Weed suppression by cover cropping is considered as a viable alternative to herbicidal control. This study0020was, therefore, conducted during 2010-2012 in a Malaysia oil palm plantation to characterize oil palm weed communities and evaluate oil palm yield under four different perennial cover-crop systems. Experimental treatments included four different cover crop combinations such as Axonopus compressus, Calopogonium caeruleum + Centrosema pubescens, Mucuna bracteata, Pueraria javanica + Centrosema pubescens, and herbicidal control by glufosinate-ammonium and weedy control. Weed composition in the un-weeded treatment was different from that of cover crop treatments. The un-weeded treatment favored Paspalum conjugatum and A. compressus as the dominant species. In the A. compressus and C. caeruleum + C. pubescens treatments the associated weed species with highest dominance was Asystasia gangetica, while the weeds A. compressus and A. gangetica were associated with M. bracteata and P. javanica + C. pubescens treatments. This species is distinguished from the other species of Sycanus by its antennal segment I having two orange annulations; the posterior pronotal lobe being weakly tumid in the middle near the posterior margin; the scutellar spine being erect, short, and rounded at the apex; each femur having two incomplete orange annulations; the hemelytral corium being blackish with the veins yellow to yellowish brown; and the abdominal laterotergites being weakly extended dorsad. This species is notable because it feeds on some serious lepidopteran pests of cabbage. Albert SZENT-GYÖRGYI, Nobel prize for medicine 1937 5 Over its lifetime, oil palm is one of the crops that generates most current" per unit area, from photosynthesis to oil: 5 to 10 times more oil per hectare than any other oil crop. This energy, in oil form, offers high nutritional value (vitamins, antioxidants, oleic fraction) and technological qualities (the naturally solid fraction is of interest to the agrifood industry). The photosynthetic efficiency of the oil palm cannot be achieved without humans, who are ten times more numerous per unit area than for the production of soybean oil: an “oil palm” project is therefore first and foremost a human project, a job generating project, a project that is demanding in both skills and work quality, a project combining the sun, land and people. These people are actively committed to producing seeds, managing prenurseries, nurseries and plantations, ensuring their upkeep and harvesting them... Their work is well rewarded, even on difficult soils. Water is the “switch”, and even the combustion agent, since every mm of rainfall gained over the water deficit generates much more than a linear response. Solar radiation feeds flow intensity, temperature modulates it. Production is organized in a given space that obviously needs to be preserved, or even enhanced – even more over the long term (oil palm works well for those who persevere best, and rewards them most generously). -

Hierbei liegt ein Fokus auf nachwachsenden Rohstoffen. Die Hof- Bioraffinerie soll die gasförmigen Chemikalien Ethylen, Propylen und Isopren aus Silage bereitstellen. Hierzu sollen diese Chemikalien mittels Fermentation hergestellt werden. Die mikrobielle Bildung von Ethylen wurde bisher von drei Substraten beschrieben: (1) α-Ketoglutarat aus dem Zitratzyklus, (2) 1-Aminocyclopropan-1-Carbonsäure (ACC) aus dem Yang-Zyklus und (3) aus 2-keto-4-Methylthio Buttersäure (KMBA). Allen Stoffwechselwegen gemein ist eine suboptimale Stöchiometrie von Glukose ausgehend. Um wirtschaftliche Mengen bereitzustellen bedarf es der Erforschung neuer Stoffwechselwege zum Ethylen. Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist die Suche nach stöchiometrisch optimaleren Wegen und enzymatischen Reaktionen. Hierzu wurde die lehrstuhlinterne Stammsammlung mittels headspace Gaschromatographie nach ethylenogenen und propylenogenen Mikroorganismen durchmustert. -
