Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips January 4, 2014 Devils-Sabres Preview By Nicolino DiBenedetto Associated Press January 4, 2014 The Buffalo Sabres may own the fewest points in the NHL, but they've hardly resembled the league's worst team lately at home. Ryan Miller has had a hand in that success. Miller will likely be in net looking to win a sixth straight home game, as the Sabres face the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night. Buffalo (11-26-4) not only has the worst record in the league, its average of 1.63 goals ranks last - 0.60 behind Minnesota for 29th. The Sabres fell 4-1 at Minnesota on Thursday, losing their 11th straight on the road. "It's just one of those things where when we're bad, we're bad," interim coach Ted Nolan said. They've been very good at home, however, going 5-0-1 in their last six home games. They're averaging 2.75 goals to win four straight there for the first time since a five-game streak from Feb. 19-March 12, 2012. Miller has been superb at home, compiling a 1.34 goals-against average and .962 save percentage while winning his last five games in Buffalo. He last won six straight there from Nov. 13-Dec. 9, 2010. Miller, named to the U.S. Olympic team earlier this week, may have a chance to equal that run since he's 4-1-1 with a 1.60 GAA and a shutout over his last six home meetings with the Devils (17-17-8).

DOBBER’S 2010-11 FANTASY GUIDE DOBBERHOCKEY.COM – HOME OF THE TOP 300 FANTASY PLAYERS I think we’re at the point in the fantasy hockey universe where DobberHockey.com is either known in a fantasy league, or the GM’s are sleeping. Besides my column in The Hockey News’ Ultimate Pool Guide, and my contributions to this year’s Score Forecaster (fifth year doing each), I put an ad in McKeen’s. That covers the big three hockey pool magazines and you should have at least one of them as part of your draft prep. The other thing you need, of course, is this Guide right here. It is not only updated throughout the summer, but I also make sure that the features/tidbits found in here are unique. I know what’s in the print mags and I have always tried to set this Guide apart from them. Once again, this is an automatic download – just pick it up in your downloads section. Look for one or two updates in August, then one or two updates between September 1st and 14th. After that, when training camp is in full swing, I will be updating every two or three days right into October. Make sure you download the latest prior to heading into your draft (and don’t ask me on one day if I’ll be updating the next day – I get so many of those that I am unable to answer them all, just download as late as you can). Any updates beyond this original release will be in bold blue.

  • Buffalo Sabres Digital Press
Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips January 9, 2014 Panthers-Sabres Preview Associated Press January 8, 2014 The Buffalo Sabres may own the fewest points and victories in the NHL, but they've played extremely well at home over the last month. A matchup Thursday night with a Florida Panthers team against which they've had success recently could give the Sabres a solid chance of winning six in a row on their own ice for the first time in nearly seven years. Buffalo (12-26-4) lost its first nine home games and had three wins in 16 such contests over the first two months. The Sabres, though, are 6-0-1 in the last seven at First Niagara Center, beating New Jersey 2-1 on Saturday for their fifth consecutive home win. Their first chance at winning six straight in Buffalo since Jan. 17-Feb. 15, 2007, was scheduled for Tuesday night against Carolina, but the game was postponed because of a snowstorm. Goaltender Ryan Miller has been a big part of the turnaround. He's 6-0-0 with a 1.29 goals-against average in his last six home starts and has a 1.73 GAA in his past nine overall. "The guys definitely feel the energy," Miller said of playing at home. "It's important to hear that the crowd's behind you." Miller, though, has struggled in Buffalo against Florida (16-21-6). He's alternated wins and losses in his last eight starts while posting a 3.00 GAA, and will give way to backup Jhonas Enroth on Thursday.

What began as an ambitious idea to build and brand a hockey league from the ground up has turned into one of the most sought-after fantasy leagues on the web. In 2008, we began a design-by-democracy process of creating a league from scratch on the Icethetics blog. Readers voted on every aspect from deciding which cities would get teams to what names logos each should use. Two years after the project began, 20 fans breathed life into the league by taking part in our inaugural fantasy hockey season. As we begin our second year, I thought it appropriate to take a look back at how we got where we are and what happened during that inaugural season. I hope you enjoy this yearbook and the upcoming IceHL season! Chris Smith IceHL Commissioner www.icethetics.info P.S.: Try not to confuse me with the über-talented IceHL logo artist who shares my name and whose work you will see throughout this book. Enjoy! 2 YEARBOOK IceHL 2011 From the Ground Up... The project was announced as “From the Ground Up” on Aug. 10, 2008. In that blog post, plans were laid out for Icethetics’ biggest undertaking to date. Designing an entire hockey league from scratch would be an arduous process, but readers would be able to give their input in every decision made, every step of the way. NORTH AMERICA OR THE WORLD? After 69% of readers showed an interest in moving forward with the project, they were asked how the geography of the league should be defined.
