    Any night of the week at either of the two Paymon’s Mediterranean Cafés, the hookah lounges are full of men and women, college students, couples on dates and other people of all ethnicities. They may be relaxing after a long work day, preparing for a night out on the town or simply hanging out with friends. Beer, wine and cocktails are served. Exotic dishes such as hummus and falafel—and of course, Athen’s fries—are on the tables. Also present are works of art: cut-glass water jars topped by bowls from which emanate delicious scents including mint, chocolate and fruit. It’s all part of the hookah experience, and the same scene is played out in Las Vegas’ other hookah lounges: Azuza Hookah & Fine Teas, Town Square’s Nu Sanctuary Lounge, Maharaja Hookah Café in the Fremont East Entertainment District, Almaza Hookah Lounge Restaurant and countless others. It is an attempt to identify Hookah Coffeehouse, a coffeehouse which is located near Cleveland State Campus in Ohio, as a third place that become part of the Cleveland State University international students cultural landscape and to shed light on its role in fostering social life among them. Hookah as an illustrative case, this report presents and analyzes the social, spatial, and cultural aspects that create a third place for international students at Cleveland State University. The paper shows how these social aspects change private space to become public place. The conclusions point to the dynamic and the elastic nature of social places as expressed in specific cultural contexts of the international students who are studying and living in Cleveland.
