Amelia Island Concours D'elegance Announcing Alfa Romeo for 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Valerie Brown, Dir., Media 904-636-0027 [email protected] ALFA ROMEO TO BE FEATURED MARQUE AT THE 2005 AMELIA ISLAND CONCOURS d'ELEGANCE Spring Show Will Also Celebrate The 50th Anniversary Of Chevrolet's Small Block V-8 JACKSONVILLE, FL; August 11, 2004 -- The 10th annual Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance will feature two distinctly different pieces of automotive history - the spectacular cars of famed Italian maker Alfa Romeo and the Chevrolet small block V-8 engine. The show will be held March 11-13, 2005, at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island. From the late 1930s through the 1970s, Alfa Romeo produced some of motoring's most exciting street and competition cars and their racing heritage, in particular, was unrivaled at famous circuits like LeMans, the Mille Miglia, Targa Florio, and Sebring. Many of the great drivers of their respective eras piloted the Milan, Italy-built cars, including the legendary Tazio Nuvolari, five-time F1 champion Juan Manuel Fangio, Mario Andretti, and American Peter Revson. "We are extremely excited at the expanse of Alfas that will be displayed at the 2005 show," says Bill Warner, concours founder and chairman. "For example, the Indianapolis Speedway Museum will be bringing one of only two Tipo or Type C 308 grand prix cars that raced at 'The Brickyard' from 1938 to 1947. This example is powered by a three-liter, supercharged power plant and was driven by Louis Durant to a sixth-place finish in the 1947 race." The C 308 had unprecedented longevity for the period and consistently finished in the top ten of the Indianapolis 500. The Small Block Turns 50 Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the introduction of Chevrolet's small block V-8 engine, a power plant recognized today as a true milestone in engine development. Known primarily for its simplicity and versatility, the small block V-8 was light, featured stamped steel rocker arms - a first in the industry, and was a high revving engine that produced impressive horsepower. Over the years, it was also adapted for use in boats and airplanes. -more- News Release - Pg. 2 Alfa Feature Marque "The small block V-8 broke new ground a half century ago and still holds a special place in the history books and among owners," says Warner. "We are really paying homage here to both ends of the automotive spectrum with next year's show and that's what separates the Amelia Island Concours from others." The Amelia Island Concours will hold a seminar with an expert panel devoted entirely to discussing the history, design, and development of the engine. Since 1996, the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance Foundation, Inc. has annually donated a portion of the event's proceeds to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, Inc., which provides assistance to terminally ill individuals and their families regardless of their ability to pay. Nearly $1.3 million has been donated since the show began. The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is one of the nation's most innovative vintage auto shows featuring over 250 rare classics from seldom-seen private collections nationwide. The show is scheduled for March 11-13, 2005, on the grounds of The Ritz-Carlton. For more information, visit www.ameliaconcours.org or call 904-636-0027. #### .

FAST FACT The highest recorded temperature in the U.S. was 134° F (56.7° C) in Death Valley, Calif., on July 10, 1913. The highest recorded track temperature during an Indy car race was 137° F (58.3° C) on July 7, 2013 at Pocono Raceway. Graham Rahal raises his fist in celebration after taking the checkered flag at his home track of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, putting him within nine points of championship frontrunner Juan Pablo Montoya. John Cote/IMS Photo WHAT TO WATCH FOR THIS WEEKEND: MONTOYA LOOKS TO TIGHTEN GRASP ON LEAD: With wins at St. Petersburg and the Indianapolis 500, Juan Pablo Montoya remains atop the Verizon IndyCar Series point standings. The Colombian, who has won four of his previous 10 500-mile races, leads Graham Rahal by nine points and Scott Dixon, Helio Castroneves and Will Power are within striking distance. Can Montoya repeat at Pocono and strengthen his hold on the series championship lead? ANDRETTI SEEKS BREAKTHROUGH WIN AT HOME TRACK: Marco Andretti will compete in a virtual hometown race at Pocono. Andretti can lean on family ties for some advice as Pocono is one of two tracks where all three generations of racing’s most famous family have had success. Andretti’s grandfather, open- wheel great Mario Andretti, won the 1986 race, while his father Michael won pole for the race in 1986. Marco claimed the pole for the race in 2013. KARAM RACES AT HOME: Like the Andretti family, Sage Karam hails from nearby Nazareth, Pa., and will be racing in front of friends and family.

Happy 75th birthday to legendary driver Mario Andretti! BRUCE MARTIN / FOX SPORTS FOXSPORTS.COM FEB 28, 2015 4:53p ET Jonathan Ferrey / Getty Images Mario Andretti has dominated in nearly every form of racing, making him one of the most iconic drivers of all time. As Mario Andretti celebrates his 75th birthday on Feb. 28, one of the most magical names in international racing history chooses not to pause and reflect on his extraordinary accomplishments or his remarkable life. He doesn't think back to the long days when he grew up in a displaced persons camp in what is now Croatia from the darkest days Europe ever experienced during World War II. That is when Andretti's native Italy was under siege as a member of the Axis powers during the war. During the Istrian exodus of 1948, Andretti's family was confined to an internment camp in Lucca, Italy, along with other families trying to flee communism in post-World War II Europe. But there is one day that Andretti will remember on this milestone birthday, and it came on June 16, 1955. The ocean liner carrying Luigi and Rina Andretti's family cruised into New York Harbor, and the 15-year-old Mario saw the Statue of Liberty gleaming like a beacon of hope at dawn of a glorious summer day. "That was one memorable morning," Andretti told FOXSports.com from his home in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. "It was June 16, 1955, at 5 a.m. We were sailing past the Statue of Liberty on a beautiful, radiant morning, and we were celebrating my sister Ana Maria's 21st birthday.

IMS Museum honoring Andretti's legendary career with exhibit March 6, 2019 – The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum will honor 1969 Indianapolis 500 winner Mario Andretti and his illustrious racing career with the exhibit, “Mario Andretti: ICON,” presented by Shell V-Power NiTRO+, opening to the public Wednesday, May 1. The exhibit is part of a comprehensive 50th anniversary celebration of Andretti’s victory at the Indianapolis 500. Andretti led 116 laps and delivered a popular, long-awaited victory for colorful car owner Andy Andretti with 1969 Indy 500 Granatelli, despite having to race in a backup car, battling race-long winning Brawner Hawk engine overheating issues and being forced to run all 500 miles on the same right-rear Firestone tire. “Mario Andretti: ICON,” presented by Shell V-Power NiTRO+, will bring together many of the most significant cars in Andretti’s career at the IMS Museum – cars which also represent significant milestones in motorsports history given Andretti’s accomplishments. The featured exhibits of “Mario Andretti: ICON,” are a full representation of the Nazareth, Pennsylvania, resident’s diverse career. A sampling of this can’t-miss exhibit includes: • The John Player Special Lotus Type 79-4, from the 1978 Formula One World Championship run • The 1974 Vel’s Parnelli Jones team Formula One car • 1967 Dean Van Lines Brawner Hawk II Indy 500 pole-winner • 1967 Watson Leader Card Sprint car • The 1967 Daytona 500-winning car • A 1994 Lola T9400 from his “Arrivederci Mario” farewell season • The Horn Offenhauser Sprint car, named “Baby,” from Andretti’s first Sprint car race.

ACES WILD ACES WILD The Story of the British Grand Prix THE STORY OF THE Peter Miller Motor racing is one of the most 10. 3. BRITISH GRAND PRIX exacting and dangerous sports in the world today. And Grand Prix racing for Formula 1 single-seater cars is the RIX GREATS toughest of them all. The ultimate ambition of every racing driver since 1950, when the com petition was first introduced, has been to be crowned as 'World Cham pion'. In this, his fourth book, author Peter Miller looks into the back ground of just one of the annual qualifying rounds-the British Grand Prix-which go to make up the elusive title. Although by no means the oldest motor race on the English sporting calendar, the British Grand Prix has become recognised as an epic and invariably dramatic event, since its inception at Silverstone, Northants, on October 2nd, 1948. Since gaining World Championship status in May, 1950 — it was in fact the very first event in the Drivers' Championships of the W orld-this race has captured the interest not only of racing enthusiasts, LOONS but also of the man in the street. It has been said that the supreme test of the courage, skill and virtuosity of a Grand Prix driver is to w in the Monaco Grand Prix through the narrow streets of Monte Carlo and the German Grand Prix at the notorious Nürburgring. Both of these gruelling circuits cer tainly stretch a driver's reflexes to the limit and the winner of these classic events is assured of his rightful place in racing history.
