PASSENGER TRAIN NUMBER 35 MILE 23.57, CANADIAN NATIONAL KINGSTON SUBDIVISION PINCOURT/TERRASSE-VAUDREUIL, QUEBEC 17 DECEMBER 2007 The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) investigated this occurrence for the purpose of advancing transportation safety. Passenger Train Number 35 Mile 23.57, Canadian National Kingston Subdivision Pincourt/Terrasse-Vaudreuil, Quebec 17 December 2007 Report Number R07D0111 Synopsis On 17 December 2007, at approximately 1549 eastern standard time, VIA Rail Canada Inc. passenger train No. 35, travelling westward at 62 mph on the south main track of Canadian National’s Kingston Subdivision, struck an empty tractor-trailer that was immobilized on the 3e Avenue level public crossing located at Mile 23.57, near Pincourt/Terrasse-Vaudreuil, Quebec. The tractor-trailer was destroyed; the locomotive was damaged and was unable to continue. Subsequently, 76 passengers were transferred to another VIA Rail Canada Inc. train and rail traffic was delayed for up to 3 ½ hours. The truck driver sustained minor injuries. New CN Power: The following new SD70M-2 sightings came from several CRO readers this month: On January 14th, CN Intermodal 194 (which is a very lucrative UPS contracted train and operates between Chicago-Memphis-Jackson-New Orleans), departed Markham with brand new CN 8853, CN 5513, CN 9543, 150 cars, 7141 tons and 9845-feet of train. On January 13th at Chappel Jct, (near Saskatoon, SK), CN 104 had CN 8865 leading. On January 13th, CN 198 had CN 8855-2643 for power at Chappel Jct. January 11th, CN train Q120 with 2525-5698 and new CN SD70M-2 8863 with 9823-feet of train at 8767 tons enroute to Halifax, NS and arrived on the 12th. While on the Montmagny Subdivision, SD70M-2 8863 reportedly had a minor mechanical issue that was resolved while in transit. -

Railway Investigation Report R16T0162 Main-track train collision and derailment Canadian Pacific Railway Freight trains 235-21 and 118-18 Mile 3.3, North Toronto Subdivision Toronto, Ontario 21 August 2016 Summary On 21 August 2016, at approximately 0517 Eastern Daylight Time, Canadian Pacific Railway freight train 118-18 was crossing from the north to the south track at approximately Mile 3.3 on the North Toronto Subdivision in Toronto, Ontario. Freight train 235-21, proceeding westward with 2 locomotives only, collided with the tail end of train 118-18. Four of train 118-18’s intermodal cars (10 platforms) were struck and damaged. -

Bob Lemieux – London, on Via Rail Fares Are Still Too High Even On
Bob Lemieux – Via Rail fares are still too high even on super saver. Via needs to London, ON understand that especially in areas like the corridor, it is competing with the automobile and the price of gasoline. For example, 2 people in coach seats would travel from London to Ottawa round trip for $537.88 (best price). My car can be filled with gasoline for $80.00 and would require 2.5 fill ups to Ottawa and back which equals $200.00; that is a big difference and impacts choice of transportation modes especially for tourists. Via needs to come up with “family” fares to help it compete in this regard. Answer Price is an important factor for many travelers, and VIA regularly introduces seat sales and new reduced fare options, including on-line Express Deals. And as of June 1st, we will be offering a brand new Escape fare that will provide an even better discounted option on many popular routes out of London and other major destinations. We also offer special discounts for children, youth and seniors. We will definitely take a look at your suggestion for Family Fares. Bob Lemieux – I am encouraged by the addition of more trains out of Ottawa to Montreal, London, ON Ottawa to Toronto as well as on the Montreal-Toronto route. However, as a London resident, when will we see more frequencies from Toronto to Windsor and can we expect to get Renaissance equipment on this route in the future? Many people I know continue to use the Greyhound bus because there is not a convenient frequency of Via trains; the market is huge in southwestern Ontario! Answer Southwestern Ontario is an important travel market for VIA, and we are aware that frequency is an important factor for travelers when it comes to making a choice of travel mode.
