The 2016 Cardinals Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 27. Green Week Activity – Shoe Recycling: The Cardinals, in partnership with Shoeman Water Projects, will collect shoes at Busch Stadium gates before the game. Introduction After many years of overly simplistic pricing, pricing strategy in Major League Baseball has now evolved to recognize the complexity of the supply and demand factors for baseball tickets. Most important among these factors is the demand uncertainty teams experience from game to game, often with a high degree of variation. There are many causes of this variation, such as the quality of the opponent or the day of the week. Perhaps the least understood factor is competition for fans’ discretionary spending, yet in other industries this is of paramount concern when setting price. If an owner is lucky, there are capacity constraints (i.e., limited stadium seating) that prevent the team from satisfying total demand. Calling such a constraint lucky is ironic; owners of teams playing in smaller stadiums used to complain that they couldn’t compete financially because they had fewer seats to sell, but times have changed along with the economic model of a sports team.
