ROGERS & NIENHAUS Two Exceptional Musicians with A ROGERS & NIENHAUS Two exceptional musicians with a lifelong career of performance on the world stage, ROGERS & NIENHAUS are just that.....world-class!!! With pristine harmonies and searing instrumentation, they are truly a 'not to be missed' act!! Whether performing in large venues or intimate club settings, ROGERS & NIENHAUS deliver a powerful show, that leaves their audiences wondering how 2 performers can deliver such a full, high quality sound. Terry Jones Rogers and Scott Nienhaus began their long association in 1993 after both relocated to Nashville,TN at the urging of their mutual friend Michael 'Supe' Granda of The Ozark Mountain Daredevils. Nienhaus and Granda had become friends in their home state of Missouri, when Scott's group 'Acousticity' toured with 'The Daredevils' as their opening act, soon leading to 'Acousticity' working with Nicolette Larson as her band. Rogers and Granda became friends when they worked together in the classic group "THE BYRDS" with original drummer Michael Clarke. Terry, a Macon,GA native, was invited to join the newly reformed group by Clarke in 1988 after becoming friends in Hilton Head,SC, and was fronting the band when Supe came on board. Soon after Granda's inspired introduction that November, Rogers invited Nienhaus to join his newly formed group 'THE BYRDS CELEBRATION' after Michael Clarke's untimely death in December of 1993. In early 1994, Rogers & Nienhaus began working with 'THE BYRDS CELEBRATION' along with Byrds' alumni Skip Battin and Gene Parsons, as they embarked on their first tour of Europe, including Germany, Switzerland, France and The Netherlands. In 1995, ROGERS & NIENHAUS released 'The Rogers/Nienhaus Band with Skip Battin' "Empty Room", recorded at Music Masters Studio in St. Louis,MO, leading to many European tours as an acoustic duo in support of this project. Now living in the Greater St. Louis Metro area, ROGERS & NIENHAUS have become local favorites, with their fiery performance and pristine harmonies, as well as touring nationally and internationally. Since relocating to the Midwest, Terry and Scott have continued to record, with old friends Supe Granda and Tim Politte with the revival of The Real Macaws, a group they had in Nashville,TN, and releasing "Standing Alone" THE REAL MACAWS in 2011, as well as with Michael Curtis and Tim Politte and their group YOUNGER THAN YESTERDAY~a Tribute to The Byrds, releasing a new self-titled CD on May 31, 2013 at The Wildey Theater!! • GRAM PARSONS LYRICS Compiled by Robin Dunn & Chrissie Van Varik
GRAM PARSONS LYRICS Compiled by Robin Dunn & Chrissie van Varik. As performed in principal recordings (or demos) by or with Gram Parsons or, in the case of Gram Parsons compositions, performed by others. Gram often varied, adapted or altered the lyrics to non-Parsons compositions; those listed here are as sung by him. Gram’s birth name was Ingram Cecil Connor III. However, ‘Gram Parsons’ is used throughout this document. Following his father’s suicide, Gram’s mother Avis subsequently married Robert Parsons, whose surname Gram adopted. Born Ingram Cecil Connor III, 5th November 1946 - 19th September 1973 and credited as being the founder of modern ‘country-rock’, Gram Parsons was hugely influenced by The Everly Brothers and included a number of their songs in his live and recorded repertoire – most famously ‘Love Hurts’, a truly wonderful rendition with a young Emmylou Harris. He also recorded ‘Brand New Heartache’ and ‘Sleepless Nights’ – also the title of a posthumous album – and very early, in 1967, ‘When Will I Be Loved’. Many would attest that ‘country-rock’ kicked off with The Everly Brothers, and in the late sixties the album Roots was a key and acknowledged influence, but that is not to deny Parsons huge role in developing it. Gram Parsons is best known for his work within the country genre but he also mixed blues, folk, and rock to create what he called “Cosmic American Music”. While he was alive, Gram Parsons was a cult figure that never sold many records but influenced countless fellow musicians, from the Rolling Stones to The Byrds.

  • New Riders of the Purple Sage – Nrpsmusic.Com in the Summer Of
New Riders of the Purple Sage – nrpsmusic.com In the summer of 1969, John Dawson was looking to showcase his songs while Jerry Garcia was looking to practice his brand new pedal steel guitar. The two played in coffeehouses and small clubs initially, and the music they made became the nucleus for a band—the New Riders of the Purple Sage. That same year, David Nelson, expert in both country and rock guitar, joined the group on electric lead guitar. Filling out the rhythm section in those early days were Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and engineer Bob Matthews on bass, who was later replaced by Phil Lesh. In 1970, Dave Torbert took over on bass and the New Riders played every chance they got. Soon enough, smoky clubs all over the San Francisco bay area were filling up with whooping, foot-stomping crowds as their music got tighter and more dynamic. They began to tour extensively with the Dead, and in December of 1970, Spencer Dryden, who had previously showed his impeccable drumming style with the Jefferson Airplane, had stepped in on drums. One of the many gigs with the Dead included the Trans-Canadian Festival Express with Janis Joplin, The Band, and other American and Canadian artists like Ian and Sylvia, who had with them a brilliant, innovative pedal steel player named Buddy Cage. When Garcia's busy schedule made it increasingly difficult for him to play with the New Riders, the talented Cage was the perfect choice to fill the pedal steel spot. He moved from Toronto where he had been working in Anne Murray's band, to California in the fall of 1971 to join the New Riders.
