RAILPORTS Railports offer special logistics services

Multimodal transport logistics solutions via DB Schenker ­railports include the main stage of the journey by rail, tranship- ment, HGV transport for the initial and final legs, and further value-added logistics services. The central feature of the system is a -wide network of more than 100 railports which DB Schenker uses. These are multifunctional logistics centres that are connected to the rail network. In addition to crossdocking combined with the need-based handling of various kinds of freight between road and rail, they also offer complex logistics solutions such as commissioning and JIT deliveries. This way, the advantages of both transport modes can be intel- ligently combined. Neither the sender nor the recipient needs rail infrastructure of their own to be able to integrate rail as a transport mode into their supply chain. Many customers across Europe are already taking advantage of rail-based logistics via the DB Schenker railports that DB Schenker Rail now services on the north–south and east–west corridors with frequent shuttle and liner trains. With these train systems, not only are the railports serviced but also the sidings of the shippers, ­depending on the underlying production concept. In France, DB Schenker Rail offers multimodal transport logistics solutions via a number of railport locations right on the Spanish border, both on the Mediterranean side in Perpignan, Le Boulou and Port Bou, as well as on the Atlantic side in Bayonne and Irun. mh
