BDAA Fishery - Directions to Woodfields Lake – near Preston Bissett Woodfields is a member only venue. A combination code, which is printed in the permit, is required to gain access the fishery. The gate is normally left open during coaching events to allow access. Nearest Post Code is MK18 4JS & Map Ref SP 65399 30699. From Buckingham take the Tingewick bypass (A421 - duel cariageway). Take first exit signposted towards Barton Hartshorn & Chetwode – continue on this road for ¾ mile and take the next left turn signposted towards Preston Bissett (1 mile). After approx ½ mile, just after a red post box on the right and gated entrance to Foxhill , the lake entrance is on the left (the second gate). From Bicester – head towards Buckingham on the A4421- after driving through Newton Purcell take the next right turn signposted Barton Hartshorn (¾ mile) and Preston Bissett (3 mile) single track road. After 1 ¼ miles at the junction turn left - signposted Tingewick (1 mile) and Preston Bissett (1 mile). Continue on this road for approx ¼ mile and take the next right turn signposted towards Preston Bissett (1 mile). After approx ½ mile, just after a red post box on the right and gated entrance to Foxhill , the lake entrance is on the left (the second gate). From Tingewick take road to Gawcott. At junction turn right signposted towards Preston Bissett(1 mile). After approximately one mile turn right signposted towards Barton Hartshorn ( 1 mile) . After approx 1/3 mile access to the lake is on right-hand side through two sets of gate. Please do not obstruct outer gate or access track between gates. .

Types Geology Mostly mudstone, with a band of sandstone and limestone around Tingewick Topography An undulating landscape with a low ridge running east west through Tingewick and Lonborough Woods. Biodiversity Lowland Meadows – Tingewick Meadows SSSI. There are 2 LWSs in the south of the area – Field A Cowley Farm and 2 Meadows West of Chetwode/Barton Hill Woodland – There are 5 LWS Woodlands accumulated around Barton Hartshorn Hedgerows – The areas around Barton Hartshorn and west of Gawcott Tingewick Meadows and Woodlands Local Biodiversity Opportunity Area Statement June 2010 contain concentrations of pre-18th century enclosures and so may contain species rich hedgerows Ponds – There are several ponds in the area Access Woodland Trust own Round Wood LWS. There is a good network of rights of way. Archaeology There is ridge and furrow in the lower lying areas to the north and south of the ridge around Tingewick, Gawcott, Barton Hartshorn, Preston Bissett and Hilsden.

Aylesbury Vale North Locality Profile Prevention Matters Priorities The Community Links Officer (CLO) has identified a number of key Prevention Matters priorities for the locality that will form the focus of the work over the next few months. These priorities also help to determine the sort of services and projects where Prevention Matters grants can be targeted. The priorities have been identified using the data provided by the Community Practice Workers (CPW) in terms of successful referrals and unmet demand (gaps where there are no appropriate services available), consultation with district council officers, town and parish councils, other statutory and voluntary sector organisations and also through the in depth knowledge of the cohort and the locality that the CLO has gained. The CLO has also worked with the other CLOs across the county to identify some key countywide priorities which affect all localities. It is a very rural locality in the north of Buckinghamshire. There are officially 63 civil parishes covering the area (approximately a third of the parishes in Bucks). There are 2 small market towns, Buckingham and Winslow, and approximately 70 villages or hamlets (as some of the parishes cover more than one village). Population The total population of the Aylesbury Vale North locality (AV North) is 49,974 based on the populations of the 63 civil parishes from the 2011 Census statistics.

Late Medieval Buckinghamshire
SOLENT THAMES HISTORIC ENVIRONMENT RESEARCH FRAMEWORK RESOURCE ASSESSMENT MEDIEVAL BUCKINGHAMSHIRE (AD 1066 - 1540) Kim Taylor-Moore with contributions by Chris Dyer July 2007 1. Inheritance Domesday Book shows that by 1086 the social and economic frameworks that underlay much of medieval England were already largely in place. The great Anglo Saxon estates had fragmented into the more compact units of the manorial system and smaller parishes had probably formed out of the large parochia of the minster churches. The Norman Conquest had resulted in the almost complete replacement of the Anglo Saxon aristocracy with one of Norman origin but the social structure remained that of an aristocratic elite supported by the labours of the peasantry. Open-field farming, and probably the nucleated villages usually associated with it, had become the norm over large parts of the country, including much of the northern part of Buckinghamshire, the most heavily populated part of the county. The Chilterns and the south of the county remained for the most part areas of dispersed settlement. The county of Buckinghamshire seems to have been an entirely artificial creation with its borders reflecting no known earlier tribal or political boundaries. It had come into existence by the beginning of the eleventh century when it was defined as the area providing support to the burh at Buckingham, one of a chain of such burhs built to defend Wessex from Viking attack (Blair 1994, 102-5). Buckingham lay in the far north of the newly created county and the disadvantages associated with this position quickly became apparent as its strategic importance declined.
