Jeff has been a member of the Board of JSSA since 2004. He is a Past President of JSSA. Jeff continues to be active in JSSA as Chairman of the Construction, Property Development, Maintenance and Security Committee. He previously served as Chairman of the Building Committee that was responsible for the development and construction of the Ina Kay Building in Fallsgrove.

Jeff is a native Washingtonian. He graduated Woodrow Wilson High School in 1965. He received his degree in Civil Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University and studied computer programming at the George Washington University. He is LEED-AP certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Jeff has been in commercial construction and development since 1969. He serves as President of Abramson Construction Corporation. The firm, which was established in 1989, provides commercial general contracting and construction management services in the Washington/Baltimore Metropolitan areas. Before opening Abramson Construction Corporation, Jeff had been a Principal of The Marcus Corporation, a Project Manager with both Charles E. Smith and Polinger/Majestic Building Corporations, and a Project Engineer with the Bechtel Corporation.

Jeff and his wife Janet have been married since 1971 and live in Potomac, Maryland. Janet is a former elementary school teacher in Montgomery County. Jeff and Janet are members of Washington Hebrew Congregation. They have two children, Laurie and Michael. Laurie is married to Stuart Kuntz and they live in Short Hills, New Jersey with their daughter Michelle and son Ari. Their son Michael is an Interventional Radiologist with Virginia Radiology Associates and lives with his wife Catherine in Arlington, Virginia.

Rhonda is currently the Clinical Nutrition Manager with Sodexo Healthcare Services at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. She is responsible for all Patient Meal Services and Nutrition Services at the hospital. Previously she was the Clinical Nutrition Manager at the Charles E Smith Life Communities for 14 years. She has worked in the field of Nutrition for over 25 years, 16 of those years with Sodexo Healthcare, headquartered in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She is past PTA Co-President and former Board Member of the Charles E Smith Jewish Day School and served on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for Congregation Har Shalom.

Originally from Boston, Rhonda has been a resident of Potomac, Maryland for over 30 years. She is a graduate of Simmons College with a BS in Nutrition. She and her husband Richard have been married since 1983. They are members of Congregation Beth El in Bethesda and are the proud parents of Emily & Keith Norof who live in Olney, Maryland and Joshua Brandes, who lives in City. She is also the proud Nana of Felix Brandon Norof.

Phyllis retired after a long career practicing derivatives law. She continues to work in the field as an external expert consulting on occasion for the International Monetary Fund. Before she retired, she was a Managing Director in PwC's Financial Services Regulatory practice advising global banking clients.

Phyllis spent most of her career in public service as Chief Counsel in the enforcement division of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. She also served as an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University Law Center in the securities law L.L.M. program, co-teaching a course on derivatives regulation.

Originally from Long Island, Phyllis is a longtime resident of McLean, Virginia. She and her husband, Gary Sidell, are members of Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church, where she previously served on the Board, and is currently a member of the management committee of the Treasures Judaica Shop and participates in a soup caravan feeding the homeless. They have two adult sons, David and Jonathan (married to Kirsten Sidell).

Rita Corwin has worked in charitable gift planning for almost 20 years. Currently, she manages the Office of Gift Planning of Children’s Hospital Foundation, which supports Children’s National Medical Center, Washington, DC.

Prior to joining Children’s Hospital Foundation in 2006, Rita established the gift planning program at Capital Hospice in Falls Church, VA, and was a Senior Associate at the United Jewish Endowment Fund of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.

Rita’s first career was in corporate finance and merchant banking. She has an MBA in Finance from the New York University Graduate School of Business Administration.

Rita is also an abstract painter. She has exhibited in group and juried shows in the Washington area and Frederick, MD. Her work is in private collections in the United States and in Europe.

Rita resides in Bethesda and has three adult children—Adam, Lesley and David Klein.

An active philanthropist/volunteer for over thirty years, Yvonne Schlafstein Distenfeld’s nonprofit involvement has been concentrated predominantly on Jewish community leadership and philanthropy. Her most extensive focus is with the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, where she served on the Board until June 2014, when she “termed out.” Currently, she serves on the Women’s Advisory Council, is a member of the planning and allocations (P&A) team, and is a long-time fundraiser/ambassador. Yvonne also is a Trustee of the United Jewish Endowment Fund, and Co-Chair of the community-wide Create a Jewish Legacy program. Over the years, Yvonne has held numerous leadership positions in Federation, including Executive Committee member; Inaugural Co-Chair of The Network; VP Women’s Philanthropy (WP); Chair/Co-Chair of all WP giving levels; Co-Chair Philanthropic Leadership; and Co-Chair of the Identity Division of P&A. Yvonne was the Co-Founder of VOICES, Co-Chair of the 2012 Annual Meeting, and in 2008, received Federation’s Campaigner of the Year award. Nationally, Yvonne is a past National Women’s Philanthropy Board member. In February 2012, she and her husband, Jeffrey, served as Co-Chairs of the Jewish Federations of North America mission to Ethiopia and , Completing the Journey.

Yvonne has been involved in numerous other nonprofit and charitable organizations. Active with , her undergraduate alma mater, Yvonne is a Past President of the Cornell University College of Human Ecology Alumni Association Board and a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council as well as a member of the Cornell University Council. She is a past Board member and current member of the Strategic Development and Create a Jewish Legacy Committees of B’nai Israel Congregation. She also is involved with AIPAC, and has been a fundraiser, events chair, speaker and/or committee member for various other local and national organizations. In June 2014, Yvonne and her husband, Jeffrey, received the 2014 Community Leadership Award of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington.

Professionally, Yvonne was Founder/President of Lawyers on Call, Inc. (1993-2011), and former Senior Vice President/General Counsel of C.R.I., Inc. (1984-1992). In addition to her undergraduate degree from Cornell University, she has a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.

Mark began his service on the Board of JSSA in 2006. He initially joined the Board to give something back to the community having moved here from South Africa 21 years ago. In his capacity as Treasurer, he has served on the Executive Committee, Audit Committee and Budget Committee.

Mark is the Regional Managing Partner for the Atlantic Region Assurance Practice of BDO USA. Over the last 18 years he has spent a significant portion of his time working with a wide variety of non-profit organizations. His current client base includes both local and international commercial and non-profit organizations. He hopes to continue to bring his experience to bear in his role as a JSSA board member.

Mark is a graduate of the University of Cape Town. He is married to Martine and has two kids. His son, Radley, turned 18 in August and his daughter, Demi, is 15.

Mike joined the board in 2012. A native Washingtonian, he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1964, and he received his B.A. from George Washington University in 1968 and his J. D. from George Washington Law School in 1972.

Mike has recently retired; he was a senior attorney for Sprint Corporation representing the company before the various government agencies. He joined one of Sprint predecessors in 1984 from the Federal Communications Commission where he was a senior attorney, managing a group of 17 attorneys. Prior to his FCC service he was a senior litigation attorney for the Civil Aeronautics Board.

Mike and his wife Lois have been married since 1974 and live in Washington DC. They have two sons, both of whom live in California. They are members of the Adas Israel Congregation.

Mike was active at Georgetown Day School when his sons were students at the school. He co-chaired the GDS annual appeal whose primary purpose was to increase the school’s financial aid budget. Mike and Lois received the Volunteer Parents of the Year award from the school in 2001.

Mike’s past and present community-related activities include working with Reading Partners to help D.C. elementary school children increase their reading skills; coaching a soccer team in the Stoddert League for 7 years (two seasons per year); coaching an indoor soccer team for 4 seasons at the Jelleff Boys and Girls Club; serving as an assistant coach for a basketball team in a Jelleff’s “house” league; and serving as an assistant coach of a baseball team in the Capital City Little League baseball team. Mike was also member of the Board of Trustees of the Jelleff Boys and Girls Club for three years.

David began his service on the Board of JSSA in 2011, and is now serving on the Executive Committee as Vice President. David follows in the footsteps of his father, Mike, who has had a long-standing relationship with JSSA, including his service as a past President. David’s wife, Laurie, served as JSSA’s first head of marketing. David also serves on the Construction and Strategic Planning Committees.

David is President and COO of BOWA, a residential construction firm specializing in large-scale additions and renovations in Suburban Maryland, the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia. At BOWA, David manages the day-to-day operations and processes of the company as well as focusing on long-term strategic initiatives. Prior to BOWA, David helped run two technology companies, and started his career as an attorney focused on business law and litigation.

David is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Georgetown Law School, and holds a Masters Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University. He is married to Laurie and has two children, Zack and Kyra.

Barry Forman is a native Washingtonian whose family roots in Washington date back to the early 1930s. Since 1999, he has active board member and supported an array of philanthropic organizations. Agencies in which he has been enthusiastically involved include: President and a Board Member of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington, President and Founding Board Member of the Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning, Board Member, Executive Committee Member and Treasurer of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, Board Member of the Montgomery County Community Foundation, Board member of B’nai Israel Congregation. Additionally, he is currently serving as a Board Member and First Vice President of Woodmont Country Club. Beyond our community, he currently serves as Treasurer of the Florence Melton Adult School (a project of the Hebrew University) and the Board of Trustees of the Perkiomen School.

JSSA has had a long and strong attraction to both Barry and his wife Carole. Carole has been a hospice volunteer as a massage therapist for over 15 years. As Barry’s parents were approaching the end of their lives, JSSA provided significant services and support for the family. Their involvement and support reflect their gratitude and understanding of what JSSA means to our community.

As a local business professional, Barry enjoyed 35 years of experience in owning and managing a family business, including 25 years as President of two distinct family-owned wholesale wine and spirit distribution companies. Following the sale of the family businesses, he continued to work as President, Mid-Atlantic States for various distribution companies.

Upon leaving the formal workplace, and wanting to help others, he created a consulting business, The Presidents Group, to provide executive coaching through peer groups and individual interaction for presidents of smaller companies.

He and his wife, Carole, reside in Potomac, Maryland and have been married for 48 years. They are the proud parents of two adult children and five grandchildren. Barry is a 1967 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.

Delegate Bill Frick is a legislator, lawyer, husband and father. A lifelong Marylander, Bill was born at Silver Spring’s Holy Cross Hospital, and raised in Kensington, where he attended Montgomery County Public Schools. Growing up in Montgomery County and being a student in MCPS during a budget crisis helped instill in Bill a sense of the importance of public service and political leadership.

Bill graduated from Northwestern University in 1997, and received the Lincoln Laureate medal that year as the school’s outstanding graduate on the basis of academics and leadership. He then enrolled at Harvard Law School, where he studied under future Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan. Upon graduating in 2000, Bill became a member of the Maryland bar and joined the international law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP. In addition to his service to Akin Gump’s private clients, Bill has been active in pro bono cases, including a historic civil rights case on behalf of the victims of the 2004 arsons in Charles County, Maryland.

Bill joined the Maryland General Assembly in 2007, and he has quickly developed a reputation as a smart, effective legislator that is responsive to his constituents. He has emphasized work on consumer protection issues, including innovative work on reforming credit card contracts and limits on marketing high-interest loans against tax refunds. For his work on consumer financial issues, the Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition designated him the General Assembly’s “most promising legislator.” Bethesda Magazine profiled Bill in 2012 as one of the county’s “Up and Comers” in business and politics.

Bill is also a devoted family man. Bill met his wife Bethany when she “purchased” him at a student charity auction. Bethany got more than she bargained for. Bill and Bethany have now been married for more than a decade, and they are doting parents of Katie and Charlie.

Bethany, a Vice President with the leading spirits producer Diageo, was named to the Washington Business Journal’s prestigious “Forty Under Forty” list of top Washington business leaders in 2011. The Fricks and “Fricklets” live in Bethesda.

Helene Glick is a former attorney turned yoga teacher. Helene received her BA from Emory University in 1987, and her JD from George Washington University in 1990. Helene worked for most of her legal career at Morgan, Lewis and Bockius as an FDA regulatory attorney, where she represented pharmaceutical and medical device companies.

After taking a hiatus from the practice of law to raise her children, Helene became involved in several Jewish organizations, including the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington and Israel Bonds. Helene also discovered a passion for the practice of yoga, and began her journey to become a certified yoga instructor. Helene currently teaches group classes as well as private clients and is thankful each and every day for the ability to share her love of the practice.

Helene’s husband, Andrew Glick, is in the commercial real estate business and a principal of Rock Creek Property Group. They have two daughters, both attending the University of Michigan.

Patti Goldman joined the JSSA Board in 2014, after retiring from the American Hospital Association, which represents nearly 5,000 hospitals, health systems, and related organizations. As a senior lobbyist at the AHA, she educated Members of Congress and their staffs about Medicare hospital payment issues, and worked with her hospital members to explain the workings of the U. S. Congress and the laws it passed.

Patti earned a B.A. in History from Boston University and an M.A. in American Studies from Boston College before beginning her career as a high school history and political science teacher in Massachusetts. She later received her J.D. from Boston University and moved with her husband to the Washington, D.C. area. Once in D.C., she worked as a Legislative Assistant to two Members of Congress, covering healthcare and other issues, before joining the AHA in 1984.

She also served on the Board of Directors of the David A. Winston Health Policy Fellowship from 2010-2013.

Patti lives in Rockville with her husband, Michael, who retired from ICF International, Inc. They belong to B'nai Israel Congregation, where Patti served for 2 years on the Board of Directors. Patti and Michael have a daughter, Rebecca, who works in Madison, WI, at Epic Systems, a health IT Software Company, and a son, Andrew, who teaches mathematics at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, upper school, in Rockville.

Dr. Michael Goldsmith specializes in diagnosis and treatment of spinal conditions.

Michael attended New York University Medical School. Following his internship and residency at Georgetown University Medical Center, he performed a Pediatric Orthopaedic Rotation at Alfred I DuPont Hospital for Children and completed a fellowship in Orthopaedic Spine Surgery at the Twin Cities Spine Center.

Michael has considerable research experience at institutions including the Twin Cities Spine Center, Georgetown University, the Hospital for Joint Disease, New York University, Children’s Hospital of and the National Institute of Health. He has published and presented numerous papers, and has contributed chapters to several medical textbooks.

Michael was born in Chicago, Illinois, and enjoys basketball, running, swimming, rugby and golf.

Scott L. Green, Ph.D. is a psychologist and consultant with extensive experience in the development, implementation, and evaluation of mental health and substance abuse prevention and treatment programs. Dr. Green also has expertise in providing consulting solutions on the planning, implementation, and evaluation of integrated behavioral and primary health care.

He currently serves as Vice President for Magellan Federal where he manages a $150 million portfolio of Federal, State, and local contracts focused on supporting the Nation’s Behavioral Health System of Care.

Dr. Green also has significant experience as a provider of mental health treatment services in a variety of settings including community mental health centers, university counseling centers, rehabilitation and brain injury units, and medical centers.

Dr. Green earned a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University, and has been an instructor of psychology, as well as a presenter at various academic and scientific conferences. He has conducted scientific investigations and published papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Dr. Green has conducted research on topics such as emotional reactions to illness and injury, social support and health, and cancer prevention. Dr. Green, his wife Diane, and their children Adam and Jordyn, live in Potomac.

Gary is the founding member of Capital CFO Services – an organization that provides outsourced, part-time chief financial officer services to small to medium sized companies in the Washington, DC area. Over the past 14 years, he has worked with numerous organizations to help get their financial house in order and to prepare for the sale of the business. Prior to starting Capital CFO, Gary worked with three business in an accounting leadership capacity that either sold or went public. He started his career at Coopers & Lybrand (now, PriceWaterhouseCoopers).

Since moving to the Washington, DC area in 1983, Gary has served in leadership roles in a variety of not-for-profit organizations including being the founding volunteer leader of the JCC adult co-ed athletic program (formerly the adult singles league) that resulted in over 30 marriages (including his own) between young Jewish adults in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. He has also served as a board member at B’nai Shalom of Olney and board member and president of the Magruder High School Instrumental Music Boosters.

Gary graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton Undergraduate business school. Gary is married to Jan Guttman, a teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools. Gary and Jan have three children.

Richard is a senior vice President with UBS, Private Wealth Management. He's a fully licensed professional who holds series 7, 63 and 65 credentials. His focus is asset allocation customization, retirement planning, as well as estate planning– related services. He remains committed to providing the highest level of service to his clients. He is also a member of the Association of Professional Investment Consultants (APIC).

Understanding clients’ needs, expectations and tolerance for risk has become the cornerstone of his approach to providing financial advice. The belief that staying in regular contact with clients and putting their needs first remains paramount to achieving long-term relationships with clients. After studying business at the University of Miami, FL. Richard began his career at Allstate Financial Corp. where his responsibilities were to manage the legitimacy of loans and address clients’ concerns.

Richard has been involved with JSSA since 2010 and has served on its board ever since. He currently a member of JSSA’s Create a Jewish Legacy program, and chair's JSSA's Development committee.

He and his wife, Tamara, have lived in Potomac, MD for 30 years, and are both actively involved in their community. Having previously served on the board of JSSA over 12 years ago, Richard was eager to once again become involved with JSSA. They have two sons, Stephen and Matt.

Originally from Brooklyn, Roberta received a BA from Hunter College in New York. She came to Montgomery County in 1973 via, Cambridge, MA, and two residences in Alexandria, VA separated by a year in Geneva, Switzerland.

Roberta spent a number of years in political management and fundraising. She managed the Montgomery County campaigns for Governor Harry Hughes both times that he was elected and was the Director of Volunteers for Walter Mondale’s primary campaign for the presidency and Director of Administration for the general election campaign. She then pursued her interest in nonprofits as Director of Development for the Treatment and Learning Centers and the National Foundation for the Improvement in Education (foundation arm of the National Education Association). She spent the last 19 years of her career in project management at the CDM Group, a federal consulting group specializing in the areas of health and substance abuse.

Roberta and her husband Sheldon have been married since 1965 and are members of Temple Emanuel, where they have both served on the Board of Directors. They thank their children, Allison (Jonathan Rosen) and Evan (Heather) for living in Montgomery County so that they can enjoy their four wonderful grandchildren.

Candace G. Kaplan, CFP, RHU, ChFC earned her BA degree at George Washington University. She is the CEO of Kaplan Financial Group, LLC, and Kaplan Benefits Group, LLC. She has served the financial and insurance needs of organizations and individuals for over 37 years.

In 1993 she was honored by the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York as “Man of the Year”, the third woman in MONY’s 150 year history to receive that prestigious award. She has been honored with company and industry awards for her leadership, sales performance and outstanding client service every year of her career.

She is a lifetime member of the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), recognized as the standard of excellence in the industry, and has also earned a place at MDRT’s Top of the Table.

Kaplan is the Past Chairman of the Dean’s Council of the Columbian College at George Washington University, and the Past Chairman of the Council of Chairs. She is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and the Financial Planning Association. She is also a member of the XPX DC Metro Succession Planning Chapter, and has served on the Advisory Board of Congressional Bank.

Sol has served JSSA since 1980 and is a Chai member of the Board. He first became involved as Chair of the Aging Services Program Committee and was instrumental in starting JSSA's hospice program in 1984. He has served on the Executive Committee as an officer and over the years, has chaired or served on numerous JSSA committees. Sol is an active, hands-on volunteer distributing JSSA holiday food baskets to seniors and immigrants from the former Soviet Union. Active in community affairs beyond JSSA, Sol was a founding member of JFGH, is a member of the Board of Governors and past officer of B'nai Israel Congregation, and for several years was JSSA’s representative to the Board of the Jewish Council on Aging.

Sol has been married to Suzy Levy, also a JSSA Board member (the only married couple on the board), for almost 43 years. In 1989 Suzy and Sol were awarded the JSSA Lehrman-Pikser Award in recognition of their dedication and exemplary volunteer service to JSSA and the Washington Community. Suzy is originally from Harrisburg, PA and received a BA in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Penn State University. She practiced as a speech pathologist for over 11 years and then became a Hebrew School teacher after the birth of her two children, teaching for more than 24 years.

She is a Chai member of the JSSA Board of Directors, having been first elected in 1981. With her background in special needs, Suzy became the first Chair of the new JSSA Outreach to People with Disabilities and Their Families Committee in 1980 serving until 1992. Under her leadership the committee developed and implemented the first community-wide survey of the accessibility of Jewish institutions and buildings in the Washington area. She headed the subcommittees which later became the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes (JFGH), JSSA’s first JVS program, and the program to serve the deaf and hard of hearing. She was a founder of JFGH and served as Executive Vice President for 2 years.

Having served on numerous other committees, including the Nominating, Board Development, By-laws Review, and Annual Gala committees, and Community Outreach, Suzy has co-chaired (with Sol) the JSSA Annual Meeting for the past 4 years. In addition, she is a JSSA Meals-on-Wheels driver for the past 28+ years and now also delivers Nourish Now food bags to Holocaust survivors.

As an active member of B’nai Israel Congregation, Suzy is the founding chair and now co-chair of their Inclusion Committee and an active volunteer on several committees as well as a member of Federation’s Synagogue Inclusion Network.

Suzy and Sol together have been active in the Jewish Federation, JSSA and B'nai Israel especially in the area of Russian Resettlement. In 1989, they were awarded the JSSA Lehrman-Pikser Award in recognition of their dedication and exemplary volunteer service to JSSA and the Washington Community. Michael L. Mael is former Executive Director of Washington National Opera. Mr. Mael served as Vice President of Applications and Web Services for PSINet, a leading global Internet Service Provider, and managed the company’s global web hosting business, turning it into an industry-leading service. Mr. Mael came to PSINet, having worked 5 ½ years at MCI Communications as one of the team leaders that created and launched MCI’s commercial Internet products. He also held positions in MCI’s finance, and marketing organizations.

Mr. Mael is a 2005 graduate of Leadership Montgomery, and served as President of the Board of Directors, having also been on the Executive and Programs Committees for a number of years. Professionally, she is the founder and Executive Director of the Alliance of Wound Care Stakeholders (“Alliance”) a non-profit interprofessional association for clinical organizations whose members treat patients with wounds. It addresses regulatory and legislative issues impacting wound care. She also serves as Executive Director for the Coalition of Wound Care Manufacturers (“Coalition”) and President of Nusgart Consulting LLC.

As Executive Director of the Alliance and the Coalition, she is viewed as a highly visible, respected and credible source of industry information for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and their contractors, Food and Drug Administration and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality as she advocates for appropriate public policy processes.

In addition, Ms. Nusgart is an industry leader in providing comprehensive strategies to medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers regarding coding, coverage and reimbursement issues under Medicare and Medicaid. Her accomplishments range from advocating successfully, in her coalition capacity, for CMS to modernize the HCPCS coding process to make it more timely, transparent and understandable for manufacturers; to, in her consulting role, obtaining new HCPCS codes along with appropriate coverage and payment for manufacturers' products.

She is highly regarded in the wound care industry through her numerous published articles and is a highly sought after speaker, appearing at various national and international conferences. Joe Rosenberg is self-employed as a forensic economist, mediator, and financial advisor. These include calculating the present value of damage awards for loss of earning capacity, loss of household services, and loss of various employee benefits, as appropriate.

Joe also is approved as a court-appointed mediator in several Maryland counties, and offers his services both as a mediator and as a finance professional to support mediators and collaborative dispute resolution teams in areas including commercial, employment, and family law. He also is a registered investment advisor.

Joe left Fannie Mae in 2008 after 20 years in which he was, among other positions, Director of Financial Data Integrity in the Capital Markets Strategy Division. Before that, he was an economist with the energy and utilities industries.

Joe’s involvement with JSSA goes back to 1997. Joan de Pontet, Ken Kozloff’s predecessor, first invited Joe to lunch after reading about his tutoring and “family-to- family” work with newly arrived immigrants from the former Soviet Union, which he performed as head of the Jewish American Resettlement Committee at Temple Emanuel in Kensington. Upon learning of his finance background, Joan asked him to join JSSA’s Investment Committee. He became chairman of this committee when he took early retirement from Fannie Mae upon the recommendation of his chairman predecessor.

Joe has an MBA in Finance, Accounting and Statistics from University of Chicago and an MA in Economics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Since 1999, he has held the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. More recently, Joe has been formally trained as a mediator and collaborative team professional, and in 2013 was awarded the Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA) designation. Joe lives in Kensington with his wife Ellen Gerecht and has two grown children.

At Roundhouse, located in Old Town Alexandria, I specialize in anxiety disorders, depression, marital counseling and Adult Attention Deficit Disorder.

In addition to my psychotherapy practice, I serve as Trustee of two Land Trusts in Northern Virginia holding shopping centers, and as one of the Managers of Springfield Mart LLC, owners of Brookfield Plaza Shopping Center in Springfield, Virginia. In these roles I oversee the operation of business and advise ownership on issues relevant to their decision-making.

I am also one of the founders, and serve as the President, of the RZ Foundation, a family foundation which represents the diverse range of philanthropical interests of three generations of my husband’s and my families. Our mission statement – to protect the must vulnerable members of our local communities and the wider nation and world, preserve the environment and promote the general welfare, could be summed up under the goal of “Tikun Olam.” Among those causes we consistently support is the development and expansion of the Virginia branch of JSSA.

My husband and I have been married 40 years. We have two wonderful children whose work reflects what they think are important: our son David, 33, is Deputy Project Manager of a consulting group to D.O.D. that sets guidelines for best practices for the treatment of returning soldiers with brain injury and PTSD, our daughter teaches writing and critical thinking at JMU, is very active in community theater and serves on the board of Cat’s Cradle. We have two lovely grandchildren, Lily and Evie, daughters of our son, David.

Jonathan A. Schnitzer is the Senior Rabbi of B’nai Israel Congregation, Rockville, Maryland. Under his leadership, B’nai Israel has dramatically expanded both its programmatic scope and physical facility and yet retained its warm and friendly style.

Rabbi Schnitzer received a B.A. degree from Columbia College and then studied at the Jewish Theological Seminary, where he received his Master’s Degree and was ordained in 1974. In 2001, the Seminary awarded him an Honorary Doctor of Divinity. Rabbi Schnitzer has been very active on the local and national Jewish scene.

He is past Chair of the Rabbinic Cabinet of the Jewish Federations of North America and a past President of the Washington Board of Rabbis. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington and has also served on the Boards of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington and the Charles E. Sandra A. Sellers (“Sandy”) began her affiliation with JSSA when she and husband David adopted their eldest son through JSSA in February 1991. Sandy and David also chaired JSSA’s Jazz fundraiser in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Sandy is President of Technology Mediation Services, LLC. She mediates and arbitrates intellectual property, domain name, software, contract and other business disputes. She also is an adjunct professor of mediation and negotiations at Georgetown University Law Center. She also previously taught mediation at George Washington University Law School.

Before starting Technology Mediation Services, Sandy was Vice President of Intellectual Property Enforcement for the Software Publishers Assn. Previously, she was a shareholder and intellectual property litigator with Willian Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, and an attorney-advisor to the chief administrative law judge at the US International Trade Commission.

Sandy received her JD from George Washington University, and BA from Dickinson College. She is an active Dickinson alumna, having previously served on the Alumni Council, and now serves on the DC Regional Council.

Sandy previously served on the board of the International Trademark Association, on the finance and audit committees. She also was President of the International Trade Commission Trial Lawyers Association, and a member of several American Bar Association ad-hoc task forces.

Sandy and David have two children, Josh and Jason, and live in McLean, VA. David is the Public Information Officer at the Administrative Office of the US Courts.

Sandy and David have been members of Temple Rodef Shalom, Falls Church, VA, since 1981.

Patricia A. Silver is the Founder and President of Silver Marketing. With more than 30 years of experience in the direct response industry, she spearheads many of Silver’s innovative, results-oriented marketing campaigns.

Highly regarded in the industry, Pat has been an active member of the Direct Marketing Association of Washington (DMAW) and has held many leadership roles, including president. She has been named “Professional of the Year” by DMAW and “Direct Marketing Woman of the Year” by the Women’s Direct Response Group of Washington. She has also served as President of the DMAW Education Foundation for more than 6 years.

Over the years, Pat has spoken on direct marketing at conferences, written articles, and taught courses to numerous local and national organizations.

Pat has won hundreds of awards from the direct marketing, interactive and marketing industries based on numerous successful campaigns. Her clients range from Fortune 500 companies and top Washington businesses to regional and local businesses.

Silver currently serves on the regional board for American Jewish Committee and is active in Jewish-related organizations.

Pat has a B.A. from Franklin and Marshall College. Pat is married to Jeff Trauberman, a Vice President for the Boeing Company. Pat and Jeff have two sons, Jacob and Joshua. Pat and Jeff are members of Congregation Beth El since 2000.

Mindy Suchinsky is serving on the JSSA Board for the first time. She is a graduate of Northwestern University, Harvard University and Cardozo School of Law of Yeshiva University.

Mindy began her career as a teacher of the deaf in New York City, where she taught Jewish deaf students both religious studies, language acquisition and secular subjects. The only Jewish day school for deaf children at the time, she was instrumental in integrating signed English into the curriculum. She also served as a principal of a school for handicapped children in Illinois.

After going to law school and starting a family, she moved to the Washington D.C. area where she became active at the Hebrew Day Institute and served on the board. Since that time she has worked as an attorney in the field of estate planning, estate and trust administration, special needs planning and elder law. She is a partner at West & Feinberg, P.C. in Bethesda, Maryland.

Mindy is a member of Beth Sholom Congregation in Potomac, Maryland and has served on the board at the shul. She has two married children, a son who works in Israel as a civil engineer and a daughter who is a registered dietitian at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City. She has two grandchildren who are sabras, Sarah and Yakov.

Robin Thomashauer is the Executive Director of CAQH since the founding of the organization 16 years ago. CAQH is a non-profit alliance of health plans collaborating to create shared initiatives to streamline the business of healthcare. Robin has more than 30 years of broad experience in healthcare strategy, managed care and hospital operations.

Prior to her current role she was a Director in the payer practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and held a range of management positions at Kaiser Permanente over a 16 year tenure. Robin began her career in hospital administration, holding positions at teaching hospitals in the Chicago area.

Over the years Robin has participated in officer roles on a number of Boards, including those at The Harbor School, The Bullis School and Adventist Healthcare, where she chaired the Strategic Planning Committee.

Robin holds a BA in Social Science from Colgate University and a Masters in Health Services Administration from the George Washington University. She is a Diplomate in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Originally from New York, Robin has lived in the Washington, DC area since the mid-1970’s. She resides in Bethesda with her husband, David. They have two adult daughters, currently living in Massachusetts and California, and are members of Congregation Beth El in Bethesda.

Jeff joined the Board of JSSA in 2014. He is a Founder and President of TopBox, an analytics and performance optimization company providing software and analytics support for large-scale call centers. He previously served as Managing Director for Xerox’s outsourced call center organization.

Jeff grew up in Potomac, Maryland where he graduated from Churchill High School. He received his BS in Accounting from Syracuse University and earned his CPA in 1991. He has served on the Finance Committee of the Hebrew Home since 1994 and is a member of the Trustees Committee.

Upon graduating from Syracuse, Jeff worked for Reznick Fedder & Silverman for five years servicing both commercial and non-profit clients. Later he served as Controller and Director of Finance for a publicly traded Internet payments company and a business-to-business SaaS service provider.

He joined CyberRep, a McLean based call center outsourcer, in 2001 and after assisting in the sale of that business to ACS (now Xerox) he moved into operations management. In his role with Xerox Jeff’s clients included global brand-name consumer products and technology organizations, as well as cable and telecommunications companies. He managed over 4,000 employees providing technical support, sales and customer service from locations in the US, Europe, Central and South America, the Caribbean, the Philippines and Malaysia.

Jeff and his wife Meredith live in Potomac, Maryland. Meredith is an executive recruiter who focuses on placing and sourcing CFOs and all the personnel that report to a CFO. Their children, Michael and Becka, attend Churchill High School and Hoover Middle School. In his spare time Jeff enjoys mountain biking and photography.
