TAGENARINE CHANDERPAUL (SHIVNARINE CHANDERPAUL) Father and sons generally don't play com- petitive cricket together, but that is an exception for Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the son of legendary West Indies batsman, Shivnarine Chanderpaul. The duo shared the 22-yard strip together and even posted half- centuries in the same first-class tie. 21-year- old has represented the West Indies in the Under-19 world cup and is a serious pros- pect. • Is Australian Cricket Racist?
Is Australian cricket racist? What they said… ‘There wasn’t a match I wasn’t racially abused in when I went out to bat’ John McGuire, an Indigenous player who is second in the all-time run-scoring list for the first-grade competition in Western Australia ‘We have to be vigilant against any comments, against any actions, even though it’s conducted by only a very small minority of people’ New South Wales premier Gladys Berejiklian warning cricket fans against making racially abusive comments The issue at a glance On January 9. 2021, on day three of the India vs Australia test match being played on the Sydney Cricket Ground, India captain Ajinkya Rahane and other senior players spoke to the umpires at the end of play. It was subsequently revealed that they were alleging racist abuse from some sections of the crowd. On January 10, play was stopped for eight minutes following claims of more alleged abuse. At least six fans were removed from their seats for allegedly making racist comments after Mohammed Siraj ran in from the fine-leg boundary, alerting teammates before umpires passed on the message to security and police. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/jan/10/india-report-alleged-racist-abuse-from-scg- crowd-during-third-test A subsequent enquiry confirmed that racial abuse had occurred; however, the six spectators who had been escorted from the stadium were not the perpetrators. https://www.skysports.com/cricket/news/12123/12200065/cricket-australia-confirms-india- players-were-racially-abused-in-sydney-six-fans-cleared The incident has provoked significant discussion regarding the extent of racism in Australian cricket.

  • England Seeking Hat-Trick of Ashes Wins for First Time in Over 30 Years Submitted By: Moneta Communications Tuesday, 9 July 2013
England Seeking Hat-Trick Of Ashes Wins For First Time In Over 30 Years Submitted by: Moneta Communications Tuesday, 9 July 2013 Alastair Cook will lead out his England side on Wednesday morning with the weight of the nation on his shoulders as it is the turn of the cricket team to continue a marvellous summer of British sport. England will be bidding to retain the coveted Ashes crown for a third straight series, making it a hat-trick of victories over their old foes for the first time since 1981. Australia have been all-but written off by the media and cricket aficionados and it looks like England's urn to lose! For over a decade, the English cricketing public would head into a clash with their Antipodean rivals with trepidation and could almost sense achievement if they managed to gain a solitary win from the five-match series but along with the Australian demise in recent years, the English setup has grown in stature and become one of the most revered teams in test cricket. Andrew Strauss and Andy Flower galvanised the English side and captain Cook has duly continued the positive mindsets of the players and his ability at the top of the order twinned with the talent of the likes of Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott and James Anderson has seen them create a magnificent spine to the test outfit. Whilst English cricket has blossomed since that epic Ashes win in 2005, the ‘baggy greens’ have become a mere shadow of their dominant past and the setup went into disarray as Mickey Arthur was handed his marching orders from the coaching staff only a couple of weeks before the start of the first test at Trent Bridge.

  • Melbourne Vs Richmond
VICTORIA V DECEMBER 6-9, 2015 SOUTH AUSTRALIA FACT SHEET SHEFFIELD SHIELD LIBRARY Between the teams – Victoria v South Australia The rivalry between the teams dates back to November 1874 when 18 of South Australia took on 11 of Victoria at the Adelaide Oval, the visitors winning a low-scoring contest by 14 runs. The inaugural first-class match between Victoria and SA took place at the East Melbourne Cricket Ground in November 1880 when the home side won by seven wickets. Prior to the introduction of the Sheffield Shield competition in 1892/93, the colonies had met 13 times in 11-a-side contests, Victoria winning seven matches and SA six. The first Shield game between the teams was played at the MCG from December 31, 1892 to January 4, 1893, Victoria winning by six wickets. Victoria also won the return match at Adelaide to go through the inaugural Shield season undefeated and thus become the first winners of the competition. South Australia gained their revenge next season, however, winning both its matches against Victoria to enable it to annex the Shield for the first time. Curiously, the other original Shield team, New South Wales, which came to dominate the competition for many years, did not win it for the first time until 1895/96. Records between the states Of the 227 Sheffield Shield/Pura Cup contests between the teams to date, Victoria has won 116 games to South Australia’s 53, with the remaining 58 drawn. Victoria’s superiority is even more marked at the MCG, where the home side has won 62 of the 103 matches played and SA only 15.

  • Cricket's Ball-Tampering Scandal
Latham & Watkins Financial Regulatory Practice 20 April 2018 | Number 2307 Cricket’s Ball-Tampering Scandal: 10 Lessons for Financial Services A recent sports scandal provides helpful guidance for current efforts to improve conduct and culture in the financial services industry. Introduction The Australian cricket team is coached by a popular ex-player, Darren Lehmann. He has brought a no- nonsense approach to running the team focused on his “been there, done that, worn the t-shirt” attitude. The captain of the Australian cricket team is a sporting superstar, Steve Smith. He is well on the way to establishing himself as the second best batsman ever to have played the game. The vice-captain is a combative cricketing star, David Warner. Warner has earned a level of notoriety for previously participating in off-field brawls, and for being unpopular with opponents. Indeed, the approach of the Australian team has recently been so aggressive towards its opponents that reports have suggested some Australian ex-players and fans have begun to be alienated by the “win at all costs” approach, despite the team’s success on the field. The team itself is in some transition, and a number of new players are in the side for the first time, trying to establish themselves. One of these new players, Cameron Bancroft, was recently caught using a piece of sandpaper to alter the condition of the cricket ball during a test match against South Africa. This action is a clear breach of both the rules and the ethics of the game, and was apparently planned by Warner with the knowledge of Smith, but carried out by Bancroft.

  • Has the Response to Australian Test Cricketers' Ball- Tampering Been an Over-Reaction?
Has the response to Australian test cricketers' ball- tampering been an over-reaction? What they said... 'Our cricketers are role models and cricket is synonymous with fair play. How can our team be engaged in cheating like this? It beggars belief' Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull 'The jump to hysteria is something that has elevated the offence beyond what they actually did...' Former Australian test cricket fast bowler, Shane Warne The issue at a glance On Saturday, March 24, 2018, Australian opener, Cameron Bancroft, was caught by South African cameramen tampering with the ball during the third day of the third test between South Africa and Australia. Later that day, team captain, Steven Smith, and Bancroft gave interviews stating that attempts had been made to alter the ball using tape. On March 25, the Australian prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, condemned the Australian cricketers' actions. March 26: Cricket Australia (CA) officials travelled to South Africa to investigate. March 27: Smith, Bancroft and vice-captain, David Warner, were sent home from the tour. CA stated they were the only individuals who knew of the plan to alter the condition of the ball. March 28: CA handed Smith and Warner one-year bans from international and domestic cricket. Bancroft was suspended for nine months, while Warner will not be considered for any leadership roles in future. James Sutherland, CEO of CA, stated that the team coach, Darren Lehmann, knew nothing of the plan. It was confirmed Bancroft used sandpaper and not tape, as they had initially claimed, on the ball. March 29: Lehmann confirmed he will resign from his post after the fourth Test.

Fails to hit the middle of the batBy Vineet VishnuI ordered this book as I admire Allan Border for his grit courage on the cricket field. He was not as gifted as his contemporaries, but he made it up with his single minded determination. Unfortunately, that's the problem with his autobiography - it lacks flair imagination. He glosses over the juicy bits like the Packer World Series big personalities like Lillee Marsh, or the marauding West Indians. It's just a simple, plaintive tale about how he sees it. Disappointing.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. without unnecessarily venturing too much into the personality battlesBy Barrie K.An interesting insight into a transition period in Australian cricket. It was thoroughly entertaining, without unnecessarily venturing too much into the personality battles, which many cricketers seem to engage in. I also enjoyed the essay by Dene Border, about his life as a cricket son. Allan Border is an elder statesman of Australian cricket.
