G. Nicolae Ceau’escu was the General Secretary of the Romanian Communist Party from 1965 to 1989 and he was also the head of the state from 1967 to 1989. His regime was an oppressive one. When he was in power, people and the media had minimum freedom of expression and no manifestation of dissidence was left unpunished. The whole state was under the constant surveillance of his brutal secret police force—the Securitate—and their undercover agents. Many of the novels of Romanian-born German writer Herta Müller are set in the oppressive regime of Nicolae Ceau’escu and her dissident novels are alternative histories of Romania—histories written not from the centre but from the periphery as Müller often adopts the perspective of the German minority in Romania. Müller has suffered severely under the abusive power of the Securitate and therefore her novels can be aptly termed “autofiction” as she herself calls them. Herta Müller’s most popular novel The Land of Green Plums is set against the backdrop of the suffocating regime and it vividly portrays the impact of the all-pervading oppressive power on human beings. In the novel, overwhelming fear is the blatant emotion of the citizens of the totalitarian regime and the members of the Securitate are always vigilant to add to the fear by subjecting rebels to frequent interrogations and intimidations. The study is an attempt to analyse Herta Müller’s subversive re-presentation of Ceau’escu’s Romania in The Land of Green Plums. The Land of Green Plums is set in Romania in the 1980s and it recounts the trauma of living in an oppressive totalitarian regime. In the 1970s and 1980s Ceau’escu intensified and ramified his power to strengthen the disciplinary mechanism of the state. To keep his control over the state and the people intact, he empowered

More relevant for us are the family—immediate and extended—with its hold over loyalties of its members, a deeply hierarchic society stratified by caste and class, and persistent conflicts over religion, language, ethnicity and other differences. Studied here are two novels, both translated from Malayalam-one 4“Fire, Mv Witness” called ‘Agnisakshi in Malayalam, written by Lalithambika Antharjanam, and ‘The Scent of the Other Side’ called Othappu’ in Malayalam, written by Sarah Joseph. The first one was published in 1975 and the second one in 2005. This paper traces the trajectory of feminist ideals over the span of 35 years and concludes that women have always tried to grapple with the question of women’s subjectivity and agency. They have been victims of patriarchal systems and are partial collaborators. Women sometimes wear the marks of their subordination and their inferiority with pride. Devaki in Fire, My Witness and Margalitha in The Scent of the Other Side are the two characters studied to work out a conclusion. The Indian woman has indeed achieved success in half a century of independence, but if there is to be a truly female empowerment, much remains to be done.

The Crisis Management Plan is designed to assist Crowd Management and Emergency Operations and creation of a system for protection of life and property in the event of a natural, manmade or hybrid hazard requiring emergency activation. The Crisis Management Plan provides guidance for all line departments in order to minimize threats to life and property. 1.2 SCOPE Crisis Management Plan covers all phases of crisis management right from mitigation, preparedness, emergency response, relief to recovery. The plan discusses roles and responsibilities of each stakeholder and should be used as a guide by all the concerned line departments to prepare their respective department to play these critical roles and responsibilities. 1.3 OBJECTIVE To protect the life of people who have assembled for the event and to avoid confusion among major stakeholders during emergency and to develop a basic structure for time sensitive, safe, secure, orderly and efficiently handling the crisis.
