Simba’s life begins in a rocky outcropping of the African plains. His birth is announced in the opening sequence of the movie, which shows all of the animals of the African veld gathering to hail their future king while the cute cub is held aloft from a dramatic spur of rock. The young lion lives with his father Mufasa, the king of the Pride Rock, his mother Sarabi, and members of their extended family. Simba learns from his father that he has a distinct place in the circle of life as the future king.
