ABOUT THE POSITION The Fire Management program of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forest and Pawnee National Grassland intends to hire a permanent, full time, GS-0462-9 Airtanker Base Manager with a duty station of Broomfield, . The incumbent will be supervised by the Forest Fire Management Officer. This position serves as the Airtanker Base Manager of JeffCo Airtanker Base assigned to a high-complexity Forest, with other collateral duties in the Fire Management program. The duty station is remote from the Forest Supervisor’s Office.

This is a secondary firefighter position under the provisions of 5 USC 8336(c) or 5 USC 8412 (d). Applicants must meet National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) qualification as Airtanker Base Manager (ATBM).

DUTIES The Airtanker Base Manager oversees all aspects of the JeffCo Airtanker Base operations and provides leadership to on- call base employees during fire emergencies. The Airtanker Base Manager provides administrative and technical supervision in all areas of fixed-wing retardant operations, servicing heavy and single engine Airtankers. Additional duties will include oversight of USFS facilities and ramp operations which may include additional helicopters and fixed wing aircraft in a variety of configurations for varied missions, including Lead, ASM, Smokejumper, recon, IR and photo aircraft. Airtankers and support aircraft may be mobilized from JeffCo ATB throughout the . The Airtanker Base Manager is also responsible for the maintenance and repair of the Forest network of 8 RAWS stations. The Arapaho Roosevelt National Forest has multiple partners in fire management, including the National Park Service, Colorado State, 7 Counties and numerous local fire departments; all depend on service and support from JeffCo ATB. The successful applicant must be able to function with minimal oversight, cultivate relationships with diverse fire agencies, be an effective communicator, and ensure that all personnel are properly trained and qualified in tanker base operations, risk management, administrative procedures and policy implications. Selective Placement Factors: • A minimum 90 days experience performing wildland fire suppression duties as a member of an organized fire suppression crew or comparable unit that utilized knowledge of wildland fire suppression, containment or control techniques and practices under various conditions. HOW APPLICANTS WILL BE EVALUATED Applicants will be evaluated based on qualifications for this position as evidenced by the education, experience, and training described in your resume, as well as the responses to the Occupational Questionnaire to determine the degree to which the applicant possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below: • Knowledge of Airtanker base operations. • Knowledge of operations, safety and security planning and facility maintenance at an Airtanker base. • Knowledge of Airtanker capabilities and limitations which include knowledge of aircraft types and tanking systems to insure safe loading. • Knowledge of Airtanker base administration, contracts and computer applications. • Ability to supervise. • Ability to communicate other than in writing. DUTY STATION Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland The Duty Station for this position is located at the Rocky Mountain Metro Airport in Broomfield, CO. The Arapaho/Roosevelt National Forest (ARF) is considered an urban forest because of proximity to large population centers along the including Boulder and Denver. The Forest also has one of the most complex ownership patterns in the country. Key statistics of the Forest include:
