PRESEASON POLL REESIE’S PIECES: Junior forward Charissa Greene scored a career-high 16 points and hauled in six Team 2000-01 Overall/League Points rebounds in 24 minutes of action to pace UIC to a 71-53 victory over IUPU-Fort 1. The Flames cleaned up after themselves as they hauled in a season- Jessica Wilhite (UW-Milwaukee) high 24 offensive rebounds. LeKesha Williams (9), Zsuzsa Tarnai (9), Charissa Greene (7) and Chastity Quinn (5) each garnered career-highs in rebounds during the Preseason First Team All-Horizon League contest. Michelle James, Detroit, G, 5-5, Sr. Amanda Leonhard, UW-Green Bay, G, 5-8, Sr. SUMMER VACATION: Mandy Stowe, UW-Green Bay, F, 6-1, Sr. Senior Stesha Rhodes spent her summer as a part of a collegiate all-star team that Maria Viall, UW-Milwaukee, C, 6-3, So. toured Italy over the summer. Her teammates, juniors Jody-Ann Gilzene and Jaysie Jessica Wilhite, UW-Milwaukee, G, 5-8, Jr. Chambers each played for Athletes in Action and toured Spain and the Czech Republic. Preseason Second Team All-Horizon League Kim Brockway, Cleveland State, C, 6-4, Sr. FROM WAY DOWNTOWN: Jaysie Chambers, UIC, C/F, 6-2, Jr. UIC currently is second in the Horizon League in shooting from beyond three- Randee Henry, Detroit, C/F, 6-1, So. point range as the Flames are coming in at a clip of 34.5 percent. Junior center Tracy Hoffman, Loyola, G, 5-7, Jr. Zsuzsa Tarnai leads the way for UIC as she is shooting 44 percent from beyond Lauren Sirus, Loyola, C, 6-1, Sr. three-point range and is leading the Flames in scoring with 11.1 points a contest. STOP THIEF!: Junior guard LeKesha Williams currently leads the Flames in steals and is fourth in the Horizon League with 2.4 swipes per contest. As a team, UIC leads the Horizon League in steals with 12.3 a game. BLAZING START: UIC’s current record of 7-3 marks the Flames’ best start since the 1979-80 season. That edition of the Flames, opened the season with a mark of 12-3. CONFERENCE CALL: UIC will resume Horizon League play on January 3rd as they will square off with defending regular season champion UW-Green Bay at 7:00 PM.
