WELCOME We are so excited about this season’s offerings. Not only are we continuing our very popular Studio Cabaret Series, Guest Artist Series and Family Performances, but we are also bringing in National Theatre Live, a series of shows recorded in the United Kingdom. This series is replacing the defunct San Francisco Opera series. The Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation continues to bring the highest quality entertainment experiences to the South Bay. Curated especially for you, we bring touring artists and produce special events that allow local participation, all while keeping ticket costs as low as possible, but never sacrificing the quality of the experience. We continue to open the doors one hour prior to each performance to meet your friends or make new ones in an arts friendly environment. In addition, free parking, convenient location and great nearby eateries make joining us at the theatre a GREAT evening (or afternoon) out. Thank you for your support in keeping the arts alive in the South Bay. See you at the Theatre, Chris Christian Wolf Executive Director Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation 2 CONTENTS CALENDAR 4–5 SPECIAL EVENTS 6–7 GUEST ARTISTS 8–15 FAMILY SERIES 16–19 STUDIO CABARET SERIES 20–23 NATIONAL THEATRE LIVE SERIES 24–27 COMMUNITY ARTS 28–31 SPECIAL THANKS 32–33 TICKET INFORMATION 34 TOCA PROUDLY SERVES 3 CALENDAR 2017-2018 AUGUST NOVEMBER Torrance Theatre Company’s Casey Abrams 5 Sister Act 4 Saturday, 8:00pm Saturday, 8:00pm National Theatre Live’s Sister Act 5 No Man’s Land 6 Sunday, 2:00pm Sunday, 2:00pm Sister Act Italian Undercover 12 Saturday, 8:00pm 10 Friday, 8:00pm Sister Act Aileen Quinn and 13 Sunday, 2:00pm 17 The Leapin’ Lizards Friday, 7:30pm Sister Act 18 Friday, 8:00pm Aileen Quinn and 18 The Leapin’ Lizards Sister Act Saturday, 7:30pm 19 Saturday, 8:00pm DECEMBER SEPTEMBER Art & Study of Taiko South Bay’s Got Talent 2 Saturday, 2:00pm & 5:00pm 23 Saturday, 7:00pm Irish Christmas in America 3 Sunday, 2:00pm & 7:00pm OCTOBER Torrance Civic Chorale’s In Perfect Harmony 15 Holiday Light 7 Saturday, 2:00pm & 8:00pm Friday, 8:00pm Doktor Kaboom Torrance Civic Chorale’s 8 Sunday, 2:00pm & 5:00pm 16 Holiday Light Saturday, 8:00pm Streetlight Cadence 13 Friday, 7:30pm Los Cancioneros Master Chorale’s 17 Streetlight Cadence A Latin Holiday 14 Saturday, 7:30pm (in Sandals and Sombreros) Sunday, 7:30pm Los Cancioneros 15 Master Chorale’s Just Desserts: Let’s Dream Sunday, 7:00pm Vaud & The Villains 21 Saturday, 8:00pm 4 JANUARY MARCH The Urban Renewal Project Velvet Caravan 5 Friday, 7:30pm 2 Friday, 7:30pm The Urban Renewal Project Velvet Caravan 6 Saturday, 7:30pm 3 Saturday, 7:30pm Mostly Kosher UnitOne x Miyake Taiko 13 Saturday, 8:00pm 9 Friday, 8:00pm National Theatre Live’s UnitOne x Miyake Taiko 14 Amadeus 10 Saturday, 8:00pm Sunday, 2:00pm Los Cancioneros Master Chorale’s Steve Valentine: 11 Celebrating Music 19 Life & Other Deceptions Sunday, 7:00pm Friday, 8:00pm I Am Woman Steve Valentine: 24 Saturday, 8:00pm 20 Life & Other Deceptions Saturday, 8:00pm National Theatre Live’s 25 Peter Pan Backstage with the Beatles Sunday, 2:00pm 27 Saturday, 8:00pm APRIL FEBRUARY Denise Donatelli Joel Gaines & Friends 6 Friday, 7:30pm 2 Friday, 7:30pm Denise Donatelli Joel Gaines & Friends 7 Saturday, 7:30pm 3 Saturday, 7:30pm Storytelling Workshop Perla Batalla: House of Cohen 8 Sunday, 1:00pm 10 Saturday, 8:00pm Ray Charles Tribute The Not-Its! 13 Friday, 8:00pm 11 Sunday, 2:00pm Petra & The Wolf Torrance Arts Council’s 14 Saturday, 2:00pm & 5:00pm 17 Lady Patriot Saturday, 7:30pm Pacific Coast International 15 Short Film Fest Dancing with the Sunday, 7:00pm 24 South Bay Stars Saturday, 7:00pm Torrance Civic Chorale’s 21 Mirrors of Culture National Theatre Live’s Saturday, 8:00pm 25 Twelfth Night Sunday, 2:00pm True Tales from the South Bay 22 Sunday, 7:00pm MAY BOOM 5 Saturday, 8:00pm JUNE Los Cancioneros Master Chorale’s 10 Songs Across the Footlights Sunday, 7:00pm 5 SPECIAL EVENTS SOUTH BAY’S GOT TALENT 4 Saturday, September 23, 2017 7:00pm See the best talent that the South Bay has to offer in our fourth annual regional talent competition. Most people are aware that Dean Martin, Tony Bennett and Connie Francis are Italian—and they might even know that their given names have been changed considerably. But not everyone knows that the same can be said for countless others, including Frankie Avalon, Bobby Darin, and Bobby Rydell! jennaesposito.com ART & STUDY OF TAIKO Saturday, December 2, 2017 2:00pm & 5:00pm Staff and students of Asano Taiko US and Los Angeles Taiko Institute (LATI) present contemporary and traditionally inspired taiko repertoire in their end-of-year recital.
