Soliidad is a solo dance performance, an abstract journey of a traveler, the quest of an Emperor’s elegant path to oblivion, a slavish imitation of a great monk’s journey, conversing the narratives on the path to a roaring, hissing torrent of oblivion.

Vincent Mantsoe is a South African born dancer, choreographer, performer and teacher. He is a well-known international artist. He trained in in 1990, under the leadership of Sylvia Glasser, founder and artistic director of Moving into Dance. Mr. Mantsoe is now based in France where he created his company Association Noa, which tours across the globe. 27 Dans, Mandela Dans!

Nobonke van Tonder South Africa Dance Tour - Ready 28 June 2020 Delegates Notes: 09:00 Albert Wessels Auditorium

Dans, Mandela Dans! is a one-woman performance danced to the significant speeches of Nelson Mandela over decades of his prominence as a proponent of democracy in South Africa. The work displays the multifaceted interpretations of his words within the context of national liberation and, as performed by a White Female Body. However, it is also performed as the undergirding of the liberation of humanity within the richly nuanced interpretation of this term.

Dancer-psychologist, writer, mentor, specialist in the field of dynamic transformation giving opportunities to unleash what is invisible and intelligible in the human being, group and organisation. Immersion is experience at the leading edge of thought — the furthest extension of that thought. It is the best tool with which we help ourselves away from limited ways of seeing. You cannot bring the same stale self to the world and expect the world to be new for you. Philosophy and tools of creativity and wisdom evoke new desires, a particular life force. This work is ancient and yet, not been born, except at the moment of rapture.

Night/Light

Blank Canvas Kollective South Africa Multi-disciplinary Work in Progress Friday 26 June 2020 Delegates Notes: 10:30 Soetdoring Gazellie

Night/Light uses live music, video projection, shadows, light-play and live performance to explore a night in the life of a young girl trying to deal with racing thoughts. It evokes moments when we feel alone: afraid of the dark, experiencing changes and challenges – unable to express ourselves. For 9-11 year olds caught at a delicate time – between the expectations of growing up and still haunted by childhood fears – this magical, mysterious piece encourages children to listen to their inner voice

Night/Light is Blank Canvas Kollective’s debut offering for children and marks their move to being focused on creating high quality work for young audiences. The idea for Night/Light was born in an Assitej workshop around creating work for Primary School Children.

41 Lest we Forget Lola Oduwole Belgium Theatre & Drama Work in Progress Thursday 25 June 2020 Delegates Notes: 15:30 Albert Wessels Auditorium

Lest we forget... traces the paths of three characters: a Nigerian man, a Jamaican man and a Ghanaian grandmother and their involvement in WW1. Both men volunteer and the grandmother watches as her grandson is coerced into joining a war which they only have a tenuous connection. The piece interlaces text and song, image and sound and explores the soldiers' experiences during WWI. Poignant is the way these protagonists had no true understanding of what they were letting themselves into. However their solid allegiance is to the 'crown' and the colonial lie that they were considered British subjects and part of the 'Motherland'. To volunteer fuels their personal ambition to discover the world and also to escape from their own domesticities. The piece is performed by a woman who enacts their journeys.

Oduwole trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as a classical singer, and worked in opera in key opera houses in the UK and in music theatre projects in Belgium. She acted as a workshop voice coach for socially- considerate projects in Flanders and Belgium.

Instinct Pictures Nigeria Theatre & Drama Pitching Friday 26 June 2020 Delegates Notes: 14:30 Albert Wessels Auditorium

“Shadows is a play that addresses the issue of men not able to speak up on what they are going through due to societal beliefs. Being vulnerable does not make you less of a man. Charles got abused in all forms, his friend Oghenekome took his own life because men are wired to have inbuilt ego, we tends to bottle up our emotions, which makes us depressed and many of us commit suicide. It is OK to ask for help- it will not bruise your ego. Speak out on your abuse and get help” Mental health is a very sensitive issue.

Pakana Kanaplila Tazmania Dance Pitching Thursday 25 June 2020 Delegates Notes: 11:30 kykNET Scaena

“Pakana Kanaplila is a Tasmanian Aboriginal dance group, formed in 2003. We work at the forefront of restoring and reviving the traditional practices of Tasmania’s first peoples, who thrived and lived in harmony with the land for tens of thousands of years. This is the story of our journey and an explanation for how we can use our knowledge to help others connect to their culture and identity.” Pakana Kanaplila began with the goal of reanimating important knowledge and information on traditional cultural practices, with a primary focus on that which was shared through song and dance. In searching for any documentation of our ancient culture, it became clear that very little had been documented or available in the oral tradition being passed down from generation to generation. This led us to dive deeper and continue seeking information from archives. Our aim is to ensure that the next generation will not have to search the pages of history to learn our cultural traditions, they will experience it firsthand, from the members of their community.

studio 180 South Africa Multi-disciplinary Pitching Thursday 25 June 2020 Delegates Notes: 11:30 kykNET Scaena Theatre

Please forgive me is a collaboration between South African composer Franco Prinsloo and visual artist Sonya Rademeyer. The work attempts to open up conversations around forgiveness for the devastating effects of colonialism within Southern Africa. Moving from a particular white perspective the work focuses on how land dispossession and the implementation of borders has created traumatic divides and intentional separation. Working with the metaphor of the slain Oryx the video piece enacts the painful struggle of colonial entanglement. An attempt at honouring the Oryx is performed and a sacri ce of the white self is made to the land to express remorse for the atrocities of the past. “Franco Prinsloo and myself met in December 2018 after noticing his work Die Gebreekte Snaar (Broken String) which was performed live at IVC Rottterdam 2018. At the time I was exploring work related to The Broken String – a San lament of grief where the bow string no longer vibrates, sung by Xaa-ttin for the death of his friend the magician and rain maker Nuin-kui-ten – and we started exploring how our work might cross-pollinate and infuence one another”.

For the first time since Apollo 11, space travel’s status returns to its former glory, astronauts are more popular than film stars and the word “colonialization” has a positive meaning. But as Science and Entertainment become indistinguishable and death becomes more sensational than life, some serious questions arise. Can any form of colonialization be good? Are there any limits to entertainment? And should Gordon be killed for eating the last Tabasco sauce? On Mars is an entertaining, highly surprising and “really cool” stage production that will keep the audience entertained. However, it also asks some serious questions about our relationship with toxic terminology, entertainment and popular science. These are important questions because, who knows, someone might just die. Their first priority is not to make, because they are involved in other film and theatre projects.

A two hander originally performed by two African males but now comes with a twist, with two females (one African and one Afrikaner). Inspired by a true story, the show takes place in a prison cell at Roben island and sees the journeys of the two prisoners. Although written in the 70s, it's themes are still relevant in this modern world. The plot thickens when the two prepare for a performance of the legendary Antigone and it's through this that their frustrations with themselves and each other are exposed. A story about oppression, hope, betrayal and triumph. The project manager Jane Mpholo graduated in 2012 (BA Drama and Theatre Arts) and has a passion to use art for social change and justice. She has recently been recognised by the Mail and Guardian as one of the top 100 women changing South Africa through art, film and media. She has since the year of 2012 been active in the theatrical arts industry and continues to be a game changer
