taly has welcomed the recent opening of the Interna- tional Labour Organisation (ILO) offi ce in Doha, which, Iaccording to ambassador Pasquale Salzano, falls within the “ambitious reform path” instituted by Qatar to im- prove local recruitment and employment conditions. Speaking at Italy’s celebration of its National Day held recently in Doha, Salzano said that the opening of the ILO project offi ce demonstrates Qatar’s “strong commitment to co-operate closely with foreign partners in line with in- ternational standards”. “The co-operation between Italy and Qatar does not oc- cur only on a bilateral level, but also persists in multilateral fora and international organisations, especially within the United Nations (UN) system,” Salzano said in his speech. Similarly, the Italian ambassador to Qatar said that Italy “is pleased” to share with Qatar this year’s chairmanship of the Group of Friends on the Responsibility to Protect at the UN. He said that this advocates “stronger protection of pop- ulations at risk of genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity”. On the “great potential” of co-operation between Qatar and Italy, Salzano said the political dialogue between the two countries “is currently stronger than ever”. He said that in less than eight months, Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni and four Italian ministers have visited Qatar. In the same period, Italy’s ministers of foreign aff airs and defence have made a second visit to Qatar, he said. “Our bilateral trade reached €2.3bn in 2017, increasing 9% from the previous year,” Salzano said. “The presence of Italian companies in Qatar is stronger, spread in all the key sectors. Also, thanks to the excellent work of the Italian Trade Agency and Italian Chamber of Commerce, Qatar’s investments in Italy have also signifi - cantly increased,” he added. “Figures are important, however, the most eff ective criterion to measure the depth of our friendship is that of demonstrating the ability to stand together in success and in challenging times, as good friends do,” Salzano empha- sised. The ambassador stressed that Qatar has recently over- come “many hurdles”, saying its people have “proudly demonstrated” how the country is united. “Qatar’s wise leadership has shown a remarkable ability to eff ectively manage regional crisis, both on an economic and a social level,” he said. Salzano noted that Qatar’s policies of trade diversifi - cation and development of domestic manufacturing are opening up to more bilateral co-operation and opportuni- ties in all fi elds. “Infrastructure is developing at fast-pace and many Italian companies are involved in carrying out project of the stadiums, Metro lines and hospitals that will cater to the multitude of visitors expected for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. “We are particularly proud to remark that Anas, the leading Italian company in road development, has been se- lected by Ashghal as quality controller for all road projects in Qatar, and that an Italian consortium was chosen to de- sign the new food storage facilities at Hamad Port,” Salzano said. He added: “Defence is more and more a key area where institutional dialogue and co-operation takes place. “On the occasion of the signifi cant Italian participation at Dimdex 2018, the Italian defence minister and chief of staff of the Italian navy visited Doha. “Shortly after, the Italian and Qatari chiefs of staff of armed forces met to discuss ongoing and new programmes for the training of hundreds of Qatari navy and air force of- fi cers in Italy. “We are delighted to share our expertise and experience in this fi eld.” Gulf Times 12 Sunday, May 13, 2018 QATAR WISE forum in Accra stresses

According to reports, no one knows when or how the outbreak started, but the WHO suspects that since April 4, a total of 34 people are thought to be infected with Ebola (though only two of them are confi rmed so far), including Trump’s Iran decision ends as many as 18 deaths. Three of the deaths reportedly involved healthcare workers. Health offi cials suspect that the high case fatality rate means there may be more Ebola cases already out there in DRC and some places in the central sub-Saharan era in US-Europe ties Africa, and that this outbreak could have been simmering, undetected for some time. There is no single treatment for the Ebola virus. Rather, patients’ symptoms are addressed. Severely ill patients require intensive supportive care, with intravenous fl uids to re-hydrate them. Controlling an outbreak of the virus, which has the potential of becoming a pandemic, depends entirely on surveillance and the isolation of cases. Therefore, vigilance has to be raised at airports, seaports and at all entry points for screening passengers from the aff ected region. With WHO confi rming the Ebola outbreak, countries around the world need to take immediate precautions to prevent any spread of the highly fatal disease.
