& Shout All-Stars Team Information Packet Edmond 2016-2017

COMMITMENT Twist & Shout is the top cheer gym in Oklahoma and one of the top all-star programs in the nation. Our gym and training program has proven itself at many regional, national and world competitions. Each year since 1996, we have increased in enrollment and achievements. This is due to the unbelievable commitment from previous and current team members, their families and the T&S staff. In order to continue the success of this program, T&S expects the same level of commitment from its future team members, families and coaches.

Summer practices are very important to the improvement of skills & are required. Please make every effort to be at all practices. . The Twist & Shout logo is a nationally trademarked logo. Therefore, any use of the name “Twist & Shout” and/or the interlocking “T&S” must be approved in writing by the CEO, Orson Sykes, or the CFO, Marketia Sykes. It is our desire to protect the reputation of the gym and the integrity of our logo. . All choreography (including cheers, dances, stunts, transitions, tumbling, music, etc.) should not be shared or discussed with others. No videos of routines/choreography should be uploaded to any online site such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Fierceboard, etc. . If a T&S athlete has a Facebook, Twitter, and/or any other social media account, it must be maintained with proper integrity at all times. If any athlete’s social media accounts are not maintained with proper integrity on photos, status updates and general comments it will be grounds for termination from the program. This rule also applies to parents. If anyone makes negative or hateful comments on social media about the gym, coaching staff, or athletes it will be grounds for dismissal. . The charge for this is included in your monthly dues. Please get a copy of your athlete’s birth certificate ready to turn into the front desk immediately following team placement.

TEAMS The T&S team members are chosen carefully, and the staff desires for each team to excel in every aspect of cheerleading. Each T&S location’s Booster Clubs are independent, so fees may differ. The Booster Club provides fundraisers throughout the year, helps with the end of the year banquet, provides camp & nationals gifts and does many wonderful things for the T&S staff and cheerleaders throughout the year.

CONTRACT BUY OUT Our team program requires a huge commitment from each and every team member, their parents, and our coaches. To help ensure this level of dedication, we have implemented a contract buy out policy that will go into effect starting June 13, 2016. Each All-Star/Family signs an agreement committing to a 1 year contract. In the event that an All-Star quits their team for any reason after June 15, 2016 their account will continue to be charged each month remaining or the contract can be bought out for $500. This does not apply to anyone who moves out of state or has a season- ending injury. A season ending injury is defined as not being able to participate in any element of All-Star cheer. Proper documentation must be provided for anyone moving out of state. If you are no longer going to be a member of Twist & Shout you must submit a 30 day notice in writing.

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS If you or your child have any concerns please discuss them with owner, Orson Sykes, or the All-Star Director by setting up an appointment to discuss the problem outside of class or team practice. It is never beneficial to complain or to disagree among the team members and/or parents. T&S understands that team members and/or parents do not always agree with decisions made by the staff, but please respect the fact that each decision is made with careful consideration and made to benefit the entire T&S program.

The Twist & Shout commitment to you is to work to be as organized as possible and to be committed to the development of your child. We strive for each child to excel and have the best possible experience & memories from his/her years at T&S. The coaches & staff members at T&S strive to be good examples to each child, and we hope they are someone that your child could turn to for encouragement, compassion and correction.

COMPETITION SEASON INFORMATION TRAVEL: Travel arrangements are the parent’s responsibility. The only travel that is subject to being booked by T&S is accommodations and/or airfare for Worlds teams. Airfare for worlds will only be booked by T&S if a full paid bid is received. Travel attire should always be T&S apparel.

HOTEL BLOCK: Prior to the start of competition season we will email out our hotel block information. • It is required that you book your reservations within our hotel block (unless staying with family). Most event producers have a “stay to play” policy they strictly enforce which requires us to stay at their provided hotels. • For some blocks there will be multiple hotel options – pick whichever you prefer. • Hotel blocks are typically only provided for out of town/state 2 day competitions. Staying within the block is not required for 2 day in-state competitions but is set up as a courtesy for those who are interested in this option. • Reservations should be made ASAP once the hotel information is made available to ensure enough rooms are in the block for all our families. There are booking deadlines to every block & reservations are first come, first serve.

OUT OF STATE COMPETITIONS: For all out of state competitions you are required to travel the day before the competition starts (typically Friday). We want to avoid our athletes sitting in a car for a long period, or traveling of any kind, the same day they compete. Some competitions and awards ceremonies last until later in the evening, especially for 2 day nationals. There might be some competitions that you want to plan on staying an extra night instead of driving/flying home late. Attending Awards is always required.

Please understand that when we go out of state to compete we are there to compete – This being said, team practices come first and your travel arrangements should reflect that. Do not make arrangements to leave town earlier than your cheerleader’s practice schedule allows - Even if your team is not regularly scheduled to practice on a certain night, an extra practice could be called and will be mandatory.

Below is a list of out of state competitions that we have attended in the past that you might see on your competition schedule for the 2016-2017 season. This is not a complete or accurate competition schedule for this season, but if you see any of these events on your competition schedule please make note of the required travel information and keep this in mind when planning your weekend as well as for school absences. You will receive an email when these items are available. TEAM MOMS: Each team will have team moms that will be a huge help to their team! They are selected by the staff, not nominated or volunteered. They will be communicating with you throughout the year on team events, and most importantly for cheerleader meet/pickup locations & times at competitions. We will provide them with your contact information that we have from the Team Agreement Form – please keep up updated with this information. PARENT REMINDERS: • Be respectful to parents from other gyms! • Be respectful to other parents from Twist & Shout! We have several locations now and it’s important to remember that we are ONE BIG GYM/FAMILY supporting each other. • There will be times where it is unavoidable to keep our T&S teams from competing against each other in some divisions. When this happens PLEASE show support for ALL T&S teams and let’s all be good examples of SPORTMANSHIP to the cheerleaders! • Make noise for ALL Twist & Shout teams – not just your own child’s team. Crowd support goes a long way!! • Arrive early to competitions in order to get a good seat! Sit together with other T&S families – it’s much louder! • Wear T&S colors/gear to competitions. • Pack a good attitude! Usually competitions will be very crowded and can create stressful situations, and they can often run later than the schedule predicts. Please help by keeping a good attitude.

GENERAL INFORMATION: • All competitions are required. • Absolutely NO ABSENCES 2 weeks prior to any competition – This includes college clinics and visits. • Team members must always stay for awards. • At all competitions/nationals (with the exception of NCA Nationals) the trophy will go home to the top performer of the day on each team. This is voted on by the coaches. Please be prepared for this. • Hotel Behavior – Please keep an eye on your cheerleader and don’t let them run around the hotel unsupervised. Please be respectful to others staying at our hotel. No swimming before any competition & make sure your cheerleader goes to bed at a reasonable hour. Remember that we are there to compete! • Extra practices could be called during a 2 day national event – so please be flexible with your schedule. • Be on time to all competitions!

TWIST & SHOUT MEMBER LOGO POLICY

The Twist and Shout (T&S) is a nationally trade marked logo that was established in 1996. It has become on of the most recognizable logos in the All-star industry. With the growing success of our program we’ve noticed that our logo has been used repeatedly locally and nationally without the proper authorization. It is not our intention to be dogmatic or obsessive about the use our logo however it is important to our organization that we control how our logo is being used locally and nationally. It is also important to us that we are being properly compensated for such use. Therefore a NEW logo policy is now being established. Everyone must have written approval and follow the proper guidelines in order to use the T&S logo on ANY apparel or promotional item.

Points of the Logo Policy: 1)The Booster Club will be given approval for use of the logo to put on one piece of Apparel. The Booster club will be charged a licensing fee for each item of apparel that is to be sold.

2) Any one that wishes to use the T&S logo, the words Twist and Shout, Shouter, Shouters, Shouterville and/or the use of any team name that is being used at Twist and Shout will need written approval from Orson Sykes. Upon written approval there will be a $10 licensing fee charged for each item that is printed. Example A: If someone had a old jacket that they want to put a T&S logo on. They would need to get written approval from Orson Sykes first and then they would be charged $10. Example B: If a parent wanted to do a shirt for 10 other parents on his/her team. The individual would need to get written approval from Orson Sykes and they would be charged a $100 ($10 x 10) licensing fee for each item printed/sold.

3) For any use of the logo that is printed for items that will be given as a "team gift" to the athletes on a team written approval from Orson Sykes is required however there will be no licensing fee accessed. Example A: A group of parents would like to do a T-shirt using the T&S logo and issue each child on the "Diamonds" team a shirt. The parents would need to get written approval from Orson Sykes. There would be no licensing fee charged. Example B: A group of parents would like to do a T-shirt using the T&S logo and issue each child on the "Obsession" team the shirt in addition 5 parents would like to purchase the T- shirt to wear at competitions. The parents would need to get written approval for the use of the logo from Orson Sykes and they would be charged a licensing fee of $50 ($10 x 5) for the 5 parents who purchased the shirt.
