Logan Lake, BC Community Profile Logan Lake, BC Community Profile Welcome to Our Home On behalf of the citizens of Logan Lake, welcome to our great community! We are well known for our diversity in outdoor recreation, and I invite you to join us for some of the many events that we host throughout the year. Participate in the Polar Carnival, Pond Hockey, Community Garage Sale, Car Show, or Logan Lake Day. Enjoy our endless trail systems, fish our numerous lakes, tee off at our challenging Golf Course, or stay awhile in our new, fully serviced, lakeside campground with free WIFI. Or, simply enjoy the solitude of Logan Lake. We are a young community built to accommodate the vast mining activity in the area. As a carefully planned community, we focus on families and access to green spaces and parks. We are home to one of the largest mining operations in the world with Teck’s Highland Valley Copper situated within the boundaries of the District of Logan Lake. The viewpoint is well worth the 20-minute drive. We highly recommend you seize the opportunity to take a seasonal tour and experience the sheer magnitude of the operation. You will be impressed as you watch the movement of massive amounts of earth and learn about their sustainable practices. We are a growing and friendly community located in the heart of the Highland Valley. Local communities such as Kamloops, Merritt, Ashcroft, Cache Creek and Savona are all located within an hour’s drive. The Okanagan Valley is just two hours away, and the Greater Vancouver area is a quick three-hour drive. Our central location in the southern interior allows ease of travel in all directions throughout the Province. Check out our Events Calendar and mark your calendars for our many seasonal events. Be sure to ask about our business incentive programs, our new residential and commercial developments, and our strategic plans for the future! We are a small community with a big heart and we invite you to Discover our Nature! Mining in the early years was a rough, labour intensive job. Copper ore had to be hauled over steep, dirt, cattle trails by horse drawn wagons, through the Highland Valley, then out to Ashcroft and beyond. By the mid 1960’s, technology began improving mining in the valley and with mining excavation came the swift construction of the community of Logan Lake. Excavation for underground utility services and surveying for housing began during the summer of 1970. Home construction for the Lornex Mine workers and their families started in early winter. While the community was being erected, the Province appointed John Aldrich of Lornex as Mayor and in 1970 the Village of Logan Lake was incorporated. Logan Lake was constructed for convenience, economy and easy access, with community services in one compact area. The municipal building was erected next door to the fire hall and R.C.M.P. detachment, with health services just across the street. Retail shops and a library were added to the walkable downtown core. The community is within walking distance to the lake itself with its excellent fishing and boating. While the mine in Highland Valley continues to provide valuable ore, it also laid the foundation for the birth and growth of a community. Today, many families still live and work in the beautifully situated, District of Logan Lake. LOGAN LAKE | Community Profile 5 Demographics Population The regional population has been steadily increasing over the past ten years and while Logan Lake has experienced a population decline there is an opportunity for reversing the trend. The Highland Valley Copper Mine is expanding operations and there is a pending announcement for the new Ajax Mine in close proximity to the community. Logan Lake is extremely well placed to attract new residents and families.
