Die 77. Golden Globes Verleihung fand am 5. Januar 2020 statt. Pandemiebedingt erfolgte die Nominierung für die 78. Golden Globe Awards erst jetzt. Die pandemiebedingte reduzierte Auswertungsmöglichkeit in den amerikanischen Kinos hat ihre Auswirkungen. Für die Kategorien «Bester Film» und «Beste Komödie/Musical» ist kein einziger Film eines traditionellen Filmstudios nominiert. Überflieger ist nicht unerwartet Netflix mit 42! Nominierungen, 22 für Spielfilme, 20 für Fernseharbeiten. Mit 6 Nominierungen für «Mank» und 5 Nominierungen für «The Trial of the Chicago 7» hat Netflix auch die Filme mit den meisten Nominierungen. Erfreulich: Erstmals in der Geschichte der Nominierungen der Golden Globes wurden in der Regiekategorie mehr Frauen als Männer nominiert, nämlich die britische Regiedebütantin Emerald Fennell für «Promising Young Woman», die schwarze Schauspielerin und Regisseurin Regina King für «One Night in Miami» und die in den USA lebende und arbeitende Chinesin Chloé Zhao für «Nomadland». Grosse Freude herrscht im deutschsprachigen Raum über die Nominierung der erst zwölfjährigen Schauspielerin Helena Zengel in der Kategorie «Beste Nebendarstellerin für das beste Filmdrama». Im Western «Neues aus der Welt» spielt die junge Berlinerin an der Seite von Tom Hanks. Den Schweizer Kinobesucher/innen ist Helena Zengel vom Film «Systemsprenger» bekannt. «Systemsprenger» kam im Oktober 2020 in die Schweizer Kinos und konnte beachtliche 24'161 Eintritte verzeichnen. Der Kinostart von «Neues aus der Welt», Originaltitel «News of the World» war auf den 10. Februar 2021 verschoben worden. Der traurige Alltag der Kinos auch hier: Universal hat den Film aus der Startliste gestrichen. Netflix wird «Neues aus der Welt» im Februar ausstrahlen! In der Geschichte der Golden Globes Awards hat Meryl Streep die meisten Nominationen. Sie wurde 32 Mal nominiert. Die häufigsten Nominationen als bester männlicher Schauspieler erhielt Jack Lemmon mit 22 Nominationen. Die Verleihung der «78th Golden Globe Awards» erfolgt am 28. Februar 2021 wiederum moderiert durch das «Saturday Night Live» Duo Tina Fey und Amy Poehler, aber nicht am selben Ort. Tina Fey wird im New Yorker Rainbow Room im Rockefeller Center auftreten und Amy Poehler im Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, das Publikum wird online zugeschaltet. News of World
News of the World “News of the World” is an American western co-written and directed by Paul Greengrass. It follows a laconic Civil War veteran (Tom Hanks) who decides to return a young American waif who was been taken hostage by Native Americans as a toddler back to her last remaining family members in West Texas. The film is clearly meant to echo the spirit and flavor of classic American Westerns, like “The Searchers,” (especially) as well as “True Grit” and “Days of Heaven.” The film is dominated by the figure of Hanks as the Union Army captain named Jefferson Kyle Kidd, who has settled in Texas five years after the War and ekes out a living as a itinerant reader of current newspapers for folks starved of information from the outside world. Fake news, indeed; this is the only news these people get, delivered in dim lecture halls and tacky theaters around the state in Kidd’s gentle but expression-rich cadence. Roaming the brush-filled countryside outside Wichita Falls one day, he hears heartfelt cries, which turn out to be those of the young Johanna (Helena Zengel) stolen some six years before, then raised by Kiowa Indians as one of their own. She speaks Kiowa, but has a German tinge to her language lingering over from her birth family. Her remaining kin, an aunt and uncle, live days away, hundreds of miles through the Texas Hill Country. The pair are not well-equipped, and the landscape is harsh, but they struggle on in Kidd’s ramshackle wagon.
