21 Matt Alfaro #22 Zak Zborosky #4 Cale Fleury OFFICIAL MAGAZINE OF THE KOOTENAY ICE Volume 18, Issue 30 #21 Matt Alfaro #22 Zak Zborosky #4 Cale Fleury 365 MESSAGES Greetings from the WHL Last year, during the Western Hockey League’s 50th season, we were privileged to reflect on our rich history and honour the many distinguished builders and alumni who have helped to make the WHL the finest junior hockey league in the world today. As we open the 2016-17 WHL season, the same ideals that fostered the growth our great League still serve as its foundation – a commitment to providing our players with a world class experience from both a hockey and education standpoint. The WHL and our 22 member Clubs take great pride in providing our players with the best possible environment in which to succeed both on and off the ice. On the ice, our high calibre of coaching and arena facilities continue to offer an ideal setting to grow and develop as a player. Off the ice, the WHL Scholarship remains the most comprehensive hockey scholarship in North America with a WHL record of over 350 graduates utilizing their WHL Scholarship at post-secondary institutions across the continent last year alone, representing an investment of over $2 million by WHL Club ownership. The WHL Scholarship is one of many commitments WHL Club ownership makes to ensure the success of our players. The WHL Players First support services program expanded last year with the addition of a League-wide WHL Security Network and Police Impact Program which engages local police officers in a liaison capacity with all of our teams to ensure our players are in a safe and respectful environment at all times. This year, the WHL has partnered with the Canadian Mental Health Association to launch the Talk Today program with all of our WHL member Clubs. Talk Today is a proven and important mental health initiative that will help our players and team staff identify and address mental health issues. The development opportunities the WHL provides on the ice and the assistance offered off the ice to our players through the WHL Scholarship and WHL Players First support services programs would not be possible without the support of our great fans as well as our corporate partners, broadcasters and media. The 2016-17 WHL season promises to be another highly entertaining campaign and we look forward to supporting our players and all of our WHL Clubs as they continue to set the standard for development both on and off the ice. Within the first round, how do the top 10 overall picks perform versus those taken 11th-30th? – How much more valuable is a pick in the first round versus the other rounds? All things being equal, what should a pick from each round be worth in a trade? – Which teams were the most effective at drafting in the period sampled? Before getting to the questions above, I start with a quick overview of prior work in the area, the methodology used, the constraints of this analysis, as well as covering some basic context

  • Dobber's 2010-11 Fantasy Guide
DOBBER’S 2010-11 FANTASY GUIDE DOBBERHOCKEY.COM – HOME OF THE TOP 300 FANTASY PLAYERS I think we’re at the point in the fantasy hockey universe where DobberHockey.com is either known in a fantasy league, or the GM’s are sleeping. Besides my column in The Hockey News’ Ultimate Pool Guide, and my contributions to this year’s Score Forecaster (fifth year doing each), I put an ad in McKeen’s. That covers the big three hockey pool magazines and you should have at least one of them as part of your draft prep. The other thing you need, of course, is this Guide right here. It is not only updated throughout the summer, but I also make sure that the features/tidbits found in here are unique. I know what’s in the print mags and I have always tried to set this Guide apart from them. Once again, this is an automatic download – just pick it up in your downloads section. Look for one or two updates in August, then one or two updates between September 1st and 14th. After that, when training camp is in full swing, I will be updating every two or three days right into October. Make sure you download the latest prior to heading into your draft (and don’t ask me on one day if I’ll be updating the next day – I get so many of those that I am unable to answer them all, just download as late as you can). Any updates beyond this original release will be in bold blue.

2018-19 Chicago Wolves Game Notes ROCKFORD AT CHICAGO NOVEMBER 10, 2018 7 p.m. CW50 THE GREATEST RIVALRY IN SPORTS 2018-19 Go ahead. Think of the most-ballyhooed rivalries in sports. Bears vs. Packers. Red Sox vs. Yankees. TALE OF THE TAPE Cubs vs. Cardinals. Ohio State vs. Michigan. All of them pale in comparison to the Chicago Wolves vs. the Rockford IceHogs. Since the day this rivalry began on Oct. 19, 2007 -- when the Wolves defeated REGULAR-SEASON SERIES 0-0-0-0 Rockford | 0-0-0-0 Chicago the IceHogs and goaltender Corey Crawford 5-4 in overtime at Allstate Arena -- these franchises have LAST MEETING been dead-even. April 22, 2018 Today marks the 125th regular-season meeting between these teams. The Wolves have won 62 times and the IceHogs have won 62 times, though it’s not quite that close in goals (the Wolves have outscored the IceHogs 387-352). But this rivalry is more than just evenly matched. Because these teams are located just 70 miles apart and they play 12 times per year., there are plenty of opportunities to build 7-4-1-2 8-3-0-1 up a healthy amount of disdain for the other side. LEADING SCORERS ROCKFORD CHICAGO FOUR ON THE FLOOR FOR CARR Skater G A Pts Skater G A Pts Wolves left wing Daniel Carr became the first AHL player in nearly nine months to score four goals in Raddysh 3 8 11 Macek 12 7 19 a game when he stacked up four on Wednesday at Milwaukee.

  • MEDIA GUIDE 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship a Chance to See the Best Ice Hockey Players
MEDIA GUIDE 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship A chance to see the best ice hockey players One misconception about the IIHF World Junior Championships is that it features “future” stars. If you look at the development of the event, you will realize that this magnificent tournament features players who are world class stars already today. The World Juniors also show, by the way, how quickly a year goes by. Let’s take you back to December 2012 and the IIHF World U20 event in Ufa, Russia. Canada’s Ryan Nugent-Hopkins who led the tournament in scoring with 15 points in 6 games is today an integral part of the Edmonton Oilers while his countrymen Jonathan Huberdeau (9 points in 6 games in Ufa) and Mark Scheifele (8 points in 6 games) are the future of the Florida Panthers and Winnipeg Jets respectively. USA’s All-Star defenseman and gold winner in Ufa, Jacob Trouba, is playing sensationally well for the Winnipeg while teammate Alex Galchenyuk personifies the new generation Montreal Canadiens. Last year’s dominating Finns Joel Armia and Markus Granlund have both signed NHL contracts and are biding their time in the AHL, but Swedes Filip Forsberg, Elias Lindholm and Rickard Rakell have all played NHL games this season. So think about this when you watch the 38th IIHF World Junior event in Malmö – you may most likely have one chance to see the best players. Next year they are probably celebrated professionals either in the NHL or in any of the European leagues. A good example of the natural turnover is the defending World Champion United States: from last year’s golden roster in Ufa only there are only three returnees on the 2014 team.
