Additionally, Alfred Music supplied the rights to six songs for guitar mass appeal events booklet that was distributed to over 5,000 participants nationwide. Alfred Music joined other NAMM members for the NAMM Music Education Advocacy D.C. Fly-In, May 22-24, 2017. Alfred Music was proud to participate in this annual event that advocates for access to quality music education programs for all children. During Music in Our Schools Month, Alfred Music was proud to support Heid Music’s Big 10 contest by donating $250 worth of band scores to the winning schools. Alfred Music continues to donate hundreds of copies guitar materials to GAMA (The Guitar & Accessories Marketing Association), for their summer workshops. These workshops teach music educators how to start or enhance classroom guitar programs and deliver more music making opportunities to children. Alfred Music, in collaboration with The ASCAP Foundation, will deliver more than $26,000 of music curriculum and performance music to more than 50 school ensembles across the United States, in support of the VH1 Save The Music Foundation this fall. Neal, Thesis Advisor Dr. Allen Anderson, Reader Dr. Andrea Bohlman, Reader © 2016 Mason Taylor Allen ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii ABSTRACT Mason Taylor Allen: The Musical Features of 2015’s Top-Ranked Country Songs Under the direction of Dr. Jocelyn R. Neal The 2015 top-ten country songs analyzed in this study are characterized by the various formats of their song form, harmonies, and lyrics. This thesis presents a comprehensive study of the structure and narratives in sixty-seven songs that summarizes the distinctive features within those domains of contemporary commercial country music. A detailed description of the norm along with identifiable trends emerges. The song form that features most prominently in this repertory includes a verse-chorus-bridge form with three iterations of the chorus, an intro and outro section, and instrumental sections immediately following each chorus. The top-ten country songs have varying degrees of departure from this typical model. Primary features of the harmonies of these top songs include the frequent use of a double-tonic complex, the absence of a 5-1 authentic cadence, the same chord progression throughout the verse, chorus, and bridge, and the use of only two chords throughout the song. Lyrical analyses show that 2015 songs are continuing the traditional themes about romantic attraction, love, heartache, good times and partying, home, family, nostalgia, religion, and inspiration, within the context of small-town country life that this genre has used for years.

    November 3, 2014, Issue 421 Old Milwaukee’s Best: WMIL There aren’t many Country radio stations that pull numbers like iHeartMedia’s WMIL/Milwaukee. The August 2014 PPM saw the 30-year heritage station post its best ratings yet when it went 11.9 Persons 6+ with a weekly cume of 510,800. September was almost as good with an 11.6. The closest competition was Journal News/Talk WTMJ-AM with an 8.7. Country Aircheck reached out to 25-year ‘MIL PD Kerry Wolfe to find out what’s in the water in America’s 38th largest radio market. Going Rates: “It’s number one in almost every demo,” says Wolfe. “You have to look real hard to find a place it’s not number one – men, women, young, old.” He’s right. WMIL led the market in September with Persons 18-34 (12.7) and 25-54 (10.6), Wolfe shares. The station’s closest competitor in the 18-34 arena was Entercom Top 40 WXSS (9.2), while Saga Musical Wares: SESAC Nashville names Jerrod Niemann’s Rock WHQG had that distinction 25-54 (7.6). “Drink To That All Night” Song of the Year at last night’s That three-point spread between ‘MIL and its (11/2) Music Awards.
