There is sufficient space for pupils on the similarly timed main service 123, though some may need to stand. There are also timing changes to other journeys. 125 Lewes-Glynde-Firle-Alfriston-Wilmington-District General Hospital-Eastbourne Minor timing changes. 126 Seaford-Alfriston No change. 127/128/129 Lewes town services Minor changes. 143 Lewes-Ringmer-Laughton-Hailsham-Wannock-Eastbourne The section of route between Hailsham and Eastbourne is withdrawn. Passengers from the Wannock Glen Close will no longer have a service on weekdays (Cuckmere Buses routes 125 and 126 serve this stop on Saturdays and Sundays). Stagecoach routes 51 and 56 serve bus stops in Farmlands Way, about 500 metres from the Glen Close bus stop. A revised timetable will operate between Lewes and Hailsham, including an additional return journey. Stagecoach provide frequent local services between Hailsham and Eastbourne. 145 Newhaven town service The last journey on Mondays to Fridays will no longer be provided due to very low use. -

Levels or Changes?: Ethnic Context and the Political Demography of the UKIP Vote Eric Kaufmann, Professor, Department of Politics, Birkbeck College, University of London, UK [email protected]; twitter: @epkaufm; web: www.sneps.net Abstract Does contact with ethnic minorities make native whites more or less concerned about immigration – and how does this affect voting for populist right parties? This paper asks how ethnic diversity and change affect white support for the UK Independence Party (UKIP) in Britain in the 2010-15 period. In so doing, it underscores the contradictory responses evoked by levels and changes in minority presence. Extant work posits that both work in the same direction on white threat perceptions. This work instead holds that local minority levels and changes work at cross-purposes: minority increase contributes to whites’ sense of threat while minority levels produce contact effects in the direction of inter-ethnic accommodation. In addition, this analysis adds to work on contextual effects by applying a more rigorous technique for addressing the problem of selection bias, casting doubt on the notion that there is ‘white flight’ of anti-immigration whites away from diverse areas or toward whiter neighbourhoods. Finally, few have remarked that today’s ethnic changes contribute to tomorrow’s ethnic levels. Since minorities are attracted to areas that already minority-dense, the two measures are strongly correlated. This presents a paradox – how do threat effects associated with change become contact effects? The data here suggest that yesterday’s changes fade through habituation and contact while yesterday’s ethnic levels become increasingly salient for contact over time. -

Community Influencer – Epsom and Ewell Volunteer Role Profile Do you want to make a difference to health and social care services in Epsom and Ewell, and ensure that residents have a say in how the care they receive is delivered? Who are Healthwatch Surrey? • We are statutory organisation that listens to what local people say about the health and social care services they access. • We take their views and concerns to decision makers, to influence and improve how local services are run. • We also offer information and advice through our Helpdesk, and our free, independent NHS complaints and advocacy service. How do we make a difference? • We work closely with the CQC, Surrey County Council, Clinical Commissioners and NHS service providers to provide feedback from patients, escalate concerns and work to improve services based on the patient experiences our staff and volunteers have collected. • We engage with hard-to-reach communities, especially those at risk of health inequalities to ensure everyone has a say in the care they receive. How can I help? An exciting opportunity has arisen to help us develop a volunteer team to support our work in the Mole Valley and Epsom and Ewell areas. You will be instrumental in helping to develop our ‘Surrey Downs’ volunteer group, who will reach out to communities in the area to hear their recent experiences of health and social care and work with local NHS and social care providers to improve services. What will I do as a Community Influencer in the Surrey Downs volunteer group? • Work with our team and the group Chair to agree the priorities and a workplan for the group.
