APPLIED TECHNOLOGY HYDRON's manufacturing line developed to produce solders in form of a continuous wire with one, three, four or five cores filled with high quality flux, close to the circumference of the wire throughout its length, see Fig.1, is based on the drawing and extrusion technology, namely conventional and hydrostatic extrusion supported by wire drawing. Conventional and hydrostatic extrusion processes allows for production of the sub- millimeter gauge solders from the starting billet of tens of millimeters, see Fig.2. In the case of ultrafine flux cored solder wires, see Fig.3, the hydrostatic extrusion process has been introduced and proved to be superior to other methods, as for example wire drawing due to its distinguished features, i.e.: Gives very high reduction ratios in one single pass. Produces no tension forces acting on the product, therefore ultrafine gauges can be manufactured. Assures high dimensional accuracy and surface finish. Gives more reliable products. Consumes less energy. Requires smaller floorspace. Allows for high production flexibility what makes simultaneous manufacturing of variety of alloys and gauges possible. (fax +4842-847-506, tel. +4842-402-546(7))_________________________________Production Program HYDRON'S BACKGROUND Extrusion technology has been creatively developed by the High Pressure Research Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences UNIPRESS in many areas. This technology has appeared as a result of research works done in UNIPRESS on plasticity of solids and metalforming under pressure. UNIPRESS' research equipment is known in many laboratories all over the world, as IBM Research Center, University of Tokyo, Bell Lab, MIT, Cambridge University and many others. UNIPRESS is also well known as a Center where the modern, highly efficient technology for solders making has been developed, tested and introduced as an industrial, highly effective process. Finally, UNIPRESS has founded two companies in Poland : the HYDRON-Unipress, Ltd. and the CYNEL-Unipress, Ltd. where the machinery for solders making is manufactured (HYDRON) and which uses these machines for mass solders production (CYNEL). CYNEL's solders made with HYDRON's machines are well known to almost 1500 industrial users, including : computer producers, electronic component manufacturers, TV an radio makers, instrument, meter and lamp producers, and others. HYDRON's units have been already installed and are succesfully operated in USA, Germany, France, Italy, England, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Poland. Solders made with HYDRON's machinery meet world-wide standards and specifications. MANUFACTURING STAGES HYDRON's solder making line involves the following four manufacturing stages, see Fig.4 : STAGE I Continuous Casting (round anodes or solid billets for further extrusion) STAGE II Hot Conventional Extrusion large gauges STAGE III Wire Drawing (mass production) or Cold Conventional Extrusion (small batch production) medium gauges STAGE IV Wire Drawing or Hydrostatic Extrusion (Thinning) fine and ultrafine gauges The HYDRON's System is driven and controlled electro-hydraulically, thus it is reliable, simple in operation and energy-saving. PRODUCTION STRUCTURE The HYDRON's machines permit to produce both, the standard, pure tin-lead solders, as well as high- and low-melting, and special purpose solder alloys. Pure tin and pure lead can be also processed. All flux-cored and solid solders between 100mm(4"") and 0.1 mm(0.004") (or for some alloys even 0.03 mm( 0.0012") in diameter being in world-wide use can be manufactured. Production profile can be selected arbitrarily upon the Customer's demand, and can include both, round and complex cross sections of anodes, bars, rods, tapes, wires, etc., see Fig.4 Technical data may be modified as a result of technical improvements ul.     GALVALUME FACTS Soldering Although GALVALUME® steel sheet can be soldered, the presence of a thin film of aluminum oxide on the surface makes soldering more difficult than when soldering galvanized products. When soldering is necessary, the techniques and fluxes used to solder aluminum should be used. Welding GALVALUME® steel sheet can be welded by conventional resistance and arc welding processes. The safety precautions are similar to those for hot-dip galvanized sheet. Because the surface contact resistance is low when compared with uncoated sheet, resistance welding of GALVALUME® steel sheet requires welding currents, welding times and electrode forces higher than those required for similar thicknesses of uncoated cold rolled steel. These welding parameters are similar to those normally used on galvanized steel. However, experience has shown that even more frequent electrode dressing is required, as compared with galvanized sheet, to achieve good welds. There is less fuming when welding GALVALUME® steel sheet than when welding galvanized sheet. The coating contains less zinc than a comparably thick galvanized coating. Nevertheless, adequate ventilation is required to remove the zinc oxide fumes. Fastening From a mechanical standpoint, any style of fastener suitable for use with sheet metal can be used to join GALVALUME® steel sheet to itself or to other parts, provided the fastener design is appropriate for the structural requirement of the application. The list of acceptable devices includes common fasteners like nuts and bolts, screws and rivets of all types, and special types like clamp fasteners, clips and blind screws. Corrosion characteristics of the fastener material should be carefully considered from two standpoints.

    Roofinox Soldering Soldering is the creation of a durable but detachable joining of two metals by melting a filling metal into a joint. This soft soldering process requires temperatures below 842°F, the typical soldering temperature for stainless steel tin-sol- der is around 480°F. Due to its specific surface Roofinox® stainless steel is readily solderable. The surfaces to be joined must be free of grease, dirt or other foreign matter. Stainless steel requires some adaptations such as a different flux than for copper and zinc. With the use of proper flux, techniques and tools Roofinox is easily solderable and provides durable water- proofing joints. By observing the following points, you will achieve an outstanding soldering quality. For durable and clean soldering joints the following tools are required: • Soldering iron with soldering bit • Solder (30 %, 40 %, 50 % solder possible) • Soldering stone / ammoniac stone (pure ammoniac, no tinned ammoniac stone) • Flux - Roofinox FLM • Flux brush • Cleaning tissue • Fresh water Flux For Roofinox and Roofinox tin-plated fluxes based on phosphoric acid are suitable. Not suitable are fluxes based on hydro- chloric acid or dilute hydrochloric acid or containing chloride ions. The industry offers a range of soldering fluxes suitable for stainless steel. Best results are achieved with Roofinox FLM. Roofinox FLM guarantees sufficient removal of the thin passive layer and prevents its renewed formation during soldering. They provide optimal wetting and cleanliness of the soldering area. If the soldered joint will be subjected to particular stress, please contact us. Conducting a solder test is recommended before beginning the job to ensure that the desired result will be achieved.

China This investigation studies 3003 aluminum alloys for automobile heat exchangers. The effects of precipitation in homogenization treatments, recrystallization in extrusion and brazing on extrusion forming ability and final material properties are examined. At first, fine second phase particles were precipitated during the 460C Â 9 h homogenization treatment and coarse particles were precipitated by homogenization treatments with 600C Â 9 h. Second, when the precipitation were not plentiful and fine enough during extrusion, the amount of solution dominated the extrusion breakout pressure, and recrystallization was easier; on the contrary, the domination state was replaced by plentiful and fine precipitated particles, and recrystallization became more difficult. Additionally, the hardness after extrusion was lower in the complete recrystallization position, and higher in the incomplete recrystallization position. Finally, in brazing, the sample under the 460C Â 9h condition (a) underwent full recrystallization from partial recrystallization with a reduction in strength; the local position of the edge of the sample under the 600C Â 9h ! 460C Â 3 h condition (c) exhibited a second recrystallization and a significant drop in hardness.     Hail University College of Engineering Department of Mechanical Engineering Metal Extrusion and Drawing Processes and Equipment Ch 15 Metal Extrusion and Drawing Extrusion and drawing involve, respectively, pushing or pulling a material through a die basically for the purpose of reducing or changing its cross-sectional area. Extrusion and drawing have numerous applications in the manufacture of continuous as well as discrete products from a wide variety of metals and alloys. In extrusion, a cylindrical billet is forced through a die in a manner similar to squeezing toothpaste from a tube or extruding Play-Doh ,in various cross sections in a toy press. Metal Extrusion Typical products made by extrusion are railings for sliding doors, window frames, tubing having various cross sections, aluminum ladder frames, and numerous structural and architectural shapes. Extrusions can be cut into desired lengths, which then become discrete parts, such as brackets, gears, and coat hangers Commonly extruded materials are aluminum, copper, steel, magnesium, and lead; other metals Depending on the ductility of the material, extrusion is carried out at room or elevated temperatures. Extrusion at room temperature often is combined with forging operations, in which case it generally is known as cold Extrusions and examples of products made by extrusion sectioning off extrusions Drawing In drawing, the cross section of solid rod, wire, or tubing is reduced or changed in shape by pulling it through a die. Drawn rods are used for shafts, spindles, and small pistons and as the raw material for fasteners (such as rivets, bolts, and screws). In addition to round rods, various profiles can be drawn.
