COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech guard Anthony Fisher scored the last of his team-high 20 points on a driving layup with 2.9 seconds remaining, leading the Golden Eagles (3-2) to an 86-84 non-conference men’s basketball victory against Bradley (5-2) Wednesday night at the Eblen Center. Tennessee Tech led by as many as 13 points, 19-6, early in the first half and the Golden Eagles led 41-32 at halftime as the Braves shot only 35.3 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes. Bradley, which trailed at the break for the first time this season, stormed back midway through the second half, turning a 55-47 deficit into a 70-61 lead with 7:41 left. The Braves shot a blistering 65.5 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes, but could not get enough defensive stops down the stretch to hold off their hosts. Tennessee Tech shot 61.5 percent after the break and reclaimed the lead on back-to-back baskets by Belton Rivers, the first a transition 3-pointer then a breakaway layup for an 80-78 lead with 2:49 left. Two Rivers free throws with 1:12 left gave TTU an 84-82 lead and the Braves missed on a chance to pull even when center Zach Andrews missed two free throws with 57 seconds left. Guard Danny Adams gave the Braves a second chance for the tie by drawing a charge with 33.5 seconds remaining and Jeremy Crouch took advantage of the second opportunity by scoring on a tough floater with 23 seconds to go. With the game tied at 84-84, Tennessee Tech ran the clock down before Fisher drove through the right side of the lane for his game-winning bucket. Andrews finished with a game-high 22 points and added a game-high 14 rebounds for his third double-double of the year and fifth of his two-year Bradley career. Crouch and point guard Daniel Ruffin both added 13 points for the Braves, while guard Will Franklin scored 10. Rivers backed up Fisher’s effort with 19 points for the Golden Eagles. Amadi McKenzie added 16 and Rashaud Nixon chipped in with 11. Wednesday’s game was Bradley’s first true road game in its last 14 outings, dating back to a 71-49 victory at #25 Northern Iowa Feb. 22, 2006. The game against the Golden Eagles was the return game for last year’s matchup in Peoria created by participating in the 100-team pool for the BracketBusters series.
