ENTRIES: Volvo Open Cup is being held as an individual and team competition. All clubs, members of National Figure Skating Federations associated with the ISU, are invited to take part in this competition. Each club can take part in team competition by nominating teams. Team should consist maximum of 5 skaters (may be more than one team). See Appendix 3, 4. Entries must contain competitor’s full name, date of birth. The number of competitors is not limited. Entries can be sent by e-mail on the address given below by 01 February 2010. The deadline for entries is 01 February 2010. Each club must confirm their final entry list on accreditation (mandatory). E-mail: [email protected] RESPONSABILITY: In accordance to ISU Constitution, rule 119, all participants act at their own responsibility. PROTESTS: Each team has the right to submit protest against the judges’ decision. Protests must be submitted to the Referee of the relevant event at the latest immediately after the event. Upon the submission of the protest a protest fee of 30 EUR must be paid. The referee’s decision is final. In the new ISU Judging Systems no protests can be filed against the judges (see Rule 123), but against the right determination of the executed element or any calculation error. Inte ISU Judging System protest can be summited in 24 hours after subsegmen (e.g. Short Program) and before the awarding ceremony after the final segment (e.g. Free Skating). Protest must be done in a writted form to the referee of the relevant segment. Please read ISU Rule 123. MUSIC: Music will be reproduced from CD player. CDs must be labeled with names of competitors, club and category which they participate. CDs must be delivered immediately after the team’s arrival to the organizer, but not later than one (1) hour before the start of relevant segment. Music must be leaved on the accreditation. AWARDS: The first three best placed competitors in each event will be awarded by cups, special presents and diplomas; others by diplomas and presents. The first three teams (nominated by clubs) will be awarded by cup and a diploma. 2 of 5 Volvo Open Cup 10th 2010 Announcement. CHARGES: 6.0 Judging System (All B Class) – 40 EUR per participant. ISU Judging System (Chicks – Debs A Class) – 50 EUR per participant. ISU Judging System (Novice & Junior) – 60 EUR per participant. Ice Dance – 70 EUR per couple. Synchro. teams – 100 EUR per team. ENTRY FEE PAYMENT: A bill will be sent with the confirmation e-mail. Bill must be payed with one (1) transaction for all club participants. Organizer may return 50% of entry fee if club`s skater is cancelled (because of medical reasones, with a doctor`s certificate) in period from entries deadline to 24 hours before the drawing. After the drawing the entry fee won`t be returned, but the participant’s prize will be awarded to the canceled participant or him/her team. ENTRiES MODIFICATION: Each participating club may change their participant`s category latest on accreditation. All changes submitted after the accreditation won`t be accepted. JUDGES: Each participating Club may nominate one, at least international level judge. In case of too many judge entries, the organizer will draw the panels of judges after the deadline. Final judge’s panels will be published. JUDGING SYSTEM: ISU Judging System will be used for participant in A Class. 6.0 Judging System will be used for participants in B and Hoby Classes 6.0 Judging System will be used for Ice Dance and Syncro participants. PLANNED PROGRAM CONTENTS: All athletes who participate in A Class categories (ISU Judging system) must send their planned program contents by the 01 February 2010.     Andrée Grau: Figure Skating and the Anthropology of Dance: The Case of Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin Figure Skating and the Anthropology of Dance: The Case of Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin Andrée Grau Roehampton University, [email protected] Abstract In this paper, I address a number of topics relevant to anthropology generally and to the anthropology of dance specifically. I consider issues of classification and taxonomies; of interculturalism and transnationalism; of representation, exoticisation and internalised racism. I examine dance, hierarchies and discrimination, and discuss boundaries between dance and non-dance. For example, dance scholars, with a few exceptions, rarely write about figure skating, although it is cognate to Western theatre dance genres, especially ballet. Figure skating is sport, even in its ice dancing incarnation, whilst dance is art even in its ballet competition incarnations. I use as a case study the Russian skaters Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin, who choreographed an ‘Australian Aboriginal Dance’ for their original routine for the 2010 European skating championships and Olympics. This offended Aboriginal elders who made a complaint to the Russian ambassador. I examine the controversy around the routine, how it was reported in the press and how the audience responded in Internet forums, focusing especially on the way Australian Aborigines con- tinue to be portrayed as stone age in popular media.     ISU Lifetime Achievement Award recipients revealed Living legends Jayne Torvill/Christopher Dean (GBR), Tamara Moskvina (RUS) and Alexei Mishin (RUS) received the ISU Lifetime Achievement Award. Presented by Olympic Ice Dance Champion Charlie White and Olympic Ice Dance silver medalist Tanith White, the digital show on Saturday, July 10, united Figure Skating of the present, past and future. British Ice Dancers Torvill and Dean revolutionized the sport with their immortal “Bolero” that won them Olympic gold in 1984. But there is so much more to them than the “Bolero”. Torvill and Dean brought Ice Dance to another level. Their passionate Rhumba Original Set Pattern Dance from 1994 has been developed into a Compulsory Dance, for example. They continued to create unique programs in shows and tours and as choreographers. “From our point of view it has been a life giving exercise. We didn’t know that we would still be involved/a part of [Figure Skating], this far into our lives and that was over 30 years ago, and we’re still doing it, maybe we shouldn’t be doing it but we are doing it and still enjoying it as well.” Tamara Moskvina and Alexei Mishin were successful Pair Skaters end of the 1960s, winning medals at the ISU World and European Championships. While they were technically ahead of their time as skaters, they created their true legend as coaches. They have been coaching for more than 50 years and educated generations of Figure Skaters. Moskvina’s Pairs have won a total of 63 medals at Olympic Games, ISU World and European Championships, which makes her the most successful Pair Skating coach in the World.

    INTERNATIONAL SKATING UNION Communication No. 1497 INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL ON THE NEW COMPULSORY DANCE FINNSTEP The Ice Dance Technical Committee (IDTC) is pleased to announce that all instructional material for the new compulsory dance, the Finnstep has been completed. Included in this package are: an instructional DVD, a CD, the Description, the Chart of steps, and the Diagrams for Lady and Man. All these documents of the Finnstep are included to assist skaters, coaches and judges prepare for the implementation of this dance. This DVD was produced by the International Skating Union and was recorded at Oberstdorf (Germany) in 2007 with commentary in English by the originators Susanna Rahkamo and Petri Kokko. It includes a demonstration of the Finnstep by Kati Winkler and Rene Lohse showing the whole dance, as well as sections of the dance seen from both sides of the rink and slow motion examples. The demonstrations of all steps, turns and dance positions should prove to be a useful visual aid for coaches, skaters and officials. A CD with three pieces of music for the Quickstep (recorded from the Official ISU record for Compulsory Dances created by Max Greger) has been adapted and modified to fit the tempo and the character of the Finnstep. The Ice Dance Technical Committee plans to introduce the Finnstep for the first time at the Senior events in the season 2008/2009 after it has been formally approved by the ISU Congress 2008 in Monaco. RULES/JUDGING SYSTEM: Skate Wilmington 2018 will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of U.S. Figure Skating, as set forth in the current rulebook, as well as any pertinent updates which have been posted on the U.S. Figure Skating website. In Singles, the International Judging System (IJS) will be used for Short Program and Free Skating for Juvenile, Intermediate, Novice, Junior, Senior, Adult Silver, Adult Gold and Masters levels. In Partnered Dance, the IJS System will be used for Juvenile through Senior Pattern Dance, Short Dance, and Free Dance. Solo Dance will be modified IJS. The 6.0 majority judging system will be used for all other events. All skaters in events to be judged using IJS are required to submit a planned program content form online (see instructions below).
