The Eagle's Nest Is Located in Berchtesgaden
media information… The Eagle’s Nest (Kehlsteinhaus 1,834m) The so-called Eagle’s Nest teahouse (Kehlsteinhaus) was offered to Adolf Hitler on the occasion of his 50th birthday with the aim of using it for representation purposes for official guests. The challenging construction of the Eagle’s Nest, including the access road was completed in some 13 months’ time. The road leading up to the Eagle’s Nest upper bus terminal area is Germany’s highest and is considered a unique feat of engineering. The brass-line elevator that gives access to the summit is also a distinctive feature of this world-famous attraction. Today the Eagle’s Nest is open to the public and can be seen in its original form. Thanks to its many visitors, proceeds from this sightsseing attraction are used for charitable purposes. Location: The Eagle's Nest is located in Berchtesgaden. Special mountain buses depart every 25 min from Obersalzberg (Kehlsteinbusabfahrt). The journey takes about a quarter of an hour each way. From the parking area at the top, visitors walk 124m (406ft) through a tunnel to the original elevator. The lift transports up to 46 passengers at a time up into the Eagle's Nest building. Local Events and cultural highlights: Road and weather conditions permitting, the building and its road access are open from around mid-May through October. On clear days, visitors to the Eagle’s Nest are rewarded with spectacular views over the Berchtesgaden area, Lake Königssee and Salzburg, as well as with a grandiose mountain panorama of the majestic Berchtesgaden Alps. -

The Nazi Party thereafter was declared as illegal and was forbidden by law. Hitler himself, as the head and leader of the party was cobvicted to spend five years in jail. 2. Besonderes Augenmerk liegt auf den Schicksalen der von Feme und Verfolgung betroffenen Künstlerinnen und Künstler, sowie der Biographie von Hildebrand Gurlitt in all ihren Widersprüchen. In der «Werkstatt Provenienzforschung» können Sie an Beispielen selbst die Methoden und Herausforderungen der Provenienzforschung nach- vollziehen. Was ist der «Kunstfund Gurlitt»? Der «Kunstfund Gurlitt» umfasst Kunstwerke aus dem Besitz Cornelius Gurlitts (1932–2014), Sohn des deutschen Kunsthändlers Hildebrand Gurlitt (1895–1956). Der Grossteil der Werke wurde 2012 in der Münchner Wohnung von Cornelius Gurlitt infolge eines Steuerermittlungsver- fahrens beschlagnahmt. Durch einen Bericht des Nachrichtenmagazins «Focus» am 3. November 2013 erfuhr die Öffentlichkeit von der Existenz des Bestandes. -

She remained in the camp where she was forced to take part in experimentation, and her story relates the horrors at Auschwitz. After the Russians liberated the camp in 1944, she took part in the march from the camp to Germany. Manuscript interweaves her interview with Albert's narrative. The first is a report of Dachau, the oldest of the Nazi concentration camps. The second is a lengthy, detailed record of the accounts of the 495th Armored Field Artillery Battalion. The collection includes a manuscript entitled "Dachau" by a man who served in the Army in the European Theater (ETO). This manuscript is divided into four sections. Section One contains an overview and analysis of the inner workings (administration) of the concentration camp, an analysis of the types of prisoners, and lastly, the results of an effort to determine if there were any organized prisoner groups, especially underground groups. Section Two contains a recap of the activities of the Seventh Army with regard to their liberation of Dachau, which was begun on 30 April 1945. They conducted interviews with survivors and also interviewed townspeople to try to determine how much they knew about the camp, which was located on the outskirts of their town. -

Anita Judith Ogurlu 16 February 2016 2 Abstract This thesis examines the life and work of a little-known interwar period German writer Lilo Linke. Documenting individual and social evolution across three continents, her self-reflexive and autobiographical narratives are like conversations with readers in the hope of facilitating progressive change. With little tertiary education, as a self-fashioned practitioner prior to the emergence of cultural studies, Linke’s everyday experiences constitute ‘experiential learning’ (John Dewey). Rejecting her Nazi-leaning family, through ‘fortunate encounter[s]’ (Goethe) she became critical of Weimar and cultivated hope by imagining and working to become a better person, what Ernst Bloch called Vor-Schein. Linke’s ‘instinct of workmanship’, ‘parental bent’ and ‘idle curiosity’ was grounded in her inherent ‘spirit of insubordination’, terms borrowed from Thorstein Veblen. -

documenta studies #11 December 2020 NANNE BUURMAN Northern Gothic: Werner Haftmann’s German Lessons, or A Ghost (Hi)Story of Abstraction This essay by the documenta and exhibition scholar Nanne Buurman I See documenta: Curating the History of the Present, ed. by Nanne Buurman and Dorothee Richter, special traces the discursive tropes of nationalist art history in narratives on issue, OnCurating, no. 13 (June 2017). German pre- and postwar modernism. In Buurman’s “Ghost (Hi)Story of Abstraction” we encounter specters from the past who swept their connections to Nazism under the rug after 1945, but could not get rid of them. She shows how they haunt art history, theory, the German feuilleton, and even the critical German postwar literature. The editor of documenta studies, which we founded together with Carina Herring and Ina Wudtke in 2018, follows these ghosts from the history of German art and probes historical continuities across the decades flanking World War II, which she brings to the fore even where they still remain implicit. Buurman, who also coedited the volume documenta: Curating the History of the Present (2017),I thus uses her own contribution to documenta studies to call attention to the ongoing relevance of these historical issues for our contemporary practices. Let’s consider the Nazi exhibition of so-called Degenerate Art, presented in various German cities between 1937 and 1941, which is often regarded as documenta’s negative foil. To briefly recall the facts: The exhibition brought together more than 650 works by important artists of its time, with the sole aim of stigmatizing them and placing them in the context of the Nazis’ antisemitic racial ideology. -

The expellees were forced to relocate to post-war Germany. They represented a complete cross-section of society, were close substitutes to the native West German population, and were very unevenly distributed across labor market segments in West Germany. We find a substantial negative effect of expellee inflows on native employment. The effect was, however, limited to labor market segments with very high inflow rates. IV regressions that exploit variation in geographical proximity and in pre-war occupations confirm the OLS results. GERMANY 2020 HUMAN RIGHTS REPORT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Germany is a constitutional democracy. Citizens choose their representatives periodically in free and fair multiparty elections. The lower chamber of the federal parliament (Bundestag) elects the chancellor as head of the federal government. The second legislative chamber, the Federal Council (Bundesrat), represents the 16 states at the federal level and is composed of members of the state governments. The country’s 16 states exercise considerable autonomy, including over law enforcement and education. Observers considered the national elections for the Bundestag in 2017 to have been free and fair, as were state elections in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Responsibility for internal and border security is shared by the police forces of the 16 states, the Federal Criminal Police Office, and the federal police. The states’ police forces report to their respective interior ministries; the federal police forces report to the Federal Ministry of the Interior. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the state offices for the protection of the constitution are responsible for gathering intelligence on threats to domestic order and other security functions. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution reports to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, and the state offices for the same function report to their respective ministries of the interior. Civilian authorities maintained effective control over security forces. Members of the security forces committed few abuses. Significant human rights issues included: crimes involving violence motivated by anti-Semitism and crimes involving violence targeting members of ethnic or religious minority groups motivated by Islamophobia or other forms of right-wing extremism.
