www.chemtool.com | 15 RUST PROOF COMPOUNDS L AND H TRANSIT / HEAVY DUTY RUST PREVENTIVES

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION APPLICATION Rust Proof Compounds are soft film rust preventives designed for relatively long-term protection of both iron and steel. Rust proof compounds are formulated from high melting point petrolatum and a special rust inhibitor system with penetrating and water displacing capabilities.

FEATURED BENEFITS • Excellent long-term rust protection—Petrolatum and special additive sys- tem form a nonhardening, self-sealing film to protect surfaces against the elements. Good water displacing capabilities ensure that the protective film is also waterproof. The special rust inhibitor system ensures maximum protection against corrosive attack. Good penetrating characteristics ensure difficult-to-reach seams and crevices receive effective corrosion protection. FOR USE IN/ON: • Minimum surface preparation required—The ability to penetrate existing flaky Iron and steel exposed to or heavy rust means that little or no preliminary cleaning of metal surfaces atmospheric conditions before, is required before application. This penetrating ability makes existing rust during, and after manufacturing easier to remove should it be considered desirable to do so for a better or into finished parts more economical job. Undercoating of vehicles • Minimal cost—Self-sealing properties of the protective film minimize the need for touch-ups when film damage occurs through scratches or brush Wire rope lubricants/rust marks. The overall cost of this soft film rust protection is much less than preventatives ordinary paint. Transformer casings • Easy removal—Soft protective film is readily soluble in petroleum solvent, Bridges and floating bridge mineral spirits, or kerosene to enable easy removal when required. pontoons

www.chemtool.com | 33 VCI F OIL VAPOR PHASE CORROSION INHIBITOR

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION APPLICATION VCI-F Oil is a vapor phase corrosion inhibitor and flushing fluid, which should be used to protect internal tanks from corrosion, flush tanks to disperse debris and offer protection for the external surfaces of parts. It contains less than 15 ppm sulfur and is compatible with fuel, lubricating and hydraulic oils. VCI-F Oil con- tains a special low pour point synthetic ester contact inhibitor blend, which will not varnish, harden or react with cleaner residues left in systems. The volatile corrosion inhibitor blend will protect the head space in “closed systems” such as: engines, transmissions, hydraulic tanks and cylinders, gear housings, fuel tanks and steel drums. The duration of the vapor phase protection provided depends on how well the tank is sealed. Protection for several years can be achieved if the tank is hermetically sealed or bagged with LDPE (>0.125mm thick) plastic and sealed. For incompletely sealed systems periodic endoscope COMPATIBLE METALS inspection and possible re-application may be required. Cast Iron Carbon Steel Tool Steel FEATURED BENEFITS Stainless Steel • VCI-F Oil is often used to protect sheet metal stampings, spare parts, etc. Aluminum if sealed in >0.125mm LDPE bags. Bronze • VCI-F Oil is distinguishable from conventional preservative oils as it Copper gives both vapor phase and contact corrosion protection. Brass Magnesium • VCI-F Oil is particularly effective in fuel tanks, hydraulic tanks and ferrous Zinc components while in transit or in temporary storage. VCI-F Oil is designed to lift, displace and encapsulate adsorbed water and washer residue from TYPICAL USES the surface to protect the tank from corrosion and staining. DIRECTIONS FOR USE Adequate protection is achieved at 0.2 to 0.8% volume of VCI-F liquid/volume of internal tank space. The tank should be as dry as possible before the addition of VCI-F Oil. To ensure optimal protection, it is preferred that the oil is fogged into the tank using a 360° pole gun atomizer or wand. After application, if possible, the tank should be rotated 360° from both axes for maximum wetting with at least 10 microns of oil film thickness per square centimeter. This is especially critical in the top portion of the inside of the tank since the top portion of the tank is the most critical area. Be aware of baffles within the tank which may inhibit ade- quate coverage. Using an endoscope to confirm that coverage of VCI-F Oil in the tank is adequate is a way to minimize potential corrosion issues. After coverage, the fuel can be added. TOXICITY VCI-F Oil is composed of highly refined petroleum distillate and a non-toxic synthetic ester blend. The product contains a relatively small amount of a volatile substance which may be irritating to eyes, skin and mucous membranes. Prolonged exposure to the vapors should be avoided. Consult the SDS for more details. STABILITY VCI-F Oil is unaffected by ambient temperatures and remains stable (and effective) indefinitely as long as kept indoors in a vapor-tight container. The material should always be placed in a closed container to minimize escape of the Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor. EFFECT ON NON-METALLIC MATERIALS VCI-F Oil has little to no effect on rubber, painted surfaces, or plastics. Should a question arise, however, because of the wide variance in the composition of these materials, immerse the specimen in a container of VCI-F Oil and maintain at 130°F (55°C) in an oven for 72 hours. Examine the specimen for visible signs of change.

RPAM 700 contains a select blend of volatile corrosion inhib- itor (VCI) components such that when the liquid phase wets the substrate and is drained, the thin film emits these components to further protect the headspace against corrosion allowing engines to be shipped without coolant. Wetting agents have been incorporated into RPAM 700 to allow for a more even film coverage especially for complex surfaces and geometries.

Because of the full compatibility and the VCI quality of RPAM 700, the product can be used to protect any high value closed loop systems such as radiators and heat exchangers. If the tank is to hold , diesel or other oil soluble hydrocarbon it is advised to fully dry the tank prior to shipping to prevent trace water contamination. To ensure the VCI does not evaporate from the headspace it is advised that system is capped and sealed. RPAM 700 is compati- ble with all high grade elastomers such as fluorinated or acrylonitrile that it may come in contact with.

RPAM 700 contains no phosphates, silicones, nonylphenols, dicyclohexylamine (DCHA), diethanolamine (DEA) or nitrites and is compounded with components generally regarded as safe for greater operator acceptance. RPAM 700 is very low foaming and is an effective rust inhibitor at low concentrations. Due to the products solubility you can tailor the product’s concentration to meet your protection requirements however it is generally used at 5–15% concentration.

RPAM 700 forms a near imperceptible film on machine parts for excellent corrosion protection without forming a sticky residue. It is also compatible in a wide range of water hardness. The clear dilution makes it ideal choice for leak test baths as well.
