    I. INTRODUCTION Thank you for your interest in the NC Force/Golden Bears program. 2021-22 will mark our 7th season as a youth hockey program in the Carolina Amateur Hockey Association as part of USA Hockey. Beginning in 2015-26 with two teams, U16 and U18, the program has grown to 11 teams in 2020-21. We have overwhelming interest, and we are looking to expand again in 2021-22. Our program is unique in that the professional coaches within the program do not change and each year it builds upon its experiences at multiple levels to continuously learning the best practices to develop kids from the youngest levels to the oldest levels. We do not simply worry about the development of each player within a particular season, we constantly are envisioning where each player will be multiple seasons down the road, based on their physical development and their hockey IQ. We feel that putting each player in the best situations to succeed is the best way to ensure each player keeps their enjoyment levels high and are given the time to build their love of the game as they move from non-checking, to checking, from single A to AA to AAA to Junior to College and to Professional hockey. With all that said, we believe the most important aspects of hockey is to have fun and to teach character and discipline, Sincerely, Paul Strand II. CULTURE “Its amazing what can be accomplished when no one cares who gets the credit” John Wooden The NC Force believes fully in the coaching and teaching of former UCLA coach John Wooden.

  • Jaromir Jagr, the Skater
Jaromir Jagr, the Skater by Ross Bonander January 2014 As a member of The Hockey Writers draft team, I often hear about skating ability from scouts. It tends to be the first thing they look at, although, as Shane Malloy writes in The Art of Scouting, that doesn't mean they all agree on its importance from the scouting perspective. This is in part because, unlike something like size, skating is a skill which players can improve. The 2013-14 season marks Jaromir Jagr’s 25th year of professional hockey, and he is methodically working his way up the all-time scoring lists, all while leading his latest team, the New Jersey Devils, in points. This got me wondering: Perhaps throughout the 1700+ NHL points he’s accumulated, the take-you-out-of-your- seat stickhandling, the jaw-dropping dekes and sensational goals, maybe one aspect of Jagr's game deserved a closer look. Jaromir Jagr, the Skater. The great Eddie Johnston once echoed a sentiment expressed by everyone from Mario Lemieux to Scotty Bowman when he said: “I don’t know any player who is stronger on his skates than Jaromir Jagr. One on one, there has never been a player so dangerous.” For instance, in collecting his 1,723rd career point, an assist on an Adam Henrique goal, Jaromir Jagr victimized defenseman Nick Grossman in classic Jagr fashion: With fast hands, long reach, impeccable hockey sense … and all of it powered from, made possible by, his skates. After watching video both new and old, I concluded that for all the spectacular goals Jagr has scored, almost none of them would be possible were he anything short of one of the very best skaters in the game.

  • Hockey Great Kevin Lowe on 40 Years with the NHL and Why He
Darren Paltrowitz June 25 2018 Hockey Great Kevin Lowe on 40 Years With the NHL And Why He Calls Mexico Home Part-Time Drafted to the NHL's Edmonton Oilers as part of the team's 1979 NHL Entry Draft, Kevin Lowe played 13 full seasons with the Oilers before moving on to the New YorK Rangers. Regarded as one of the three kings of the Oilers 1980s dynasty, alongside Wayne GretzKy and MarK Messier, Lowe won 6 Stanley Cups within his playing career. He also managed to be a seven-time NHL All-Star beyond being the recipient of 1990's King Clancy Memorial Trophy. While a 19-year playing career in the NHL would be enough for most players, Kevin Lowe went on to join the Oilers staff as an assistant coach in 1998. He transitioned into a head coach the following year, and then became the team's general manager in 2000. Still employed by the Oilers, Lowe is currently the Vice Kevin Lowe - NHL All Star, Stanley Cup Winner & Executive Chairman of the Oilers Entertainment Group. Lowe has also been involved with interesting projects over the years outside of hockey. One such project is consulting for Vivo Resorts, an all-suite beachfront resort in Puerto Escondido, Mexico. Vivo is the brainchild of another notable pro athlete, former World Cup downhill sKi champion and Olympian Cary Mullen of Canada. When speaKing with Lowe by phone, I asKed him about his careers both on and off the ice, in addition to how Mexico first became part of his life.

DATE: April 3, 2016 CONTACT: Jon Lundin, ORDA director of communications, ([email protected]) at (518) 523-1655 ext. 5313 *** VIDEO RELEASE *** 60 “Campers” Arrive in Lake Placid for Second Annual Miracle on Ice Fantasy Camp LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- The 60 campers arrived, in Lake Placid, N.Y, today, Sunday, April 3, to participate in the five-day long second annual Miracle on Ice Fantasy Camp. These campers come from as far away as Seattle, Wash. and range in age from 28 to 68 years-old. While in the two-time Olympic village they will spend the entire time playing hockey, hanging out with and listening to stories told by 16 players from the famed 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team. It was 36 years ago that this group of mostly college age hockey players defeated the favored Soviet Union 4-3, in the game that’s known world-wide as the “Miracle on Ice,” en- route to the improbable Olympic gold medal. The 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team players taking part in the camp include Bill Baker, Neal Broten, Dave Christian, Mike Eruzione, John Harrington, Steve Janaszek, Mark Johnson, Rob McClanahan, Ken Morrow, Jack O’Callahan, Mark Pavlich, Mike Ramsey, Buzz Schneider, Dave Silk, Eric Strobel and Mark Wells. The squad’s assistant coach, Craig Patrick, is also in Lake Placid. All Fantasy Campers were picked up from Albany (N.Y.) International Airport and transported to Lake Placid via motor coach. While in Lake Placid, they’ll receive hockey instruction and play games while spending four nights at the High Peaks Resort.
