Florendo 6. Pres. Jun Falcon 7. Sec. Jensen Racho 8. Dir. Ludwig Amandoron 9. Dir. Nestor Toledo 10. VP Boboy Tan 11. Fe Escano 12. Star Espino (on behalf of IPP Rodien). We discussed the following: 1.Fund raising: Our Finance chairmen, PP Ed Go & PP Marcy Koike had expressed their full support in this endeavor. They reiterated that the members of the club must support this project by adopting 1 patient per Rotarian at 10 Thousand Pesos. At the middle of the meeting, PP Marcy Koike personally gave his donation amounting to 50 Thousand Pesos and Dir. Ludwig Amandoron gave the check from Worldwide steel Corp. amounting to 15 Thousand Pesos. Donors such as the Japanese sister clubs and Rotarians will be announced by Treasurer John Sulay. Our Sincere thanks and appreciation to our dear Donors. PORTSIDE CLUB BULLETIN 2.Video: It was suggested by Pres. Jun that a shorter version of video presentation of the project will be made to help promote the project. 3.Food & Souvenirs: The food and souvenirs were also discussed and suggested to review as it requires an appropriate funds for this. Our Souvenir & Tour Committee is headed by PP Sam Tiu. 4.T-Shirt: PP Sam was assigned to design & supply the T-shirt for this year’s mission. This T-shirt will be given to the club members and the volunteers. Arrival, Welcome Dinner & Appreciation Dinner: 5.The arrival of the Rotaplast Team to Cebu is on Sept. 24, 2019 at 12 Noon. Our Welcoming Committee is headed by no less than PDG Ted Locson & PP Jack Jamero. Their luggage will go straight to the Summit Hotel and the equipment and supplies will go straight to the Adventist Hospital Cebu. Our Transporation Committee is headed by PAG Tony Ynoc & VP Boboy Tan. The Welcome Dinner is scheduled on Sept. 28, 2019 (Saturday) c/o Cebu Province while Appreciation Dinner is scheduled on Oct. 4, 2019 (Friday) c/o Cebu City Government. Last Friday, August 16, 2019, we had the coordination meeting with the Adventist Hospital Cebu officials and department heads. It was discussed that the committee on physical arrangement will bring in the 60 pcs- cots (Teheras) on Sept. 23, 2019 (Monday) at the 4th floor of the Adventist Hospital. They need at least 18 Nurses for the entire mission. As of now, there are 76 pre-registered patients from Abounding in Love Foundation. A maximum of 30 patients per day for the Pre-Lab tests such as CBC, UA, Bleeding/Clotting time and Blood typing. During the Pre-Clinic, It is expected to have at least 150 patients for screening and the holding area is at the 5th floor of the Hospital. Additional guard was suggested and we need to provide table & chairs at the entrance of the Hospital. The sound system will be provided by the AHC. During the 1st operation day, it is expected to operate 15 patients and 1st admission of 20 patients before this day. AHC requested for a standby blood during the operation. It was suggested that the RCCPC will contact Philippine Red Cross for the standby blood. We requested for a housekeeper during a Saturday at the 5th floor. PORTSIDE CLUB BULLETIN President’s Message – July 2019 Today in 1851, a Bishop’s decree confirms the establishment of Carmen, Cebu, as a parish. It is separated from the jurisdiction of Catmon and placed under the patronage of San Agustin Obispo y Doctor. A pleasant evening to our RCCPC champions! First and foremost, a sincerest thanks to those who were able to make it and joined our last August 5 meeting. Your presence really contributed more meaning to our regular Rotary gathering! To those who attended other Club’s meeting as Make up or joined other Rotary activities, please report it to us so that we can increase our attendance percentage. And, to those who were not around, we again wish you well and hope you’re in good shape and health. Updates for our incoming 2019 Rotaplast Mission. ROTAPLAST COMMITTEE MEETING. Last August 14 at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, there was a Rotaplast Committee Meeting at Cebu Country Club and participated by the following individuals: 1.) yours truly, 2.) PDG Anton Florendo, 3.) PP Ed Go; 4.) PP Marcy Koike; 5.) PP Sam Tiu; 6.) PP Toby Florendo; 7.) Sec. Jensen Racho; 8.) Dir. Ludwig Amandoron; 9.) Dir. Nestor Toledo; 10.) VP Boboy Tan; 11.) Fe Escano; and 12.) Star Espino (on behalf of IPP Rodien Paca). Agenda discussed, among others, focused more on our financial preparation to the flagship project. 2019 Rotaplast Mission (17th Year) will officially start this September 24, the arrival day of our foreign volunteers & partners from Rotary Club of San Francisco, District 7930 and it will end October 5, the departure day. There is a free day for volunteers on the 28th, a Saturday, as Adventist Hospital does not have work on Saturdays. Reminders to the Officers of the Day, which schedule of visit per member is posted in our Portside. Please calendar and note your respective “call of duty.” As solicitation letters were already sent out to all members, there was a suggestion raised to the Committee that each RCCPC member have to pledge Php10K (the hospital expense cost of at least one patient for this year) and, since minimum amount per solicitation is Php5K, a member will just look for two (2) sponsors/benefactors.
