He organised a Great Exhibition and invited people from all over the world to show off their latest inventions. The Crystal Palace was built to host the big event! The exhibition made lots of money. Albert used the money to turn part of London into a special place for art, music and science. He put his name on a lot of the buildings. If you go to South Kensington you can visit the Albert Memorial, the Royal Albert Hall and the Victoria & Albert Museum. The whole area was nicknamed… Albertopolis Prince Albert also wanted to make a university where students could become amazing musicians. It took a little while, but eventually the Royal College of Music was built. Hooray! Frederic needs to get to his music lesson, but he is lost in Albertopolis! Can you help him find his way to the Royal College of Music? LET’S COLOUR! Famous RCM composers! Composers write music for musicians to play. They can imagine new tunes and harmonies in their heads. Isn’t that clever? Ralph Vaughan Williams was a student at the RCM and later went back there to teach. He wrote beautiful music that was often about nature. Have a listen to his piece called The Lark Ascending. While you listen, close your eyes and imagine you can see that skylark (bird) soaring up and down in the sky. Gustav Holst also studied at the RCM. He’s best known for writing a series of pieces called The Planets. Listen to Mars, the Bringer of War. It sounds like soldiers marching into battle. ENCORE!
