New Classes... Great things are happening at Mission of Mercy! We continue to partner with various agencies to offer new and creative programs, services, and classes to our patients at no cost to them. We recently partnered with STCH Ministries to offer two new 10 week free classes which include “Faith & Work” and “Faith & Finances”. “Faith & Finances” classes will educate our patients on how to focus on creating a spending plan that works, managing debt, applying for loans, saving money and more. “Faith & Work” classes will assist our patients with skills in resume writing, interviewing, networking, communicating and more. Mission of Mercy wants to empower, educate and equip our patients with the tools they need to improve not only their health, but their lives as a whole.

Community Partner Spotlight…

Our spotlight shines brightly on Wesley Nurses of Methodist Healthcare Ministries who have been a blessing to Mission of Mercy since the first mobile clinic 11 years ago. Over the years, these nurses have brought many helpful programs to our patients including diabetes education, one on one nutrition counseling, A1C testing, healthy cooking classes, flu shots, and other free medical services. They focus on a holistic approach of mind, body and spirit with each patient. Wesley Nurses are compassionate and offer a helping hand to not only our patients, but to many other organizations all over . The Wesley Nurse program spans more than 90 sites throughout South Texas and is Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc.'s largest geographic outreach program.

Our 2019 Honorees

Jesse Villarreal Volunteer of the Year Jesse has volunteered at Mission of Mercy for over a year now and he serves as an interpreter. He was a patient in 2006 when he became unemployed and lost his health insurance. He was diagnosed with diabetes. Mission of Mercy helped him when he needed it the most and he wanted to pay it forward and help other patients. Jesse says “I find volunteering rewarding and enjoy helping the patients out and I’m thankful I can help others especially those with diabetes like myself.”

Angie Martinez Impact Award Angie became a volunteer in 2011, was hired in June 2015 as the Administrative Assistant and is now the Clinic Office Manager. Angie considers working at Mission of Mercy “God’s calling.” She loves the patients, volunteers and most important, the mission. “It’s the one place I know that people come to when they have been told no and are received with “yes”, we can and will help you. I love being someone’s last hope.”

Dr. Arnoldo Villarreal Impact Award Dr. Villarreal is an Ophthalmologist and became a volunteer in June 2018. He helped create and implement our new Vision Clinic at Mission of Mercy. He has been instrumental in securing the equipment needed and helping to find volunteer staff for the Vision Clinic. Nursing Director Lynette Navar says, “ Without Dr. Villarreal, I do not know if we could have gotten the Vision Clinic up and running. He is so passionate about our patients and our mission.”

Dr. Sandra Rodrigues Impact Award Dr. Rodrigues is a physician and became a volunteer in June 2014. She liked the idea of helping others so when she left her previous position she decided it was time to volunteer. Sandra says her favorite thing about volunteering at Mission of Mercy is the satisfaction she feels in helping others. “When I see people who have diabetes improve, start doing better and feeling better, that is what I find satisfying.” Thank you to our 2019 Sponsors “ Hawkeye pierce”
