Dec. 17, 2013 Mr. Larry Page, Chief Executive Officer Mr. Eric Schmidt, Chairman Google 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043 Dear Mr. Page and Mr. Schmidt, We are writing on behalf of Consumer Watchdog to call on you to take immediate action to police and clean up your social network, Google+, which in an apparent quest to grow the subscriber base as rapidly as possible has been allowed to become a virtual playground for online predators and explicit sexual content. Recent efforts to bolster Google+ include your decision to require that before a user can comment on a YouTube video they must have a Google+ account and allowing schools using Google Apps for Education to enable Google+ for students 13 and older. Turning a blind eye to the troubling privacy vulnerabilities on Google+ while encouraging greater use of the social network is simply unacceptable. Writing last month in the British newspaper The Daily Mail Chairman Eric Schmidt outlined steps that Google is taking to fight child pornography on the Internet. The article described how Google “in the last three months put more than 200 people to work developing new, state-of-the- art technology to tackle the problem.” Your effort to block Google Search from returning links to child sexual abuse material from appearing in your results is commendable. Shortly thereafter you cooperated in the arrest of a pedophile who was storing images on Picasa. However, there is a simple and more important step you must take if people are to believe you are genuinely concerned about combating this depravity. -
Creating Google Street Views with the Samsung Gear 360 Camera By
Creating Google Street Views with the Samsung Gear 360 Camera1 by Andy Lyons Last modified: November 2016 Google Street View Camera Loan Kit In October 2016, Google loaned a 360-camera kit to IGIS (a statewide technical support program in ANR), for the purposes of exploring how Google’s Street View technology can be useful for research and management at the Hopland Research and Extension Center (and ANR field stations more generally). Street View app and the Samsung Gear 360 2 The Street View app (for both Android and iOS) is what you use to create and upload Street Views. The Samsung Gear 360 is one of about four 360 cameras that the Google Street View app is setup to work with (meaning the app can control the camera pretty seamlessly). Most people use the Street View app only to view off-road street views. You can also view off-road street views in plain old Google Maps, but the Street View app makes it a little easier to find user generated content. If you have a VR device such as the Google Cardboard, you can view Street Views in 3 cardboard mode . In terms of content creation, the Street View app has three main functions: i) control the camera, ii) process images (which includes stitching them together, blurring faces and license plates, adding locations as needed, and linking nearby photos), and iii) upload the images to Google Street View (after which they’ll be available in Google Maps immediately). The Samsung Gear can also record 360 video. For that you need the Samsung Gear 360 Manager (or another app). -

Using Google MAPS Street View on Your PHONE and Creating Hyperlinks
Using Google Maps, Google Street View, and Google Earth on your PHONE and creating hyperlinks Google Maps Type in your search term. You might need to try different phrases to get what you want. Pull the bottom screen up to see the Overview and click on Photos Switch to “Street View & 360” and search through the images listed, opening them by clicking on them. Once in the 360 degree view you can move your view around by swiping on the screen (you can also do this to the smaller preview images in the list). Once you have found the view that “explains the ways in which it augments understanding of the monument/place/site/object itself, beyond your readings or what has been discussed in class” save the view as the choice for your Spatial Exploration Project entry. To do this click on the “share” icon (a square with an arrow projecting from it) that I’ve outlined in red at the top of the page. At this point you can text or email yourself the link or copy it to paste into a document. To create a hyperlink in your document, highlight the text you want to be connected to your view, paste the copied url you made from the previous share screen, hit ”go” or “enter,” and that text will now have the link embedded in it. Google Street View While less well known than Google Maps, Street View allows you to walk the streets of the location you choose. Once again, you type in your search term. -

EPIC FTC Google Purchase Tracking Complaint
Before the Federal Trade Commission Washington, DC In the Matter of ) ) Google Inc. ) ) ___________________________________) Complaint, Request for Investigation, Injunction, and Other Relief Submitted by The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) I. Introduction 1. This complaint concerns “Store Sales Measurement,” a consumer profiling technique pursued by the world’s largest Internet company to track consumers who make offline purchases. Google has collected billions of credit card transactions, containing personal customer information, from credit card companies, data brokers, and others and has linked those records with the activities of Internet users, including product searches and location searches. This data reveals sensitive information about consumer purchases, health, and private lives. According to Google, it can track about 70% of credit and debit card transactions in the United States. 2. Google claims that it can preserve consumer privacy while correlating advertising impressions with store purchases, but Google refuses to reveal—or allow independent testing of— the technique that would make this possible. The privacy of millions of consumers thus depends on a secret, proprietary algorithm. And although Google claims that consumers can opt out of being tracked, the process is burdensome, opaque, and misleading. 3. Google’s reliance on a secret, proprietary algorithm for assurances of consumer privacy, Google’s collection of massive numbers of credit card records through unidentified “third-party partnerships,” and Google’s use of an opaque and misleading “opt-out” mechanism are unfair and deceptive trade practices subject to investigation and injunction by the FTC. II. Parties 4. The Electronic Privacy Information Center (“EPIC”) is a public interest research center located in Washington, D.C. -
