I am hoping you are having a little down time to enjoy the hobby we all can’t seem to get enough of. Even better if you are able to share it with friends….or that next generation who hasn’t had the fun of gluing their fingers together, losing a part in the carpet, or spilling paint on your wife’s favorite piece of furniture! We certainly have been busy here at Squadron. This month, we have several new releases from Squadron Products. First in line is a brand-new Squadron Signal book, the P-38 Lightning in Action (Part # SS10222). Authored by well-known author David Doyle, this book tells the story and history of the iconic twin boom fighter that debuted during WWII. Designed by Lockheed as a twin-engine interceptor, the Lightning was advanced for its time and generation. Powered by two supercharged Allison engines, the P-38 played an important and decisive role in the skies over the Pacific and Europe during World War 2. This volume is filled with many drawings and never before seen pictures you won’t want to miss. We are particularly excited about sharing 3 more releases in our new premium line of True Details. With the original molds being designed using 3-D technology, I know you will find the accuracy unparalleled. We are releasing the F-35A Lightning II wheel set in three sizes (Part #s TDP72203, TDP48203 and TDP32203). They are extremely detailed and carefully rendered in grey resin. These wheels will adapt to any F-35A kit. In our Heroes & Warriors line, we introduce Panzer Crewman WW2 with Provisions (Part # WAH35527) on Page 24. This resin 54mm figure depicts a German Panzer Crewman in between battles, carrying his necessities. Figurine comes with small resin base. Whether you use these figures in a diorama setting or simply create them as individual pieces of miniature art, I think you will agree that the proportions and scaling of this figure line are outstanding. Don’t miss out on our new Squadron Tool this month: the Portable Mini Pin Vise with Drill Bits (Part # SQ10805). This little gem allows you to easily carry mini drill bits to a model event or even keep on your desk, while safely protecting their delicate nature. Comes with internal magnet for easy access and to hold the bits in place (yes, the magnet is one of my favorite things about this essential modeler’s tool!). With new arrivals coming every week, our website is updated daily. Make sure to come back often to www.Squadron.com and check out these new releases along with special deals and hot topics to enjoy. Now get out there and get modeling! Cheers! reaching the limits of their search area, ENS Reid and his navigator, ENS Swan decided to push their search a little farther. When he spotted small specks in the distance, he promptly radioed Midway: “Sighted main body. Bearing 262 distance 700.” PBYs could carry a crew of eight or nine and were powered by two Pratt & Whitney R-1830-92 radial air-cooled engines at 1,200 horsepower each. The aircraft was 104 feet wide wing tip to wing tip and 63 feet 10 inches long from nose to tail. Catalinas were patrol planes that were used to spot enemy submarines, ships, and planes, escorted convoys, served as patrol bombers and occasionally made air and sea rescues. Many PBYs were manufactured in San Diego, but Reid’s aircraft was built in Canada. “Strawberry 5” was found in dilapidated condition at an airport in South Africa, but was lovingly restored over a period of six years. It was actually flown back to San Diego halfway across the planet – no small task for a 70-year old aircraft with a top speed of 120 miles per hour. The plane had to meet FAA regulations and was inspected by an FAA official before it could fly into US airspace. Crew of the Strawberry 5 – National Archives Cover Artwork for the Program NOTES FROM THE ARTIST Unlike the action in the Atlantic where German submarines routinely targeted merchant convoys, the Japanese never targeted shipping in the Pacific. The Cover Artwork for the Veterans' Biographies American convoy system in the Pacific was used primarily during invasions where hundreds of merchant marine ships shuttled men, food, guns, This PBY Catalina (VPB-44) was flown by ENS Jack Reid with his ammunition, and other supplies across the Pacific.

  • GURPS WWII Classic
World War II raged from the deserts of North Africa to the jungles of the South Pacific, from the mountaintops of the Alps to the beaches of Normandy, across (and under) the high seas, and through the skies above it all. Soldiers in all of these places relied upon the machines of war: bombers, fighters, tanks, jeeps, ships, submarines, landing craft, and much more. GURPS WWII: Motor Pool has a huge variety of historically accurate vehicles from mankind’s greatest conflict. Many of the vehicles were common; others were rare or even unique. From the stodgy General Lee tank to the earliest helicopters and the wildly impractical Maus, Motor Pool has tons of new gear for every GURPS WWII player. Motor Pool also gathers in one place all the refinements to the vehicle design system that have evolved since the original corebook came out, as well as a new system to describe any WWII-era conveyance in a few simple steps. These additions include scores of new weapons to be fitted on your war machines – some historical and some products of the imagination. On top of all that, Motor Pool has advice on S how to integrate vehicles into a roleplaying T E campaign, with details on how vehicle crews V really lived and fought, from the difficulties of E supply to getting their machine moving at all. WESTWOOD nCHTING C1TTDC or WORLD World War II was the last of the great naval wars, the culmination of a century of warship development in which steam, steel and finally aviation had been adapted for naval use. The battles, both big and small, of this war are well known, and the names of some of the ships which fought them are still familiar, names like Bismarck, Warspite and Enterprise. This book presents these celebrated fighting ships, detailing both their war- time careers and their design features. In addition it describes the evolution between the wars of the various ship types : how their designers sought to make compromises to satisfy the require - ments of fighting qualities, sea -going capability, expense, and those of the different naval treaties. Thanks to the research of devoted ship enthusiasts, to the opening of government archives, and the publication of certain memoirs, it is now possible to evaluate World War II warships more perceptively and more accurately than in the first postwar decades. The reader will find, for example, how ships in wartime con- ditions did or did not justify the expecta- tions of their designers, admiralties and taxpayers (though their crews usually had a shrewd idea right from the start of the good and bad qualities of their ships). With its tables and chronology, this book also serves as both a summary of the war at sea and a record of almost all the major vessels involved in it.

Premier Josef Stalin duly appealed directly to Prime Minister Winston Churchill for replacement aircraft, and in late the British delivered the first of Hurricanes that would be supplied to the Soviet Union under the Lend-Lease agreement. Specifically requested by the USSR, the Hurricanes were quickly thrown into action in early - the Soviet Air Forces' most difficult year in their opposition to the Luftwaffe. Virtually all the Hurricanes were issued to Soviet fighter regiments in the northern sector of the front, where pilots were initially trained to fly the aircraft by RAF personnel that had accompanied the early Hawker fighters to the USSR.
