Williams was born on 2 October 1875 in Mishawaka, Indiana, and married George Boyce Jr. in 1892. They lived northwest of Buchanan on a farm in Glendora and had at least six children. After George died in 1925, Ada and several of her younger children moved to Buchanan. For a time she rented and operated a boarding house on Main Street, but in 1932 she obtained a state license and opened a maternity home at 105 South Portage Street (now Red Bud Trail). The home was a place where local doctors could deliver babies in a clean and properly outfitted room with the assistance of a practical nurse. New mothers and their babies typically spent between three and ten days under Mrs. Boyce's care before returning to their own home. Between 1932 and 1949, 481 children were born in the Boyce Maternity Home.
