  • Bright Tunes Music V. Harrisongs Music
420 F.Supp. 177 United States District Court, S. D. New York. BRIGHT TUNES MUSIC CORP., Plaintiff, v. HARRISONGS MUSIC, LTD., et al., Defendants. No. 7 1 Civ. 602. | Aug. 31, 1976. | As Amended Sept. 1, 1976. OPINION AND ORDER OWEN, District Judge. This is an action in which it is claimed that a successful song, My Sweet Lord, listing George Harrison as the composer, is plagiarized from an earlier successful song, He’s So Fine, composed by Ronald Mack, recorded by a singing group called the “Chiffons,” the copyright of which is owned by plaintiff, Bright Tunes Music Corp. He’s So Fine, recorded in 1962, is a catchy tune consisting essentially of four repetitions of a very short basic musical phrase, “sol-mi-re,” (hereinafter motif A),1 altered as necessary to fit the words, followed by four repetitions of another short basic musical phrase, “sol-la-do-la-do,” (hereinafter motif B).2 While neither motif is novel, the four repetitions of A, followed by four repetitions of B, is a highly unique pattern.3 In addition, in the second use of the motif B series, there is a grace note inserted making the phrase go “sol-la-do-la-re-do.”4 My Sweet Lord, recorded first in 1970, also uses the same motif A (modified to suit the words) four times, followed by motif B, repeated three times, not four. In place of He’s So Fine’s fourth repetition of motif B, My Sweet Lord has a transitional passage of musical attractiveness of the same approximate length, with the identical grace note in the identical second repetition.5 The harmonies of both songs are identical.6 *179 George Harrison, a former member of The Beatles, was aware of He’s So Fine.

  • Midnight Special Songlist
west coast music Midnight Special Please find attached the Midnight Special song list for your review. SPECIAL DANCES for Weddings: Please note that we will need your special dance requests, (I.E. First Dance, Father/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son Dance etc) FOUR WEEKS in advance prior to your event so that we can confirm that the band will be able to perform the song(s) and that we are able to locate sheet music. In some cases where sheet music is not available or an arrangement for the full band is need- ed, this gives us the time needed to properly prepare the music and learn the material. Clients are not obligated to send in a list of general song requests. Many of our clients ask that the band just react to whatever their guests are responding to on the dance floor. Our clients that do provide us with song requests do so in varying degrees. Most clients give us a handful of songs they want played and avoided. Recently, we’ve noticed in increase in cli- ents customizing what the band plays and doesn’t play with very specific detail. If you de- sire the highest degree of control (allowing the band to only play within the margin of songs requested), we ask for a minimum of 100 requests. We want you to keep in mind that the band is quite good at reading the room and choosing songs that best connect with your guests. The more specific/selective you are, know that there is greater chance of losing certain song medleys, mashups, or newly released material the band has.

  • Billy Preston
Billy Preston Billy Preston was a soul singer and pianist who, in addition to having a successful solo career, collaborated with some of the greatest names in the music industry, including the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Little Richard, Ray Charles, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, Sammy Davis Jr., Sly Stone, Aretha Franklin, the Jackson 5, Quincy Jones, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Often called “the Fifth Beatle,” this former child prodigy left one of the most profound and prolific legacies in music. William Everett Preston was born in Houston, Texas in 1946. He began playing piano at age three, and by ten he had joined the band of gospel great Mahalia Jackson. At age twelve he appeared in the 1958 film St. Louis Blues, portraying blues composer W.C. Handy as a young man. In the 1960s Preston performed with Little Richard and Ray Charles, and became a regular singer and pianist on the ABC television series Shindig. Preston went on to a successful career as a session musician, including lending his talents to the Beatle’s Let It Be album. That collaboration led to his signing to the Beatles’ Apple label, and in 1969 his solo effort, produced by George Harrison, was released. The album That's the Way God Planned It and the single of the same name met with limited success, but in 1972 he released an instrumental funk single, "Outa-Space," that reached #2 in the U.S. and won the Grammy award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Over the next two years, Preston enjoyed more number one hits including "Will It Go Round In Circles" and "Nothing From Nothing." He was the first guest musical artist on the premier episode of the popular TV show Saturday Night Live.

  • Songs of the Vietnam War Lyrics
The Limits of Power: The United States in Vietnam Name:______________________________________________ 2 Online Lesson Songs of the Vietnam War Lyrics Introduction: Throughout history, the strong feelings raised by the sacrifices, ideals, heartbreaks, and triumphs of war have often been expressed by poets and artists in songs. Songs that best cap- tured the strong feelings of Americans became very popular and lived on long after the details of the conflict were forgotten. Whether they expressed patriotism and national ideals such as inThe Star-Spangled Banner and The Battle Hymn of the Republic, sacrifice and heroism such as inWhen Johnny Comes Marching Home, or disappointment and loss such as All Quiet Along the Potomac Tonight, these songs have become part of the history. The Vietnam War was no exception. Below is a small selection of the many songs written by Americans, Vietnamese, and French about the Vietnam War. Lyndon Johnson Told the Nation By Tom Paxton (1965, folk) < http://youtu.be/JQqapCkf4Uc> I got a letter from L.B.J., it said, “This is your lucky day. It’s time to put your khaki trousers on. Though it may seem very queer, we’ve got no jobs to give you here, so we are sending you to Viet Nam” chorus And Lyndon Johnson told the nation, “Have no fear of escalation, I am trying ev’ryone to please. Though it isn’t really war, we’re sending fifty thousand more to help save Viet Nam from Viet Namese.” I jumped off the old troop ship, I sank in mud up to my hips, And cussed until the captain called me down, “never mind how hard it’s raining, Think of all the ground we’re gaining, just don’t take one step outside of town.” Every night the local gentry slip out past the sleeping sentry They go out to join the old V.C.

  • PK 2 Hamburg Beatles History.Pdf (253.4
MEDIA INFORMATION NO HAMBURG, NO BEATLES: THE HISTORY OF THE FAB FOUR IN HAMBURG From the evolution of the Hamburg Sound to today’s club scene On 17 August 1960, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best played their first gig at the Indra Club in the legendary St Pauli district of Hamburg. Mark Lewisohn, the acclaimed Beatles author, aptly commented “No Hamburg, no Beatles”. The Beatles, some of whom were still minors in the beginning, spent two years in Hamburg, with only a few breaks in between. Here, they laid the foundations for their global career. Following their debut in 1960, the Beatles played in Hamburg more often than anywhere else in the world – with 300 concerts, five contracts with four different music clubs, and about 1,200 hours spent on Hamburg stages. John Lennon once said “I grew up in Liverpool but I came of age in Hamburg”, and this is arguably the story of the Beatles in Hamburg in a nutshell. It all began with a shock. When The Beatles got their first engagement in Hamburg on the 17th of August 1960, they where full of anticipation. The Hanseatic City was considered to be the perfect place to make good money by giging. And the Reeperbahn was the incarnation of adventure for those naive from Liverpool. Where nowadays countless cutting-edge music clubs line the neon bright streets, back in the day, the audience craved for all night entertainment – especially for exciting music, such as Rock‘n‘Roll and it‘s British exports.
