The OWHC interconnects more than 300 cities that incorporate sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Combined, these cities have a total population of over 164 million people. They are represented in the Organization by their mayor, with the active participation of elected municipal officials and heritage managers. The primary objectives of the Organization are to facilitate the implementation of the World Heritage Convention, to encourage cooperation and the exchange of information and expertise on matters of conservation and management, as well as to develop a sense of solidarity among its member cities. To this end, the OWHC organizes World Congresses, conferences, seminars and workshops dealing with the challenges faced in the area of management and it provides strategies for the preservation and development of historic cities. THE REGIONAL SECRETARIAT COOPERATION This brochure was created by the Secretariat for Northwest Europe and North America, hosted by the City of Regensburg, Germany. We promote communi- cation between member cities and organize regular meetings with experts and delegates from each city to discuss ideas and problems. We also try to bring World Heritage closer to our own citizens by organizing projects and events, like photo and video competitions or travel scholarships.
