    VISION ARMED FORCES VAF District 3141 THE OBJECTIVE Vision Armed Forces (VAF) was the brain child of our Visionary District Governor Sunnil Mehra. A hard core Punjabi, hailing from Punjab, where almost every house has someone or other in the Armed forces and have seen every war India has fought. Love and respect for Armed Forces, came naturally and he always yearned to do something for them. He formed Armed Forces Avenue comprising of Director Armed Forces, with four Avenue chairs from the four zones supported by one co-chair and two district chairs for each Avenue chairs. The purpose: Welfare of the Armed Forces as also to ensure their due dignity, recognition and visibility among 130 crore Indians. The four Avenue chairs with his team will work with their respective zonal club Presidents and take the local schools and college students out on the streets for a March past along with the local ex-service personnel during Republic Day, Independence Day, Army day, Navy Day, Air Force Day etc, proudly donning their shining medals on their chest. Cheers of people will not only encourage and boost the morale of the Ex-Service veterans but will also give them dignity, recognition and visibility. Organize exhibitions and lectures in the schools, colleges and other youth forums in their community. During the conference, a rapid identification detector Raider-X was also officially launched. Raider-X can detect up to 20 explosives within a distance of about two metres, but can be expanded as the requirements with certain limitations. It is developed jointly by High Energy MaterialsMaterials ResearchResearch Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune and IISc Bengaluru. The conference was held on the occasion of the diamond jubilee celebration of High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Pune based DRDO laboratory on Sunday. Reddy, stated that with increasing terrorist activities, detection of explosives became a compelling need of the hour. He said, “Security agencies are continuously suffering from Naxal attacks in various parts of our country. To effectively thwart the attempts of these anti-social elements, academia, DRDO and other scientific institutes must focus on explosive detection in both bulk and trace forms.” He further said most of the recent terrorist attacks or violent attacks where explosives are observed to be not necessarily high end but are made with elements which are easily availableavailable likelike petrol,petrol, gelatin sticks, ammonium nitrate and others.

    MONTHLY DEFENCE UPDATES MARCH & APRIL 2021 SECTION A – MILITARY EXERCISES NATO Military Exercise “DEFENDER – Europe 21” • It is an annual US-led multinational exercise, and it focuses on deterring aggression. • This is launched in Albania by NATO. More than 28,000 troops of the US and its allies are participating. More than 26 countries are to conduct simultaneous operations in more than thirty training areas from Black sea, Balkan regions to Baltics and Africa. NATO • NATO is North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. It is an intergovernmental military alliance between thirty North American and European countries. • In 1947, France and UK signed the “Treaty of Dunkirk” (This was the inception of NATO). It was a military alliance between the countries. • It was signed in the event of possible attack by Germany or Soviet Union in the post-World War II conditions. The US, Canada, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Portugal and Iceland joined the treaty in 1949. • The first NATO military exercise was held in 1952. • Soviet Union signed the Warsaw pact to counter NATO. Warsaw Pact • The Warsaw Pact was signed after the integration of West Germany into the NATO. It was signed in 1955. It was signed in Warsaw, Poland. • It was signed between the Soviet Union and the seven other countries in the central and eastern Europe. • There were no military dealings between them like that of NATO. However, conflicts were fought on ideological basis and also in proxy wars. • The largest military engagement of Warsaw pact was the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. Albania and Romania did not participate in the invasion.
