Mayor’s Corner Special Edition 2019 I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and had the opportunity to spend time with family and friends. Please join me, along with the Chamber of Commerce, City staff, City council, on Sunday, December 8th from 4:30 – 6:30 pm at the City park for the annual lighting ceremony. We will be joined by a special visit from Santa Claus, the Lawson high school choir, and celebrities from the Kansas City Chiefs to help light up our city. You will have an opportunity to meet and get autographs from the player’s below. Trent Bryant College: University of Arkansas- Started as a freshman running back in the 1978 Orange Bowl Vs Oklahoma, we won 31-6, Fiesta Bowl- 1978, Sugar Bowl-1980, Hall of Fame Classic, 1980 -Started at corner back last three years at Arkansas. Married to his wife Robin for 34 years, they have a son Trey that lives in Austin, Texas. All SWC-DB – 1979, Kansas City Chiefs Ambassador, drafted by the Baltimore Colts – 1981, Played with Washington Redskins – 1981, Kansas Chiefs – 1982, 1983 & 1987, USFL – Chicago Blitz’s – 1984, USFL – Arizona Outlaws – 1985, CFL – Saskatchewan Roughriders – 1986, 1987 Anthony Davis Anthony Davis is a former linebacker in the National Football League who played from 1993–2000. He played college football at the University of Utah. He spent 9 years playing football in the NFL and retired from the league on top in 2001 after winning Super Bowl XXXV with the Baltimore Ravens. He returned to Kansas City to give back and raise his family. In 2008, Anthony joined the coaching staff at MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas to coach the linebackers. Anthony enjoys supporting local charities - Big Brothers Big Sisters, Ronald McDonald House and Building Hope for Autism and is currently a Chiefs Ambassador. Ted McKnight Theodore "Touchdown Teddy" Robert McKnight is a former professional American football running back in the NFL for the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills. He played college football at the University of Minnesota Duluth and is one of six players to attend Minnesota-Duluth and play in the NFL. McKnight was drafted in the second round by the Oakland Raiders. Picked up by Kansas City, he led the Chiefs in rushing in 1978, 1979, 1980. In 1978 McKnight led the NFL with a Chiefs record 6.0 yards per carry. He finished his NFL career with 2,344 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns. His longest run 84 yards in 1979 is still a Chiefs record. McKnight also caught 99 passes out of the backfield. Finished with 3499 career all-purpose yards. This will be a fun-filled evening for all family members and our community to enjoy. I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday evening at the City Park. Ghosts of the Past © the second expansion for Rogue Football League © This expansion is designed to give players of Rogue Football League some historical scenarios. This is an opportunity to see if sports history could have been different. It is necessary to have the Foreign Fields expansion to play Ghosts of the Past. Included in Ghosts of the Past are the following scenarios: • World Football League 1974 – 12 franchises, lots of veteran players available and a 20- game schedule; can you compete with the other league head-to-head in the fall? • United States Football League 1983 – 12 franchises along with a TV contract and a spring schedule; will America buy into a spring football league? • United States Football League 1986 – in this what-if scenario, Donald Trump’s ego has shrunk the league to eight teams and put it head-to-head with the other league. The other league seems to be on the edge of a players’ strike; can you push the older league into accepting some or all of your league as expansion franchises, or will the USFL have to finally throw in the towel after losing its anti-trust lawsuit? • World League of American Football 1991 – spring football is back with ten teams and this time, the other league is backing it. The bad news is you won’t be getting many big names. Can spring football survive in Europe and Canada? Most of the rules from Rogue Football League apply, even though the scenarios may play out ahistorically. That said, each scenario has “flavor rules” to give the feel of the situation, while still allowing player decisions to shape the outcome rather than being locked into the historical outcome (which has always been bad).
