The Queen’s 90th Birthday

Lots of events to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday are happening in 2016. She had birthday party which was on ITV with Ant and Dec.

The show had 900 horses and lots of celebrities including Dame Shirley Bassey, Dame Helen Mirren, Jim Carter and Katherine Jenkins. Kylie sang I Believe In You , but got a little upstaged by a very cute pony.

Other events include: A service of thanksgiving on TV on the 10th June. It is also the Duke of Edinburgh’s 95th birthday on Friday June 10.

On Saturday June 11th it is the Queens official birthday and it will be celebrated with a military parade known as Trooping the Colour, which will be on TV at 10 am.

Then on Sunday 12th June there will be a Street party in Pall Mall near Buckingham palace.

2 Ukraine wins Eurovision Song Contest 2016

Ukraine's Jamala has won this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm in Sweden.

The UK's Joe and Jake had a disappointing night, coming third from the bottom with 62 points.

Ukraine came 1st with 534 points Australia came 2nd with 511 points. And Russia was 3rd with 491 points. Getting her trophy, she thanked Europe for their votes and said: "I really want peace and love to everyone."

New 12-sided £1 coins

A new £1 is being made, but will not be out until March 2017.

The £1 coin we use now will not be out of date as soon as the new ones are out. There will be six months when both the old and the new pound coins can be used.

The Royal Mint, who make all of our coins, say the new design will make pound coins harder to make fake copies.

3 Shakespeare celebrations

Even though Shakespeare lived a long time ago, he is still the country's best known playwright and wrote plays like 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.

Four hundred years after his death William Shakespeare is still one of the most fa- mous writers in the world.

Lots of special TV programmes and films are on to celebrate Shakespeare.

The Case Abilities group have been working hard on a Shakespeare topic and have written great spells and acted out scenes from plays including Macbeth.

4 Ronnie Corbett, best known for The Two Ronnies, dies aged 85

Corbett was one of the UK's best-loved comedians and along with Ronnie Barker, their double act was one of the best of the 1970s and 1980s.

Four candles is one of their best sketches, but they had lots other too, like The phantom raspberry blower of old London town and Mastermind.

In other news Police officers have found a big hole in a road. A police man said “They are looking into it”

Comedian, singer and writer Victoria Wood has died aged 62.

Victoria was best known for her BBC sketch Acorn Antiques and comedy Dinnerladies.

5 Leicester City

Leicester city are Premier League 2015/2016 champions.

The underdogs Leicester City were 5000/1 to win the league. af- ter doing the great escape last season.

Jamie Vardy is Leicester City top goal scorer with 47 goals.

Gary Lineker has said he has ‘no regrets’ about saying he will host Match of the Day in his underwear after Leicester’s title win. He started playing

Boxing

Boxing is improving all the time with newly crowned IBF Heavy weight Champion of the World A Joshua.

The 26-year-old knocked out Charles Martin in in just two rounds on April 9 to take the belt.

AJ will fight Dominic Breazeale at the O2 Arena in London on June 25th 2016.

If he wins it is possible the he could fight Tyson Fury in the next fight,

7 Hull FC 28 — Hull KR 16: Black and Whites Magic Weekend derby win Hull FC are top of the Super League. For Hull KR, a place in the top eight is out their grasp for now, but they have got better and the return of captain Terry Campese will offer some hope in the next few weeks.

The match kicks off at 5pm on Saturday, May 28 and will be on Sky Sports.

8 CASE celebrates Star Wars Day

It was a good day with lots of people wearing Star Wars t-shirts and a few even dressing up.

The Death star piñata was beaten and dark side defeated.

9 Rotary games 2016

On Sunday 17th April the Rotary games took place in Scunthorpe.

I took part in the rifle shooting, boccia and darts. I was in the semi- finals for boccia and darts. It was a good day and warm. By Carl Temple

10 Storm Troopers take charge on Britain's Got Talent

The dancing Stormtroopers from Britain’s Got Talent are a dance troupe from Liverpool – and they’re led by a firefighter.

Lee Seddon is the leader of the group.

They are The grand final of Britain's Got Talent is on Saturday May 28 at 7.10 pm.

The Garnett Family from Hornsea got into the live semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent.

They were on Monday’s show, but sadly didn’t make it through to the finals.

The new show will start Sunday May 29th at 8pm

There will also be a new behind-the-scenes show on after the main episode, called Extra Gear. It will be on the BBC Three website as well as on the BBC's iPlayer. 11
