Arrows on target in FIA Historic F1 Briton Rowland Kinch takes victory in 1982 Arrows A4-2 Rowland Kinch secured an impressive victory in his Arrows A4-2 in the third round of the FIA Historic Formula One Championship. Having started from third, Kinch had dropped to fifth before an incident between the March 761/6s of Katsu Kubota and Peter Meyrick promoted him two places. Kinch then passed the fast-starting McLaren M26/5 of Bobby Verdon-Roe to take second, before hunting down the lead Brbaham BT49C-10 of Joaquin Folch. With Kinch in a comfortable lead, the race was red flagged two laps from the end after an incident involving Peter Dunn's March 761/4 on the outside of Westfield Bend. "It was great fun, and I have to say thank you to the team for giving me a great car," Kinch remarked. "It all came together in the race, and once I found where I was faster than the others and just kept my head. Now I'm just looking forward to the next race - hopefully I can win there as well!" Folch had been unable to keep pace with Kinch's Arrows, but looked certain to secure second until transmission problems befell his Bernie Ecclestone-prepared Brabham with six laps remaining. Instead the runner-up spot was inherited by Verdon-Roe, the only other driver to come near the pace of the front two. "I got a great start," he said, "and perhaps I could have even snatched the lead - although that would have been greedy! I saw I was clear of Peter Meyrick and cut to the inside of Katsu Kubota - luckily my judgement was spot on. It was very good fun, and I'm happy to take second." Behind him Peter Wuensch took third, although the German was under increasing pressure from Peter Dunn's March before the latter's accident at Westfield. "I had good luck beacuse other drivers in the race were unlucky," Wuensch admitted. "It's the third time I have raced at Brands Hatch and I really enjoy it - today has been another happy day!" or canadian racing fans gathered at mosport (canadian tire motor- leneuve to cheer on, though he finished the friday qualifying session with fsport Park) on october 9, 1977, there was to be drama aplenty. num- a crash at moss corner. there was also the wolf wr1 designed by the ber one, and the big focus for fans and i was the debut of gilles Villeneuve great Harvey Postlethwaite, owned by canadian walter wolf and sporting in a formula 1 ferrari. a canadian, driving for ferrari! what could be bet- a canadian flag on the nose. with Jody scheckter driving, the car had ter? with flimsy credentials i had scammed a photo pass, so i could go won its very first time out in argentina and then again at monaco. pretty much anywhere i liked. could it win again in canada? crouching behind a two-foot-high piece of armco i took my photos of the cars formed up on the damp grid with minutes to go before the Villeneuve for posterity. well, ok, mainly for myself. finding the photos start. armed with my magic photo pass i walked between the front rows, recently brought back some of the memories of the race, which had clicking off a few shots of mario andretti. i was nervous. sure that some- much more than its fair share of drama. Villeneuve, to the huge delight one was going to say “where did you get that photo pass? En realidad, la había concluido en la decimocuarta posición, último de los que la aca- baron rodando en pista, y a cuatro giros del ganador, el Williams- Honda de Nigel Mansell. Pero, después de doce intentos, frustra- dos casi siempre por averías de aquel propulsor que de moderno sólo tenía el nombre, llegar a la meta era toda una victoria para el piloto valenciano, que se convertía de ese modo en el primer español en terminar una carrera del Mundial de Fórmula 1 en una década. Campos se unía así a una muy corta lista que habían iniciado Paco Godia y Alfonso de Portago en los años cincuenta y en la que su predecesor era Emilio de Villota. El madrileño lo había logrado diez años antes, cuando para aspirar siquiera a cruzar bajo la bande- ra a cuadros había que conseguir primero el derecho a tomar parte en la carrera.
