SUNDERLAND & SOUTH TYNESIDE CAMPAIGN FOR REAL ALE 4th - 6th October 2018 The Point Holmeside, Sunderland SR1 3HY Souvenir Programme and Beer/Cider List. Maxim Brewery have sponsored Sunderland & South Tyneside CAMRA’s “Sunderland Octoberfest” event since 2009 and we welcome their continued support at the 2018 Sunderland Beer and Cider Festival. As well as being our shirt sponsor again this year , Maxim Brewery are providing us with logistical & storage support both before & after the festival takes place. Last year Maxim celebrated 10 years of brewing at their Rainton Bridge site and this year celebrations continued with a Gold for their Raspberry Porter at the recent North East Society of Independent Brewers Awards in the Cask Speciality Medium to Dark beers category. For the beer festival , as well as the well established Double Maxim, we welcome two new beers ; Medusa IPA and the intriguing Smoke and Mirrors Porter , which promises us a smokey malt flavour. Maxim Brewery 1 Gadwell Road Houghton le Spring Sunderland DH4 5NL 0191 5848844 maximbrewery.co.uk Hello everyone, and welcome to the second Beer and Cider Festival CAMRA Sunderland and South Tyneside have held at The Point, Sunderland. We have assembled a selection of over 40 beers and ciders from far and wide, and we hope you enjoy them. The beers range from Scotland to Yorkshire, from the Isle of Man to Staffordshire, from Cambridgeshire to our North East breweries. Ciders include a Pyder, Plum & Ginger, Blueberry and Cherry Bakewell. In a departure from our previous festivals you will see we have no new festival glasses this year. In line with a number of other CAMRA branches up and down the country we find ourselves with a considerable glass mountain, formed from unsold glasses we have accumulated over the years. We have therefore decided not to buy new glasses each year until we make a considerable ‘hole’ in our mountain. This means as we are not spending money on glasses we can pass the savings on to you. We can also do ‘our bit’ to help protect the environment. Admission to the festival this year is a straight £3 which provides you with entrance, a non-refundable glass and a festival programme. HOW IT WORKS If you are reading this, you will have bought a glass and beer tokens You will also have been given a wristband. The wristband will act as a pass out and helps us keep track of the number of people in the venue. Once it has been placed on you, do not remove it as you will not get served. All beers and ciders are priced at one token. In most cases, one token will get you half a pint of beer or cider. Beers of 6% ABV and over will be served in measures of a third of a pint. You can buy extra beer tokens at the admissions stand. Beers indicated as LOCALE are those that are locally brewed in Northumberland, Tyne & Wear and County Durham. There is also a tick box against each beer and cider for you to record, if you wish, what you have had to drink. Finally, the festival charity again this year is Sunderland RNLI in Roker. You can donate unused beer tokens, which contributed towards us donating £250 last year. David Brazier Festival Organiser Sunderland & South Tyneside CAMRA The Beers 1.
