  • Forever the Black Smoke Blows in Krems’ [Auto-Translated from German]
Kramar, Thomas. ‘Forever the black smoke blows in Krems’ [Auto-translated from German]. Die Presse Online. 26 April 2018 Forever the black smoke blows in Krems In the nineties it was in vogue to state ends. Today one fears the "endless present": this is the motto of this year's Danube Festival. How postmodern is that? Or is it again - modern? The virtual source never runs dry: "Western Flag (Spindletop, Texas)", video by John Gerrard. – © Danube Festival It was an anticipated, much-anticipated eruption: on January 10, 1901, oil spewed from a well at Spindletop Hill (southeast Texas), yes: to splash. Two months later, the nearby town of Beaumont was a boomtown and its population tripled. The Irish artist John Gerrard recalls the time when oil spilled on Spindletop Hill. In his video installation "Western Flag (Spindletop, Texas)" he simulates that this source would never run dry, would never run out, but only bring more dirt, not juice for traffic and industry: black smoke is constantly pouring out of the jets, into shape a flag. Gerrard suggests a trivial interpretation. "Among the greatest legacies of the 20th century are not only the population explosion and the better living conditions, but also the significantly increased CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere," he writes: "This flag gives this invisible gas, this international danger, a picture, a way to represent oneself. " Heaven is where nothing happens Thomas Edlinger, Director of the Danube Festival, now places Gerrard's video installation in Krems in a new context of meaning - as an illustration of this year's theme: "Endless Presence".

Review: Roadburn Thursday 19th April 2017 By Sander van den Driesche It’s that time of the year again, the After Yellow Eyes it’s straight to the much anticipated annual pilgrimage to Main Stage to see Dark Buddha Rising Tilburg to join with many hundreds of perform with Oranssi Pazuzu as the travellers for Walter’s party at Waste of Space Orchestra, which is Roadburn. As I get off the train the another highly anticipated show, and in heat kicks me right in the face, what a this case one that won’t be played massive difference to the dull and rainy anywhere else (as far as I know). What morning I left behind in Scotland. This happened on that big stage was is glorious weather for a Roadburn phenomenal, we witnessed a near hour Festival! Bring it on! of glorious drone-infused psychedelic proggy doom. In fact, it felt a bit too early for me personally in the timing of the festival to experience such an extraordinarily mind-blowing set, but it was a remarkable collaboration and performance. I can’t wait for the Live at Roadburn release to come out (someone make it happen please!). Yellow Eyes by Niels Vinck After getting my bearings with the new venues, I enter Het Patronaat for the first of my highly anticipated performances of the festival, Yellow Eyes. But after three blistering minutes of ferocious black metal the PA system seems to disagree and we have our first “Zeal & Ardor moment” of 2018. It’s Waste of Space Orchestra by Niels Vinck not even remotely funny to see the On the same Main Stage, Earthless Roadburn crew frantically trying to played the first of their sets as figure out what went wrong, but luckily Roadburn’s artist in residence.

The critical, opinionated, and judgmental ravings of an angry, old soul. <... http://www.feastofhateandfear.com/reviews.html The critical, opinionated, and judgmental ravings of an angry, old soul. OMAR KHORSHID - Guitar El Chark DOUBLE 12" LP ( Sublime Frequencies ) I hear that this sucker is already sold out, and I can understand why. Guitar El Chark , which translates to 'Guitar of the Orient', is a collection of singles, and album cuts that spawn the Lebanese years of Omar Khorshid's musical career. The Egyptian Khorshid began playing guitar in the early 60s, and soon formed Le Petit Chats, who were modeled after The Beatles. Later he would join Abdel Halim Hafez and Baligh Hamdi in their orchestra, and that was when his fame began to spread throughout the Middle East. In the early 1970s he moved to Beirut, Lebanon, and recorded several solo LPs from 1973 to 1977. This later solo work is where the songs on Guitar El Chark come from. This release, and Omar's later work, consist of a blend of surf guitar, traditional Arab music, Flamenco, and psychedelic keyboards that form an instrumental, almost early-Bollywood sound. Seventeen tracks, and one promotional radio spot, adding up to over eighty minutes of awesome. I cannot express how wonderful it is to finally get my hands on some of his work. Well, neither can thousands of others, as this limited edition, gatefold, double slab of 12" wax has apparently flown off the racks. Hopefully, Seattle's Sublime Frequencies Records will reissue this in CD format for the newly schooled masses.
