In determining this application the authority has taken account of the guidance in paras 186 – 187 of the NPPF (2012) and sought to secure sustainable development that improves the economic, social and environmental conditions of the Borough.

The proposed illuminated fascia sign on both of the bow fronted windows, the backlit ATM tablet and the illuminated projecting sign will both individually and collectively detract from the character and appearance of the building. The signs have no respect for the historic character of the façade and will, if allowed, seriously compromise the listed status of the building thereby undermining the amenity of the area. The proposed advertisements are contrary to Policies G1 and A1 of the Adopted Boston Borough Local Plan (April 1999), policies G1 and A1 of the Boston Borough Interim Plan (Non-Statutory Development Control Policy (February 2006)) and paragraph 67 of the NPPF (2012) which collectively seek to resist proposals which are damaging to the appearance of a listed building and harm the character of an area.
