100 Years of Anne Girl Guides of Canada Challenge Information for Girl Guide Leaders What Guide doesn’t believe herself to be a kindred spirit to Anne Shirley of Anne of Green Gables? Anne probably would have been a Guider herself, if only her book weren’t published two years before Girl Guides began in 1910. She shares with all Guides a sense of adventure, intelligence, a love of reading and drama, kindness and creativity, and a concern for community. The 100 Years of Anne Girl Guides of Canada Challenge gives girls the chance to remember the importance and power of friendship and kindred spirits; the opportunity to engage with their parents, grandparents, and/or other older members of the community by showing an interest in activities from an earlier age; an opportunity to express their creativity, demonstrate their sense of adventure and confidence, and develop their cooking skills; an opportunity to contribute to a community event that embraces all ages and all skill sets; and the opportunity to discover (or rediscover!) the joys of Anne of Green Gables. Challenge Requirements To complete the challenge and earn the 100 Years of Anne Girl Guides of Canada crest, get your unit to plan a recital, inviting members of your community to participate. At the recital (or in preparation for the recital), Sparks and Brownies should complete 2 of 5 activities; Guides should complete 3 of 5 activities; and Pathfinders and Senior Branches should complete, or help younger girls complete, 4 of 5 activities. These activities are on top of the preparations for the recital.
