Photo by Terry Gilbert © Photo by Terry Gilbert © WELCOME TO MAYESBROOK PARK Barking V Heybridge Swifts Good afternoon ladies, gentlemen, girls and boys. Today, thanks to the hard work, dedication and generosity both in time and money of the people who voluntarily keep the oldest football club in Barking and Dagenham going we are able to continue in our 141st season, our 3rd century and our 56th season in the Isthmian League. We are very pleased to welcome the players, supporters and officials of Heybridge Swifts and of course our own supporters, any uncommitted visitors and those most important people the referee and assistants, without whom we would have no game. We hope that you enjoy your visit and that we all have a safe journey home. Our very 1st meeting was when our reserves played Heybridge Swifts 1st team in the Essex Intermediate Cup final at Victoria Road, Dagenham on 25-3-1967 which we won 2-1 after extra time. Our 1st meeting at senior level was on 2-8 1986 when we drew an away friendly 0-0 and our 1st competitive meeting was on 6-1-1987 when we drew an away Eastern Floodlit Competition match 1-1. Our most recent meeting was on 16-03-2019 when we won 4-1 at home in the league. Returning for a new spell with the Blues are Ben O’Brien, David Fallah, Billy Jones, Jack Roult. Third in our all-time appearance list; Ben re- joins after a short spell at Basildon. David Fallah scored two in our friendly against Enfield Town after making three appearances in an injury-hit spell during our first season back at the Isthmian League level. Billy Jones also spent time us with that season; scoring 10 goals in 35 games. Jack Roult spent some time playing football in Australia but we are delighted to welcome him back to Barking. Our new signings are full back Keaton Moore, centre-backs Jacob Adeyemi and Albie Sheehan-Cozens and midfielder Junior Luke. Moore has previously played for Walthamstow while Jacob joins from Wingate & Finchley. Albie Sheehan-Cozens played against us last for South Park and Chalfont St Peter while Junior Luke joins following a spell out injured but his previous clubs include AFC Hornchurch (Now Hornchurch FC). We welcome all and wish them luck in a Barking shirt! From the squad that ended last season, we have unfortunately had 2 departures. Jordan Peart has left and has joined East Thurrock in the Pitching In Isthmian League Premier while Steven Sardinha has left for personal reasons; as a promotion has meant a move up to Liverpool. We wish both of them the best of luck! PRESEASON RESULTS A full list of our preseason results can be found on page 11. BARKING U23s We are delighted to announce that former Reserve Team manager Jeff Sears will be taking over as the U23’s manager for this upcoming season. Jeff will be assisted by former first-team manager Alan Dickens. We wish both the best of luck this season and thank Colin Dobson for the work he had done in the role previously. We hope their players, officials and supporters have an enjoyable short stay with us and have a safe journey home later. We also extend a very warm welcome to our three match officials. On Wednesday evening we were knocked out of the FA Cup following a 1-0 defeat in the 1RQ replay against Leverstock Green. It was a hard fought match where a direct free kick that went in off the post was all that separated the two sides over two matches. Good luck to Leverstock Green in the next round against Dorking Wanderers, and we now turn our attention to today’s FA Vase match. Additionally we add a special welcome to our visitors as Barking have been moved laterally during the close season, from the North Division where last season they finished in 9th position with 50 points from their 38 games, into the South Central Division and so will be visiting many new teams over the course of the following months. Last season was again one of our most successful in recent times and ended with that 1-2 defeat away Cheshunt who went on to win the play-off final at Bracknell Town and so ended in disappointing fashion (and the injury to Isaac Osei-Tutu which he is still suffering with).
