AMC ( Has Renewed “Better Call Saul ( for a Third Season, the Network Announced Tuesday MARCH 15, 2016 | 02:45PM PT COURTESY OF AMC AMC (http://variety.com/t/amc/) has renewed “Better Call Saul (http://variety.com/t/better-call-saul/)” for a third season, the network announced Tuesday. The Sony Pictures Television-produced “Breaking Bad (http://variety.com/t/breaking-bad/)” prequel was picked up for an additional 10 episodes. Exec produced by Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould (http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/better-call-saul-season- 2-premiere-peter-gould-jimmy-mcgill-1201704062/), “Better Call Saul” stars Bob Odenkirk as Jimmy McGill, the lawyer character introduced to viewers as Saul Goodman on the Gilligan-created “Breaking Bad.” “What Vince, Peter, Bob and the entire team have accomplished with ‘Better Call Saul’ is truly rare and remarkable. They have taken one of the most iconic, immersive and fan-obsessive (in the best possible way) shows in television history and created a prequel that stands on its own,” Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios, said in a statement. “Watching Jimmy McGill’s thoughtful, melodic and morally flexible transformation into Saul Goodman is entertaining and delighting millions of fans, whether their starting point was ‘Breaking Bad’ or not. This series has its own feel, pace and sensibility and we can’t wait to see what this incredibly talented group comes up with next in season three.” In 2015 “Better Call Saul” was nominated for seven Primetime Emmy Awards — among them outstanding drama series RELAT ED and lead actor in a drama series for Odenkirk. The 2015 series premiere of “Better Call Saul,” having enjoyed a lead-in from ratings juggernaut “The Walking Dead,” (http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/walking-dead-better-call-saul- premieres-ratings-1201710675/) was the second highest rated for a drama series in cable history in Nielsen’s 18-49 demographic. Season two has averaged 4.4 million total (http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/better-call- saul-breaking-bad-bob-odenkirk-vince-gilligan- viewers in Nielsen live-plus-three ratings through four peter-gould-paleyfest-1201728792/) episodes as well as 2.7 million adults in the 25-54 demo and ‘Better Call Saul’ Cast and Creators Talk 2.5 million adults 18-49. BETTER CALL SAUL by Vince Gilligan, Peter Gould & Thomas Schnauz JIMMY: Christie! Ms. Esposito! Hold up. Hey, Jimmy McGill, we met inside. Hi. You didn't get it. You were never gonna get it. They dangle these things in front of you. They tell you, you got a chance, but I'm sorry. It's a lie because they had already made up their mind and they knew what they were going to do before you walked in the door. You made a mistake and they are never forgetting it. As far as they're concerned, your mistake is just, it's who you are. And it's all you are. And I'm not just talking about the scholarship here, I'm talking about everything. I mean, they'll smile at you, they'll pat you on the head, but they are never, ever letting you in. But listen... Listen... It doesn't matter. It doesn't because you don't need them. They're not going to give it to you? So what? You're going to take it. You're going to do whatever it takes. Do you hear me? You are not going to play by the rules. You're going to go your own way. You're going to do what they won't do. You're going to be smart. You are going to cut corners and you are going to win. Their on the 35th floor? You're going to be on the 50th floor. You're going to be looking down on them.

He wasn’t just responding to circumstances, there was something in him . " Breaking Bad writer Thomas Schnauz "When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed." James, brother of Jesus “Once we choose who we want to be,people grow ‘to the way in which they have been exercised, just as a sheet of paper or a coat, once creased or folded, tends to fall forever afterward into the same identical folds.’” Charles Duhigg (The Power of Habit) "The behaviors that occur unthinkingly are the evidence of our truest selves." Aristotle "First we form habits, then they form us. Conquer your bad habits, or they'll eventually conquer you." Dr. Rob Gilbert "As long as we think we can save ourselves by our own will power, we will only make the evil in us stronger than ever." Heini Arnold “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings. Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence." The Apostle Paul "Why not? .

“I am the one who knocks!”: What It Means to Be a Man in Breaking Bad. By Stephanie Wille Submitted to the graduate degree program in Film and Media Studies and the Graduate Faculty of the University of Kansas in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts. ________________________________ Chairperson Dr. John C. Tibbetts ________________________________ Dr. Ron Wilson ________________________________ Dr. Germaine Halegoua Date Defended: August 18, 2014 ii The Dissertation Committee for Stephanie Wille certifies that this is the approved version of the following dissertation: “I am the one who knocks!”: What It Means to Be a Man in Breaking Bad. ________________________________ Chairperson Dr. John C. Tibbetts Date approved: October 30, 2014 iii Abstract Breaking Bad (AMC, 2008-2013) dramatizes the rise and fall of Walter White, a mild- mannered high school chemistry teacher who, through a series of misfortunes and freak opportunities, is transformed into a notorious, brutal drug kingpin -- a trajectory described as "Mr. Chips" to "Scarface." I contextualize and conduct a textual analysis of this acclaimed television series as a case study that demonstrates the increasingly complex construction of masculine identity in contemporary television. This study examines the reception of specific characters among critics and audiences, as well as investigates the ways in which the setting and depiction of ethnicities influence representations of masculinity. Calling for attention to the apparent lack in masculinity studies on television, the complex male representation in Breaking Bad suggests that men are not merely experiencing a crisis of their masculinity in contemporary society, but demonstrates that there is a problem with uniform white, hetero-normative representation of masculinity on TV.
