The Effect of the Beatles on Society
The Effect of the Beatles on Society Written by: Larry Coffey Date: 26 March 1981 The Effect of the Beatles on Society In June of 1956, John Lennon met Paul McCartney for the first time. Nobody ever dreamed that John and Paul would have the success that they had. John Lennon and Paul McCartney along with George Harrison and Richard Starkey (Ringo Starr) became known as the greatest and the most influential rock musicians in the world. The Beatles, whose music has been played by prestigious symphonies around the world and has been sung by renowned singers such as Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett, were a vibrant moving force of the 1960’s; they permanently changed the course of music and soundly influenced the lives of future generations. To get an idea of how much the Beatles helped shape the following generations’ lifestyles, one must look at the lifestyle and the music before the Beatles. The music the Beatles played, “Rock and Roll,” had already established itself as a popular form of music to American teenagers. Derived from the black’s “Rhythm and Blues,” rock and roll was made popular by performers such as Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, and Bill Haley. Though rock and roll had been around for about ten years before the Beatles became famous, it was still a relatively new form of music that had plenty of potential. The Beatles were elevated from obscurity by utilizing the music’s potential. The lifestyle of the fifties was slowly changing. The American public was beginning to accept the possibility of a “working class hero”. -
Beyond the Black Are Most Certainly That. You're in Doubt?
Lost in Forever - LIVE Stratospheric? Beyond The Black are most certainly that. You’re in doubt? Let’s explain… …Only two years ago, dynamic frontwoman and world-class vocalist Jennifer Haben and her band colleagues celebrated their live debut on stage at the legendary Wacken Open Air 2014. A few months later they were supporting the legendary SAXON on their UK tour. On February 13th 2015 the band released their debut full-length album Songs of Love and Death, which hit the German top 20 album charts, and which was produced by melodic metal maestro Sascha Paeth (Avantasia, Edguy, Epica, Kamelot, Rhapsody). You’ve probably already guessed that the album was royally received throughout Europe, with Haben establishing herself as one of the leading voices in hard rock and metal music. Beyond The Black continued to conquer the road. They played their own headliner tour in spring and autumn 2015, and featured at several of Germany’s biggest rock & metal- festivals. Momentum is beautiful thing; Beyond The Black supported Queensrÿche in Holland and Within Temptation in Switzerland, and their incredible ascent culminated in them receiving the “Best Debut Album 2015” Metal Hammer Award.

Exploring the Chinese Metal Scene in Contemporary Chinese Society (1996-2015)
"THE SCREAMING SUCCESSOR": EXPLORING THE CHINESE METAL SCENE IN CONTEMPORARY CHINESE SOCIETY (1996-2015) Yu Zheng A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS December 2016 Committee: Jeremy Wallach, Advisor Esther Clinton Kristen Rudisill © 2016 Yu Zheng All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Jeremy Wallach, Advisor This research project explores the characteristics and the trajectory of metal development in China and examines how various factors have influenced the localization of this music scene. I examine three significant roles – musicians, audiences, and mediators, and focus on the interaction between the localized Chinese metal scene and metal globalization. This thesis project uses multiple methods, including textual analysis, observation, surveys, and in-depth interviews. In this thesis, I illustrate an image of the Chinese metal scene, present the characteristics and the development of metal musicians, fans, and mediators in China, discuss their contributions to scene’s construction, and analyze various internal and external factors that influence the localization of metal in China. After that, I argue that the development and the localization of the metal scene in China goes through three stages, the emerging stage (1988-1996), the underground stage (1997-2005), the indie stage (2006-present), with Chinese characteristics. And, this localized trajectory is influenced by the accessibility of metal resources, the rapid economic growth, urbanization, and the progress of modernization in China, and the overall development of cultural industry and international cultural communication. iv For Yisheng and our unborn baby! v ACKNOWLEDGMENTS First of all, I would like to show my deepest gratitude to my advisor, Dr.
