Ystrad Stories On Wednesday July 12, Sharon Magill MA will be a Guest Speaker at the Welfare Hall to present and discuss forthcoming events regarding the Stories Project at 2pm.The Project will be displayed at Llanfair Uniting Church, from Wednesday, 19 July. Ystrad Story Trail Come along to the Ystrad Stories Trail event on Saturday 22nd July and join us as we walk the trail, have a picnic and enjoy a unique performance in the wonderful surroundings of the Rhondda valley. The main ​ ​ subject of discussion is the plans for developing a Health Park in Dewi Sant. The Carer Information and Support Programme (CrISP) (1) is for those who are ​ supporting or caring for someone with a dementia diagnosis (any type or form) at the early to moderate stage of dementia. It will run over two days with lunch and refreshments provided at Hawthorn Leisure Centre on Thursday 13th July and Friday 14th July from 9.30am-3.30pm. A new fund raising craft group is setting up in where the crafts made ​ ​ ​ will be used as raised funds for the charities of the group’s choice. All kinds of crafts will take place such as decorative candles, knitting, book cutting/folding, crochet and lots more. They meet at Rhydyfelin library on Tuesdays 10am-12pm. They are ​ ​ ​ quite informal: no-one has to give their name, nor will they be asked to speak, and there is no group discussion involved. Free Physical Activity and Nutrition Classes are being offered by the Mid Cluster ​ Communities First Team. Nutrition & Cooking sessions are led by a qualified Nutrition Officer, providing free guidance & advice.

Actif Woods in Merthyr is now running a weekly walking and exercise group in ​ conjunction with the National Exercise Referral Scheme (NERS) every Friday from the Bothy at Cyfarthfa Park starting at 10am. Everyone is welcome to join the group and a NERS referral isn’t necessary.

Venture Out 8 Week Accredited Activity Programme every Friday This programme is for people who are unemployed and is aimed at developing the skills necessary to gain employment and includes problem solving, planning, timekeeping, working with others, group management, Health & Safety and team building. Activities include; canoeing, hill walking, climbing/abseiling, camp craft/survival skills, archery, gorge walking and cycling. Screening for Life Campaign During July Community Coordinators will be supporting the Screening for Life campaign, and will be attending GP surgeries to connect with patients:

North Merthyr: Keir Hardie (x3 Practices) and Morlais Medical Practice ​ North Taf Ely: Eglwys Bach Surgery, Taf Vale Practice, Ashgrove Surgery, and ​ Ynysbwl Surgery.

Venture Out (Merthyr Tydfil) This 12 week recovery programme aims to improve health & wellbeing and social integration for clients who are suffering or recovering from mental health issues. Referrals may be made by NHS - CMHT, Primary Care and other agencies e.g. Mind, Gofal, Hafal, Communities for Work.

Three activity days a week are provided and include climbing/abseiling, raft building, cycling, hill walking, map reading, camp craft/survival, visits to places of historical interest, museums,castles and country parks. There is also a gardening project whereby clients manage a community allotment and a Hydroponic project in Cyfarthfa Park and grow all their own fruit and vegetables. Transport can be provided ​ in order to ensure that everyone can access the activities and clients will also have the opportunity to develop their personal social and life skills.
